Sure Trout's response isn't music to our ears but what is he really supposed to say when asked that question?
Could he say, "Ya, I saw how Free Agency played out this year and I want to negotiate an extension now" sure he could, but why would he?
Instead he gave the standard ball player answer, "I don't want to talk about it I just want to play ball".
I'm sure he has been advised to not talk about negotiations with the media by either his agent and/or the FO.
Trout has never been great at interviews and he is obviously uncomfortable talking about the subject I think this is just an example of Trout not being able to dodge the question as best he could. 
History has shown that Trout does negotiate in the Spring, so maybe he really does want to leave. I still think it is much more likely that he is just deflecting the extension questions as best he can and he will sign this spring. 

Sounds like he's telling the media to shut their yaps and let him play.

The guys on the MLB Network were saying that the Phillies AAV on Harper is low enough that they could still get Trout after the 2020 season. 
Man, if this doesn't get done soon you would think that it's going to have the opposite effect that Trout is trying to avoid and become a HUGE distraction in the clubhouse, during interviews and on social media.

In before one of the usual suspects uses this as "proof" that Trout isn't going to re-sign with the Angels.

Only 8 years?  Anything less than a lifetime contract is a failure.

Agreed, it's a fair question.  It's kind of like the situation the Cardinals were in with Pujols.  Do you break the bank for a home grown, once in a generation talent and limit payroll options for 10 years?  I'd be much more inclined to do it for Trout though as Pujols was 32 when he came to the Halos and Trout is only 27 now.  Much less of a chance of being stung by the back end of that deal!  To me, he's the one guy in MLB you do it for.

I hope he re-signs ASAP. It will kill this stupid Trout-Phillies story.

If I had 40 mill a year to play with, I would almost look past the losing. Besides, Eppler is committed to success and is doing what he can to build a winner. I trust him.

I don't care if this is just a rumor and could be complete BS, I'm just going to enjoy the fantasy of locking up Trout until I have long since passed away
 

As I've said before, I think the Angels have had an pretty solid offseason and have put themselves in contention I believe with the A's and Astros for tops in the division. 
If they sign Trout to an extension in addition to the moves they've made...

I'm going to be the contrarian.  I love this trade for the Angels.  Eppler is looking past outdated metrics like ERA and focusing on luck-independent measurements like FIP.
It's forward-looking and, frankly, ballsy.  This isn't a GM making timid moves with an eye toward not getting fired.  He has an approach and he's trusting it.  This is the move of a confident GM.
And it means we're DEFINITELY in the market for a top-tier righty closer.  This move makes it more likely that we'll aggressively pursue Kimbrel or Familia.

i agree, build around him or sell high, anything else is foolish.  i think well see which direction the team is going here soon enough
