I'm sure I am missing some things, but I tried to be fair and balanced on both sides.  I don't hate him, don't love him.  I defend him against some blowhards.  I think if he came back it would make me laugh because he somehow bothers people.  But I have to admit I am ready for a change for no other reason than change itself.  I don't want to see a boring manager that never runs or never hit and runs.  I will take the occasional ugly out for a little excitement.

I would send them Carlos Perez, C.J. Cron & Sum Yung Gui to make that happen. 

Well, I feel even more confident now that my prediction of something happening today will come true.  Server goes down at 10:30 for maintenance, then the Angels sign Darvish, then when the server is back up, we crash it.  

Not only is he the best player in baseball, but he also gives the Angels something they have never had, a franchise legend.  This team needs to finally have a player that came up in the system, had a HOF career and stayed with the team their entire career.  This organization deserves to have that and Trout is it.

12 years would take him through his age 37 season, which is fine by me. At $33 mil a year, which would be a steal for him the way he currently performs, you'd be looking at 12/$396. That would be a good deal. Add another year and $2 mil per season, and you'd be looking at 13/$455. 
I'd be comfortable with anything in that range.

Thaiss' lateral movement is "plus" for a 1B, as are his actions. He's shown an advanced ability to dig balls out of the dirt. Because he's only 6'0'' (if that), he won't be as large of a target while on the bag, but since Yunel isn't at 3B anymore, this shouldn't be too big of a deal. He has a good arm for a 1B but a fringe average arm overall, better than Cron's, as good as Valbuena's. Thaiss' clean fielding of ground balls is still a work in progress, better than Cron's was by far at this stage in their careers.
His big thing is experience and developing an instinct. Working with Wally Joyner probably helped a lot.
But the bat made big strides in the first year and that's going to be Thaiss' calling card. I picture him being like Nick Markakis in his prime in Baltimore.
Thaiss is a good hitter. 
I don't really picture Thaiss moving to 2B, 3B or even spending much time in the corner OF at all. He'd do it if they asked, but I doubt they will.
The Angels drafted him because he was practically a lock to be a good major league hitter. I mean if you could draft a kid in the middle of the round and have a guarantee that he'll be at least a solid average major league hitter, it's not a bad pick.
Thaiss will be better than solid average and so as time goes by, I see the genius more and more in this pick. Offense to surround Trout with. As I understand, they already talk occasionally via text. I imagine Thaiss being from New Jersey probably visits occasionally in the offseason as well.

Honestly I don't know. He played catcher previously until the Angels moved him over to 1B. I suspect his positional versatility isn't as good as Carpenter's I was speaking more to the bat as he seems to profile similarly to Carpenter except in a milder form. More low-end regular to me than what Carpenter achieved but Thaiss is still young and talented so he could easily surprise us all with a good 2018 (which I hope, of course, happens).

The 2014 team overachieved to be sure, but Richards knee exploded and the team ended up resting for most of September after they clinched only to run into a red hot buzzsaw of a Royals team that was making every clutch play possible while the Angels looked rusty by comparison. That combined with throwing a floundering C.J. Wilson out there instead of rolling with the Rasmus led bullpen games that they had success with in the final month made for a tough end to a great season. I don't see the 2018 having as great a regular season, but on paper they are certainly better positioned to do some damage if they sneak into the postseason.

I feel like if you make a run at Darvish, you may as well make sell some minor league assets for another front line starter like Stroman or Archer.  Preferably the former.

I think even at those numbers he would be considered an ace in a lot of circles, especially if he hes averaging 11 K's per 9.

Baseball was a lot of fun when dudes were jacked up on steroids. I don't know if Albert ever took HGH, but I certainly wish he was on it now!

I strongly endorse Albert Pujols use of PEDs, HGH, testosterone treatments, horse steroids, etc, all of the above.
