One of the A list Angels pitchers, took a home town discount, appreciated his fans.

Mark Langston was sure letting Scioscia have it for not intentionally walking Cruz.  He said Nolasco didn't have the stuff to pitch to him.

Scioscia gets the most out of his players.  They never quit.
I would retire, however, before my lifetime average dips below .300 or after my 3,000th hit if I were Albert.  It would be a graceful exit and besides, the Angels can only benefit if he hits a home run, sacrifice fly, or a base hit which would require a pinch runner.
i don't think the Angels can win a championship with him in the lineup.

No excuses.  Personally I'd rather eat at home or tailgate in the parking lot with friends.

A real championship caliber player, part of the Angels first division winner.  R.I.P.  That's the kind of guy you wanted on your team.

I was a big wrestling fan as a kid.  I remember going to the Olympic Auditorium in downtown L.A. to watch a wrestling show.  Mr. Moto, who was always a bad dirty mean wrestler, was on the card that day. As he made his entrance and was walking down the aisle, people started to boo him, but he did something totally unexpected.  As he walked toward the ring, he was cheerfully and happily greeting fans, signing autographs and shaking hands.  Initially I didn't understand what he was doing, but then I realized it was all fake.  Well, I was shattered.  It was comparable to finding out Santa Claus was not real.
That was the day I was no longer a wrestling fan.

I wonder the same thing.  If I were him I'd retire with either the .300 lifetime average or 3000 hits.  I don't think he can get both.  He's got more money than he'll ever need.

Honestly, I think Ted Turner has a short attention span and loses interest in things fairly quickly.  I've wondered if Arte is less interested in the Angels than he used to be.  Will he write the check that makes Trout a Halo for life, or does he hope to sell by then?

He remains a distraction to baseball 28 years after his lifetime ban, and putting him in the HOF for his accomplishments would probably shift attention away from him.  The NFL suspended Paul Hornung for one season for gambling and there is no circus around him.

One point you made that's absolutely essential is picking the right manager after Scioscia leaves, probably when the contract ends after 2018.
And, as DocHalo says, Arte has to pay $$$, with a commitment to win a World Series.
Arte has been sandbagging the last few years until a couple of contracts gone sour expire.  He has to exercise better judgment, respect the chain of command, and let the baseball people make the baseball decisions.  If he doesn't trust his baseball people, he has to go out and get some he does.

I liked the halo on the crown of the cap because it was a unique expression of the team name "Angels."  I also heard that Gene Autry didn't like but allowed it because Bob Reynolds liked it.
The tie in since has been to the Big A so the uniform will have a likeness to the most distinctive feature of the park.  Since they aren't leaving for at least 12 years it's probably a good move.
i miss not only the original halo cap but the uniform that went with it.  The red lettering with the navy accessories were something I liked.
BUT...our moment in time 15 years ago came in the current uniform so it probably doesn't change soon.

I'm with you.  My house was 6.8 miles from the Big A when I lived in California.
I do know Scioscia lets the starting pitcher pick the jersey, and this bunch almost always pick   red.  I'm tired of red.  Like you I want one white home and one gray road.
i don't like alternate (or alterations of) uniforms of any kind whether it be Spring, regular season, all-star game, holidays, or World Series.
The one exception is that I like the original uniform because that's what they wore when I became a fan.
But you know this stuff is all about money.  More things to wear, more things to buy.

    5.  Most baseball players don't run home to mommy - There is quite a bit of hoopla around Trout being from the east coast.  So what.  Most players are on a team that isn't close to their home town.  Even after they've hit free agency.  Especially superstars.  A lot of them chase the money.  But otherwise they chase wins.  The distraction of being at 'home' can actually be a detriment.  For a superstar like Trout, it certainly seems like it could be.
    4.  We're gonna be good - We'll win a wild card spot in 2019 and we'll win the division in 2020.  You heard it here first
    3.  Arte will pay him - there won't be shenanigans.  When it comes time, Arte will back up the truck and give him enough to where becoming a free agent won't even be something he will consider
    2.  Albert Pujols - yes.  Albert Pujols, but not for the reason you think I mean.  Albert should have stayed in St. Louis.  He was beloved by the fans and when you are a declining superstar, that's important.  Why?  It's called grace.  It the reason why David Price hates Boston.  Or any other free agent isn't as happy as where they were when they came to the bigs.  He'll impart this on Mike. If Albert is worth anything over the next 4 years, it will be this.
    1.  Mike Trout want to win HERE.  Most players want to win with the team they've been with.  Not all, but I think Mike does.  Because of numbers 2-5 and because he's loyal.  He wasn't the the top pick in the draft.  The Angels believed in him and he will return the favor.  Money and wins need to a be a non issue and they will be.  He has no loyalty to the phillies or yanks or any any other teams.  So if you remove all the other variables, he will stay.
