I’d be down.  Low risk, high potential reward.  If he sucks, cut him.  If he ends up being a cancer, cut him.
but the dude has purpose now.  Focus.  Intention.  Give him an incentive laden deal and I’d bet he buckles down and handles business.  He’s trying to repair his reputation after getting dragged, and convicted by mannered who hated him for exposing the sticky stuff issue.   
after watching his blogs about Japan, I do think he has been humbled a bit.  And he knows so much about baseball and pitching.  
add all of this together and the potential is great, and the risk is league minimum
and for all the PC Nightmare worries, we are already the laughing stock of the league, have been for years now.  Wasting one generational talent and letting the other walk to the other side of town.   There is no reputation to trash.

i hope he does well but the team sucks and Friedman gets frustrated and quits.  Then shohei opts out, and the Angels get both of them.  Nothing would be more awesome than watching Shohei playing for the Angels while the dogs were paying him his deferred money.

Not a chance. Good luck to him, but I hope he sucks ass and the dodgers choke for the entirety of that contract. 

Nope. I hope he gets injured and is terrible at baseball but lives a long and rich life. 

I’ll say this, if they do nothing, that’s a clear indication Arte is 100% done. I think that’s what will happen this year regardless. I don’t think the team will announce it’s up for sale, we will just get a report saying Arte is in agreement with some other dude on the sale of the team.  

Soto's great and all that but he's got old player skills and those guys tend to age the worst.  Maybe more importantly he's going to cost a shit ton to keep around and those are dollars better spent on pitching.
The other thing to consider, Schanuel had the best OBP on the team now that Ohtani is a free agent.  He managed to do that despite playing less than 50 minor league games.   He's a building piece. I'm sure someone will argue that 1B is power position which is true but not making outs and actually making contact are good traits regardless of the position.
