you would rather have reyes over kinsler because of 5 million dollars? i'm definitely not on that train.
i'd like the angels to be good next year and reyes doesn't move the needle at all.

Silver lining...while Josh Paul isour bench coach, it's a solid bet Martin Maldonado will never forget to tag or throw down to first base on balls that are anywhere near the dirt.
Sort of like if you hire Kendrys Morales to be your hitting coach, it's a guarantee none of your players will jump on home plate to celebrate a walk off HR.
I know it sounds like they're cursed, but sometimes these are lessons you learn that set up a brighter future.

or Josh Paul should have thrown the first -- tagging the runner right in front of him made more sense at the time.
the one thing you don't do is roll the baseball back towards the mound which is what he did.

geez -- just saw this -- for real?
AnaheimBob has it absolutely right -- at the end of the day it really doesn't matter if it was a 'clean' catch or not or even if the ump (mistakenly? absent-mindedly? forgetfully?) gave the OUT sign signal -- the Catcher in that situation should NEVER PLAY UMPIRE -- tag the runner -- EVERY TIME. If the catcher does that, NO ISSUE.
To this day -- while I too give Perzynski (spelled way wrong) a bad time when he comes to the plate vs. Halos (his MLB playing days are done now, though), I don't blame him for the 2005 fiasco -- in fact, I think he did what a smart opponent (and catcher) would do in that situation and try to create confusion (which he did) where there really was none. Heads up play on his part as far as I am concerned.
Bone-head play by our new 'bench coach'  GEEZ -- that guy?   OK -- let's wait until next year -- that would be 2019.

I think it was a clean catch too, but he should've thrown down to first anyway. Replay would've caught it. It's not the worst call I've ever seen, but it's close. The worst is the double tag against the Yankees in 09, but this one cost more. 2-0 coming back home? Lost the series 4-1.

According to some here, Arte shut down the OMB because of people badmouthing his decisions, and then made up a story about a suicide to hide his real intentions.

Okay, number one, an empty bag of rocks is simply an empty bag. Two, there is no head coach in baseball. But other than that a well thought out post.

    1. I successfully navigated the free agent waters by showing up late to the winter meeting and losing out on Carl Crawford.
    2. Managed to avoid adding unnecessary payroll space by not pursuing aging players, even though they were living in the OC and were knocking on my door asking to be signed like Adrian Beltre.
    3. I evaded saying anything dumb to the media by literally running away from them.
    4. I called for change by complaining that the winter meetings were pointless because everything is done over the phone.
    5. I set the standard on attendance by being the last to show up and the first to leave.
    6. I maintained good relations with my manager by allowing him to GM this team.
    7. I revolutionized the free agent acquisition process by allowing free agents to "fall in my lap".
    8. I made a lasting impact on the future of my ball club (Vernon Wells).
If hired, my first order of business will be lunch, followed by a long period of unavailability and finally, the firing of some guy named Garrett Wilson in my analytics department for being critical of me at MWAH during my tenure with the Angels.

Actually I consider Roenicke and Ebel to be very good 3B coaches.  So moving Ebel to 3B is fine with me.  The bench coach position is critical, especially given that this is the last year of Scioscia's current contract.  If he or the team decides that 2018 is it for him, then the bench coach will have first shot at the manager's position in my opinion.  Maybe that is why this positioning is taking place.  On the other hand maybe there are few who could effectively fill the 3B coaching slot any better than Ebel, and there could be lots of candidates for bench coach.  These discussions are not going to be public in any way, until a decision is fully made, so any speculation here is just that - speculation.

I already admitted that they've made every single right call.  They have signed or haven't signed all the right players.  They could have done no better.  It's just the way things are.  Others teams have better fortunes is all.  Just are luckier.  Arte has done the best job of any owner period.  He has made all the right calls.  Signing Scioscia to that 10 year contract was a genius move.  Not going over the luxury tax has worked perfectly.  Sure, Arte hasn't given the Angels a world series title or even appearance but that's not his fault.  He has shown that he knows the exact managers and scouts and presidents in place in his team.  The Angels farm is bad through absolutely no fault of his own.  The Angels have just been screwed over when it comes to drafting players and signing FA.  I admit I am wrong with every facet and that everything connected to the Angels has been the absolute best it can and will ever be.  Signing Upton will be the bat that takes them to a division title. Hell, a world series appearance has only eluded them because they just haven't had the chance to sign any good players because none wanted to play for them.  Can't blame the Angels for being in the 2nd largest market in Southern California.  Ignore what the team just up the freeway has been doing and the players they have developed.  The Dodgers always had better draft picks and got lucky year after year after year after year.
I know now the Angels and Arte have made all the right choices but haven't won because, well, they just aren't lucky.  The team is perfect just the way it is and has always been that way.  I am sorry for ranting about all the problems they have or rather, I thought they have.  I know how it's not their fault they haven't replaced Glaus or Kendrick and for all the other "problems" with players and staff. I now see that Pujols batting cleanup and his decline after the Angels signed him is meaningless because he is the perfect guy for that spot in the lineup and no players could have been signed after 2013 that could have done a better job. My bad guys.

Okay but again, fans are supposed to believe a guy that hits like Pujols batting cleanup can be world series contenders?  Why have the Angels drafted so poorly?  Why haven't they replaced Glaus?  Why haven't they replaced Kendrick?  Why is 1st base a platoon?  Why don't they have any ace pitchers?  Why no lock down closer?  ETc etc etc etc

You don't want the Angels to be a contender?  I do and Arte says he is doing the best he can so therefore, Pujols batting cleanup is the best a billionaire can do and he has put the absolute best team possible on the field so yes, Pujols batting cleanup should mean the Angels are a World Series contender.  They have been apparently the last 5 years or whatever.  I had no idea.  You learn something new everyday.

That high priced FA is still batting cleanup.  So that means the Angels are a contender with a bad hitter batting cleanup. Put me on ignore all you want.  I am just stating facts.

I actually think it's been done for about 7 years, and that the 2002 team would of won World Series no matter who was thier manager. Darin Erstad was the manager of that team that season. It was a "team" called  and "team" only meeting when they got off to that horrible start in Seattle that year, that then got them playing some good ball. Mike was lucky to be writing the line up. But he has been given way to much control over baseball operations, which I think thier starting to realize was a bad idea; and that 10 year contract? So he can have a even bigger power trip, get complacent ect. He has to go, we need fresh maybe young blood, that let's he's players play, and not meddle in every game. That's the thing, in 2002 when so many guys went through slumps did he bench them? No he let them work there way out of it, that's only way your going to see and learn how to be successful in the show. So Mike you gotta go.
