  1. i'm about to make quite a stellar point here. starting pitching is not a bigger concern than bullpen for the angels. relief pitching is also easier to acquire in terms of prospect cost. the angels do have the prospects to acquire a relief pitcher they do not have the prospects to acquire a starting pitcher of any note.
  2. the crux of your point, honing it's accuracy to a sharp edge.
  3. the angels have nothing of which to be ashamed. they had their dark ages as an expansion team, since then they have a pretty respectable history. the other thread, about the angels being 4 games from .500, really opened my eyes to that concept. when they achieve that, which will be very soon, they'll be the only expansion team on that list. that's kind of a big deal, at least to me.
  4. agreed. i'd trade howie in a friggin' new york minute for bundy, if baltimore was stupid enough and they don't strike me as very stupid as of late.
  5. i love watching him. i wish him all the good health in the world.
  6. no sir, this is baseball. guys with quirky names end up in the hall of fame or hall of shame, but either way they're legends. sign him!!!
  7. i don't get to watch the games, but i figure he's either flattened out his two seamer or he's throwing a straight four seamer now. when he was with the padres and mostly with the angels he threw a two seamer with wicked movement. i don't think that's the case anymore. basically i'm saying it's either poor mechanics (two seamer) or stupidity (four seamer).
  8. what's the problem with the word prosecute? institute legal proceedings against (a person or organization). many of the exposed cheaters have been prosecuted either by mlb, the government or both. that doesn't include the court of public opinion. the overall point of my previous post is that many unscrupulous people have gotten away with unknown crimes, but to suggest that because unknown others have realistically gotten away with cheating that others who have been caught should not be punished is...defeatist, childish? i'm not sure what the right word may be here.
  9. it's a shame what has been done, off the field, to the A's. i've always liked them and my all time favorite player, rickey, was an A.
  10. if you want to get colon that's fine, it's your opinion and there's nothing wrong with it, but if you would do it at the expense of improving the bullpen as is, then your opinion is wrong. the bullpen is BY FAR the most glaring weakness on this team.
  11. i wouldn't bet against that. i'd bet that there are war criminals buried in arlington as well. my point is, you can only prosecute those who are caught.
  12. i've been down this road so many times i really don't even care.
  13. you're misinterpreting the veteran's committee. if he doesn't make it into the HOF by vote, then he'll never get in. the HOF's have said by vast majority that they don't believe juicers should be allowed into the HOF. if it's up to them, then arod, bonds, mcgwire, etc. are friggin' toast.
  14. the rangers are a well run franchise. they're having a very bad year for a multitude of reasons. it's going to happen to every franchise, repeatedly. we'll see how they respond. i prefer the angels being in first. hopefully, we'll get there.
  15. i agree with everything you said except the astros being 2-3 years away before being competitive. they're competitive right now, just the improvement within the first half of this season is already evident. if they make a couple astute FA acquisitions, then they'll challenge for a playoff spot as soon as next year. it all depends on the front office.
  16. you know, that's actually pretty impressive. go angels!
  17. ...that they're having a better season than years past, and so are the angels. in all seriousness, if the angels can get two serious relief arms, or maybe even just one, then they'll take care of business. i still think the A's are the best team in the division, and i hate one game wildcard playoffs, but it is such as it is.
  18. that's interesting, thanks. i was unaware of the 1 dollar part.
  19. if you'd like a surprise look up the cubs all time rank.
  20. i think there are some major bullpen moves still ahead. awesome to sweep the DH.
  21. i just heard this in a boston accent.
  22. i think most, including myself, aren't saying we should or would trade richards, but are responding to the idea in general. the fact that he's by far our most attractive piece outside of trout, meaning he's young, good and cost controlled is why he's universally included in a stanton scenario. i know the angels aren't going to be trading for stanton. the real crux of my previous post is that we don't have the top ten prospects to get it done anyway.
  23. wasn't hill acquired to be a lefty specialist? maybe dipoto was watching the ninth and thought, wtf?
