After defending Maddon yesterday (except I agreed on his wacky defensive alignments) and calling out Perry, I suppose I am in the minority.

I don't think Maddon is a liar, but his ego is out there. A lot of manager/coaches tend to be, but his basically trying to go against baseball because he thinks it should be played one way was pure hubris.
I think the game is worse off than it was, but I'm not trying to be it's gatekeeper, Im a fan who wants to see their team win and realizes you have to play within the landscape set before you.  Again, it's like taking a knife to a gunfight and arguing that it's better if the other guy had a knife despite you having had the option of using a gun.

You're showing your bias here as someone who wants to think Maddon's full of shit and Minasian is telling the truth. I am showing mine saying that Minasian is full of shit and I believe Maddon.

Defensive alignment goes hand in hand with also pitching that hits their spots consistently to get the desired outcome.... Of a hitter hitting into the shift... IF your pitchers miss their spot, elevate, or don't execute then you are left high and dry.
Which if your pitching analytics don't jive with what your trying to do defensively. Now your screwed again. IF they say this count slider down and away to a right handed hitter and your playing them to pull and they shoot it to right field because you got too much plate or it's elevated. It breaks your shift.

They won this game.

10 months on the job. There wasn't a single month where I felt this team played above it's talent level. A .550 winning pct. gets you to 89 wins. That's either going to get you into the post season, or keep you in it until the final weekend. The Angels didn't even have a single month where they played .550 baseball under Nevin. However, they had 3 of the worst months in franchise history under him.

I'm not a fan of having 3-4-5 Lefties/Righties in a rotation with a similar repertoire and release points in a row. It is easier to Scout prior to the series. At that point your only focused on tendencies in situations. Even a change in pitch usage.
Anderson should had been a great guy coming in 2nd behind Ohtani Velo and between a Giolitto type. (We know how it broke up). Then to a Detmers, a Canning, finishing with a Sandavol.
The whole Pitching Philosophy was a complete breakdown. From building the rotation including pitching matchups (you actually want the bottom 3 going against other teams bottom 3 its a confidence builder) The other issue is not all teams work a 6man rotation. So, your #6 guy at times will come up against another teams #1 that individual must be mentally strong (be able to trust their stuff, confident, and not let the blunders get to them other than the moment "blow it off and get back on the bump"). strike zone dominance, and getting outs is always Priority #1a and 1b.
I still haven't gotten into health... I believe Silseth has a TOR mentality maybe a 1b or 2 with more experience. He attacks and battles.

Maddon?  His first year came under Eppler.

I think the ideal candidate is someone who can get through to guys and take the front office (the analytics dept) message and turn it into results -- we saw first hand how Doug White failed there.
I can see guys like Nevin and the sort becoming the sort of bench coaches/coaches who make a life out of being that guy that can say and do and act in a way that might fire guys up or lose his shit while the guy with the spreadsheets sits back and plots the gameplan.
Honestly, I think it's dull, it's a style of game I'm not fond of but it's how the game is played and failing to do so might be akin to showing up to a gunfight with a knife.
 

Do you really believe this stuff?  You're throwing these things out there devoid of context.   Did the bullpen tire due to excessive usage early on?  Was the lineup they rolled out there when it cratered the same 9 people they were putting on the field when it was performing better?  There are a lot of variables at play that you are completely glossing over while at the same time dismissing how differently the defense played post Maddon.
These are weak arguments that don't really require a lot of effort to dismiss as noise.

I mean, I think that's basically what I am saying. 
When I hear that they are teaching their pitchers to go for strikeouts, I think this is a great example of nerds who don't understand baseball. Obviously the stats will say that the strikeout is the best outcome for the pitcher, but a pitching coach should also be able to tell you that the goal is to prevent runs and get outs not just strike guys out. 
There is obviously a miscommunication there somewhere or just sheer incompetence.
