Was actually thinking about this last night. That his numbers under WAR suffer a bit because he's a DH. Then I wondered (no idea) what his offensive WAR would be if he was viewed as a pitcher instead.

He doesn't have to be an 8th inning guy to be awarded with a SD.
Pitchers get a SD (shutdown) anytime they help their team chances to win by 6% so basically, 0.06 WPA.  Conversely they are awarded a MD (meltdown) if their performance hurt his teams chances to win by 6% or -0.06 WPA.  So, the main reason his SD total is where it is is because his WPA is in the negatives, also why he's just outside of the top 20 for MDs (Meldowns).
Loup has been bad, today was another perfect example.   Signing him was a bad move because the dude is essentially a specialist at a time when the 3 batter rule is in place.  None of this is to say he can't be better, because he's obviously done it before but it was a bad move at hello.

Agreed, but I think SD% is heavily affected by poor usage. He's not an 8th inning guy, he's a guy that should be coming in to face lefties and left handed centered lineups.
Bringing him in with a runner on base is also dumb, he's just not good at holding runners.

F*CK Right off. I've been posting here for almost 20 years and yes I use obscenities cuz you pissed me off. You're a troll, call out legit long time posters and then give me crap about obscenities? My god man you have quickly managed to annoy every single long term poster with your know it all attitude, which is less reliant on facts than on opinions, but basically I'm getting you banned.

His FIP isn't as bad as his ERA. He was so good last year, mainly because people just weren't scoring when they got on base. His WHIP was lower, at 0.935 versus this seasons 1.299...
He allowed 9 runs (6 ER) last year on 37 hits and 16 walks in 56.1 IP in 65 Games.
He has allowed 36 runs (23 ER) this year on 48 hits and 20 walks in 52 IP over 58 games. Is his poor 0-5 record due to the Angels terrible defense? 13 Unearned runs? Wow.

Loup and Tepera actually have been mediocre, not horrific. They need to be moved down in the pecking order, and hopefully they regain their swagger next year. Both these guys were good in 2021, so it could be coaching, it could be that since the offensive production has been so low, they have been pitching without any margin for error and have been far from perfect.
I expect both back next year, but not as the designated late inning guys. Quijada, Ortega, Barria and Herget are all likely back and will be used in similar roles.
That's 6 guys in a 8 man pen. They can use Ortega or Quijada as the closer, or they can promote Bachman or hope Rodriguez can take the role.
I think they may sign a pitcher, but maybe just Bradley comes back.

This is likely, as is Bachman. The best case scenario for these guys are that they are healthy, stay healthy and occupy the 5th and 6th spot in the rotation expertly.
But as a closer, either could get some innings and build up his strength again. Bachman obviously can be in the majors all year, and honestly so could C-Rod.

Nevin is doing a horrible job in my opinion, and in my opinion, players are slumping, they’re not being coached well, and not being put in places to succeed. That means that guys hitting .160 who hit .280 last year are doing poorly because of the manager and because of the front office..

But you don’t care if my opinion is good or bad, you’re just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. Again, GFY.

After seeing Moniak perform pretty well, including a 2-run HR just now, I wonder what will be better long term?
Marsh has hit .264/.284/.417 with the Phillies for a .701 OPS, and Syndergaard is 4-1 in 7 starts with a 4.61 ERA for the Phillies.
Moniak is hitting .219/.242/.500 with the Angels for a .742 OPS, and O'Hoppe is .298/.478/.679 with a 1.157 OPS for Rocket City incl 10 HR in 115 PA. Sanchez is hitting .309/.381/.400 for a .781 OPS for Inland Empire.
Moniak did get hurt, but so did Marsh. Both have high ceilings, though I'd imagine Marsh has a higher floor. Both are 24. Marsh being slightly older.
Which team will get the better end of this trade (or group of trades)?

Hubs reacted to SlappyUtilityMIF in OC Register: Former manager Joe Maddon repeats frustration in how Angels’ front office handled analytics
Once again, dating back since Sven walked (or was told he was retiring)... Front office disconnect with the field of play, coaching issues, lack of adjustments by team, or, just head scratchers..
We've had 3 Managers (Ausmus, Maddon, Nevin). All look handtied at times or unsure of the situations within the game. We look at it and the outcome and say why would you do this, or that? However, we also heard rumblings there was a lack of communication within the Ausmus Group and that coaching staff and the Front Office (Not Perry's). We also, saw first hand a lack of production/adjustments made within the coaching staff and players with Maddon's Group (Yes, Perry's).
Now we have seen the motions of Nevin's group (though they all adjusted positions in the dugout when Maddon was termed) though certain aspects have been positive notably the bullpen and starters seem to be going deeper in the game (minus Detmer's start vs Houston & Mayers Start vs Yankees). Overall, either they are being pushed to go longer or are getting ahead in the count more often and getting ahead earlier in the count. Haven't watched the games. I'm just looking at the finality of outings with innings pitched.
On the hitting side OBP has disappeared. (Trout, Ohtani and Ward aside). we don't get on base and we fail consistently in moving runners over? Is this the result of BAD BALLS in PLAY? Launch Angle? Being overly aggressive outside the zone while taking more pitches earlier in the count?
A bad team like the Tigers will skew the #'s and even the Yankees have been flailing lately but Houston is in our Division and we need to beat them consistently or even play them at .500% to have a chance at the playoffs!

Hubs reacted to Warfarin in What's the lineup in 2025?
I don't think a fire sale is needed.  The only long term contracts on this team are Trout and Rendon.  I do hope Ohtani joins them, but otherwise, I think we aren't too far off from becoming a contender.
It is too difficult to project a starting lineup for 2025, but rather, I think perhaps the key part is to look at which spots are either projected to be filled by who we have on the roster or, hopefully, filled by a promising prospect.
Catcher:  "Hopefully" O'Hoppe and probably Stassi
1B:  maybe Walsh, maybe DiChiarra, or if neither, then this likely won't be hard to fill
    2B:  Fletcher, due to contract
    SS:  Neto, hopefully
    3B:  Rendon, due to contract
LF:  ??, I personally doubt Adell's future MLB abilities, so I'll say this spot is open and can be filled via free agency
    CF:  Trout
RF:  maybe Ward, if he can re-discover his earlier form from this year.  If not, then this too will probably be filled via free agency
    DH:  Ohtani, hopefully
So it appears OF has some work to do, but we should probably have most of the rest of the spots filled by combination of guys on the roster and highly rated prospects

Right and it makes sense. A lot of these guys are closer to the majors now than the guys last year in competition, and only Canning and Rodriguez are injury concerns.
I'd rank it this way right now.
    1. Roriguez (if healthy)
    2. Silseth
    3. Canning
    4. Diaz
    5. Bachman
    6. Bush

    8. Rosenberg

With Suarez, who has been excellent since I went to the Royals game and saw him pitch live for the first time, Sandoval, Detmers, and Ohtani, the team has a solid 1-4 in the rotation.
Who takes the 5-6 spots is gonna be the key to pitching success in 2023.
I think they try to add or bring back one veteran starter in that group and then let a bunch of guys battle it out for spot #6.

    Angelswin Oracles,
I ask you, what is the lineup and rotation not next year, but on opening day in three years. I think they will do their best to win next season and keep Ohtani for a few more years. But you may disagree. I feel like for the first time in over a decade, they have a solid core of young position players ready to contribute starting in 2023, and 2024 a lot of new faces will be up.
    2B Fletcher
    CF Trout
    DH Ohtani
    RF Judge
    3B Rendon
    C O'Hoppe
    1B DiChara
    LF Ward
    SS Neto
    SP1 Ohtani
    SP2 Detmers
    SP3 Sandoval

I'm sort of joking with the Judge pick, but the way Arte operates, I'm not totally joking. Even though he's selling the team, he may go for it one more time.
It's far more likely Adell or Calabrese, Moniak or Adams in CF and Trout in Left, Ward in RF.

Hubs got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in OC Register: Hoornstra: MLB’s unbalanced schedule favors fans, but not the planet
I am a liberal and an environmentalist but this article is just plain stupid. The AL West is the largest geographical division in baseball, and intradivision games are in different time zones. Maybe from a standpoint of the New York Yankees or Detroit Tigers, whose longest division trips are a 3 hour jaunt to Florida and a 2 hour flight to Kansas City?
But when Seattle and Houston are in your division, you can fly three hours to Seattle and then 4.5 hours to Houston on the same trip. The solution is to do more geographical trips.
The solution is to realign the divisions, yes, by expanding to 32, and cutting divisions to 4 teams.
The Rangers and Astros should be split into two leagues, but they should be in divisions with the Braves, the new Nashville team, the Royals, The Rockies, etc.
NL WEST - Dodgers, Giants, Padres, New Portland Team
AL WEST - Angels, A's, Diamondbacks, Mariners
NL NORTH - Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Cardinals
AL NORTH - White Sox, Twins, Tigers, Indians
NL SOUTH - Braves, Astros, Marlins, Rockies
AL SOUTH - Nashville Team, Rangers, Rays, Royals
NL EAST - Mets, Phillies, Nationals, Pirates
AL EAST - Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Blue Jays

I agree with you in the belief that there has been bad coaching, a lack of adjustments, and bad preparation. My point is simply that the horrible roster construction by Minasian is the biggest reason for the Angels struggles in 2022. That being said, it doesn't excuse the issues with the manager/coaching staff.
