You're using a very small sample size and saying he's likely to GIDP's because he already has two GIDP's. Bourjos is one of the least likely to GIDP. In 2011, when he had 552 PA, he only had 7 GIDP's.

I literally cannot find any way to defend this signing. Dipoto assembled one of the worst rotations in recent memory.

Joe Blanton needs to be cut. He is atrocious. I have no confidence when he starts. I think the Angels need to put up over 10 runs when he starts

...and the two Eckstein grand slams on consecutive days against Toronto, the second one a walk-off in the 14th inning. I felt at the time there was something special brewing. We traveled to Cleveland and beat them 21-2 and just kept winning.

    Just got here yesterday...
I dont think you could pay me to put a jersey on tonight and go stand in the outfield.
Looked at the weather yesterday, its suppose to be nicer out tomorrow so i wouldnt be surprised to see a double header tomorrow. Also, looked like it was going to rain all wednesday and both teams have an off day thursday so they may end up playing two tomorrow and one thursday. Obviously just me guessing at this point.
Maybe its a good thing Blantons pitching after all... Outfielders will constantly be moving

Does anyone think Troy Percival would be an effective pitching coach? Doesn't seem like a career closer would have the expertise to coach an entire pitching staff.

Jim reacted to jshep in Why Trout is batting second
I think this is being rather generous about the effects of Trout batting 2nd.

The guys batting ahead and behind of Hamilton haven't changed at all(and it's really iffy if even those guys have a noticeable impact on Hamilton).

Hamilton has faced worse pitchers than he was before though, and he's also pretty good at baseball when he's going good.

Meanwhile, Trout has yet to bat in a runner besides himself since moving to the 2 hole, because Angels leadoff hitters are 1 for 15 since the move(that one hit being Shuck's double from last night), and Aybar's career .320 OBP isn't going to change that.

So basically this just gets a rotation of guys with lackluster or worse base tendencies more ABs instead of the best leadoff hitter in the game, just for the sake of grouping the big names together. (And honestly, if you absolutely feel like you NEED to group them together, move someone up, not Trout out of the leadoff spot)

    Yay?

Jim reacted to tj_ in Was there any official explanation of PB's benching?
The reason it didn't really make a whole lot of sense is why do you send down JB Shuck in the first place if you are not satisfied with the depth for a couple games.  Plus, Bourjos is one of the few who has been hitting.

He started the season with three days off.  He's batting .286 with an OPS of .798.  He didn't need a day off.

Dipoto took over a dump of an organization. His signings were based on what the players have done in the past, not on some nebulous improvement they were supposed to make over what they already were. Thus far, they haven't performed to their capabilities. I'm sure chemistry has something to do with it, but the team as a whole looks completely flat and ill-prepared for the task at hand, and that is on the field management.

And the farther behind they get, the worse it is. They are pressing, and almost everyone in the lineup is trying to hit home runs. They've played like shit, they know they've played like shit, but seem powerless to stop playing like shit.

This is not on Dipoto. He's been trying to put the right pieces in place, but there's nothing he can do when the players perform below capabilities.

I may not be a fan of aj's posts in the spin forum, but he is a pretty darn thoughtful poster in this forum.  About the farthest thing from a troll there is.

Quite honestly, this is the least exciting, least interesting, least compelling angels team I have experienced since the 70's.  Who's fault is it?  Right now I would say everyone from bat boys to the gm.

Proof positive that Greinke should have re-signed with the Angels.  If he did, he never would have gotten injured, since the Angels have no fight in them.

I didn't know so many Dodger lovers were on this board. Carlos wasn't going to do anything until Greinke said something. Greinke stood his ground but he paid the price. Carlos is a hot head, but the ball was at his shoulders then Greinke ran his mouth. I don't blame either one of them for doing what they did. Greinke got the short end of it. And tell Mattingly to quit crying. He has a 230 million dollar payroll and he wants to complain about MLB rules?

That's an excellent job of not actually reading what I posted

All I said was that a lot of major league teams have coaching staffs made up of former marginal big leaguers. Kevin Long and Rudy Jaramillo, considered two of the better hitting coaches in the game, never played in the majors. Mike Maddux and Don Cooper weren't particularly good pitcherss. Dave Duncan was a catcher who didn't hit much.

As far as the Angels coaching staff: I don't really have a problem at all with Eppard, Dino and Alfredo. I'm pretty indifferent towards Piccoilo. I think Butcher and very possibly Scioscia's time here should be approaching it's end pretty quickly.

But I also don't think firing one or both of them is going to magically fix anything with this team.

I think DiPoto should be held accountable as well.  He has really been terrible at reconstructing this bullpen.  He's passed it off as not being that big of an issue, but he could have went out and redirected a lot of money toward getting that issue fixed.  For me it's the worst nightmare a team can have, a bullpen with no stopping power.  Any progress made by an offense gets tossed away night after night because the pen can't hold a lead or keep a game close.  I still think the Blanton signing was a terrible blunder as well.  Those issues, for me, are squarely on DiPoto.
