At this point I'd take our current lineup as long as we can gut all the managers and coaches. Not that it's even all their fault. We just need a drastic change and it's easier to do it with coaches/managers than players.
Let's say we have the same players at the beginning of next year. And exact same staff from the owner down to the base coaches. Assume all injuries are healed and we start with what we have now.
How would we do? I predict 70-92
The potential trade to the Angels stank of a situation heading south fast. An aging superstar who hit in the friendliest park in the bigs who was prone to injuries and has a huge contract.
I'm honestly surprised we didn't deal newcomb + heaney or the like for him.
It sounds like those who left baseball and never came back after the allegations or positive tests aren't getting in (bonds, McGwire, Clemens etc...) but those who came back to play *clean will have a shot (arod, ortiz etc...)
Best move ever for Cespedes. Had he come here he may very well have killed his career. I bet he'd be hitting below the mendoza line with no homers and an ops that makes joyce look good.
It's hard to imagine what this will look like in 5-6 years. We will have a guy in a wheelchair making $20M+ per year getting 4 ab per game from the cleanup spot.
