Now he’s upstaging Bobby Bonilla day. He’s dead to me.

Funny some of the comments. If we made a swap of 2 marginal players (one of whom may be a reasonable bullpen piece) and received Fletcher and Stassi, who both increase the payroll, this thread would be white hot nuclear.
Not unusual, most fans overvalue their own team’s players, especially those that are likeable.

A couple more thoughts on the Eppler/Minasian comparison…
    1. It’s still early, but it seems like some of the international prospects that Perry brought on have shown some promise. I feel like Epper whiffed on international guys. I’m sure he won’t be signing players from the Bahamas anymore.
    2. If Eppler was still GM, would Marsh have been traded for O’Hoppe? Billy seemed pretty attached to his higher level draftees. And the 1st rounder (I can’t remember his name) that they traded to the Giants was ridiculous. Especially since pitching was a much bigger need than an infielder.  Now, Minasian may become enamored with his draftees as well but he seems more calculating than Eppler was.

I always thought Salmon was a guy who did his business. Not the type to display a lot of emotion. It wasn’t until the 2002 WS that I saw he could show some emotion.

And Hunter played for two great coaches. Tom Kelly and Mike Sciocsia. Both were big on fundamentals, playing smart baseball, and holding players accountable.  Would definitely choose him and take a chance rather than hiring a retread.

Not sure you can say there was no fault on Wise’s part. Sandoval, Dietmers, and Barria regressed, the bullpen decisions didn’t often make sense, and there was little development that I noticed.
I mean, did anyone think that Wise earned another year?

If someone put out the name of a random former head coach of a college team as a viable candidate that person would be shredded on this board.
Former Angel should never  be a qualifying factor.

The more I think about it, Showalter makes the most sense. He should be a good influence on the younger players and I would assume that he’s got good connections to better hitting and pitching coaches than we’ve had in years past. However, given his age and propensity to get fired, it would also be good to have a younger coach who he can develop to eventually manage the team. I would think he’s mature enough to realize the value of that.
If nothing else, he is still very much respected in the game and has shown he can work with younger talent.
(I almost typed that he would “groom” a younger coach but in this day and age that would hold an entirely different meaning).

Minasian needs to stay. I have much more trust in him rebuilding the team than Eppler or DiPoto.

bruin5 got a reaction from khouse in Phil Nevin out as Angels manager, Minasian to remain GM
Funny, but Minasian is tied with Andrew Friedman at 22nd place.  Easy to look in hindsight, but I remember the board was pretty satisfied with the offseason moves.
I have to tell you that when I first read your post I thought Minasian was a serial sexual harasser or liked to kick dogs.

Reagins, DiPoto, Eppler, Minasian. All first time GM’s and paid on the cheap.
Yes, history has shown that he will definitely go for Epstein and give him an ownership stake.

Arte needs to extend Minasian then. If he doesn’t then we are just going to end up with another GM who didn’t get to pick his manager or another new manager in a year.
