  1. there's a few interesting associations to consider here. one, is that jerry has a history of telling the truth. two, is that jerry has a history of being incredibly, and successfully, secretive on trades. three, and most importanly, is that if this is true, then that means scioscia has accepted smith has his closer.
  2. i've seen joe thatcher pitch for years with the padres he was anything but up and down. in fact he's consistently good against both lefties and righties. he's a welcome addition to the angels bullpen.
  3. disintegration thy name is, A's Acquire Samardzija and Hammel.
  4. this thread has gone off the rails. it reads like a WWE lumberjack match.
  5. living in san diego, i can tell you that joe thatcher was a huge part of what was an excellent bullpen for several years. they even toyed with the idea of making him the closer for awhile. if he's still throwing like he was with the padres, then we got a better than LOOGY pitcher. i hope that's the case.
  6. who is taylorblakeward and why should i trust him like piodeportes?
  7. i like joe thatcher, but i wouldn't trade cowgill or calhoun for him. that's a non-starter.
  8. how about we give up jack shit and get some good players back. i could go for one of those trades right now.
  9. the benefit of having more than one cj. if i decide to back down, you've outlined my fallback plan. you nefarious bastard.
  10. ...but i thought theo sucks and boston was an abberation?
  11. if jepsen has been traded this place is going to go insane. also, what purpose would campana serve. he's a shitty outfielder from what i can see.
  12. he was a star for notre dame. he's used to playing in front of more than 84,000 people per game. i think he's likely to be used to pressure already.
  13. i subscribe to the advanced metrics of baseball thinking, but i don't think they are omniscient. cj wilson, has his shortcomings for sure, i'm not saying he's a true ace or anything like that. he has pitched 2 1/2 years for the angels he has given them over 200 innings of production per season and has his era well under 4 and under 3.5 for one whole season. i can promise you that when dipoto is assembling the angels squad for the upcoming season that they look at a total of approximately 1,450 innings and how they are going to cover those. dipoto and any other gm looks at any pitcher that can give them 200+ innings of well under 4 era, most times, and that guy is considered stellar. you guys may not agree, but i know the gm's are in my corner.
  14. joe thatcher was excellent for the padres. i don't know about in AZ.
  15. i love how cj sucks now. granted he's been struggling his last few starts, but he's been stellar to near stellar his entire contract with the angels.
  16. could someone please tell me the history of halothunder. i think i may have a good idea already.
  17. once again, other than the OP, where are the trade proposals?
  18. a good rule of thumb is you're better off not using big words sarcastically. it never pays dividends and more often punishes the user.
  19. he said they are in their 2nd season at 24. i suppose that could be ambiguous depending on how you define 2nd season. personally, i'd define it as most often the season following your reaching the minimum number of AB's to qualify for rookie of the year, 130 AB's. i'm sure many players get the proverbial cup of coffee beforehand. it's subjective. i'd imagine that the avg age for a mlb'er to have his first 130 ab's is between 25-27. i'd also imagine the avg allstar's age to fall within the same range. i may be wrong, but i was unable to find the information online.
  20. i've sait it previously, but i think it's pretty clear that he's the worst FA contract of all time. there have been many guys that have just sat down on a FA contract, which makes them much worse FA acquisitions, but the real dollar value is outweighed by sheer length and dollars of AP's contract.
  21. i'm not really involved in this conversation, but most impact mlb players start at 22? to be considered an impact mlb'er you have to be better than the organization's number one overall prospect and an mlb top 3 prospect? that seems both inaccurate and an impossibly high standard. i don't know what the average age for a guy's first year is, but i'd believe 22 has to be below the average. i could see maybe a cup of coffee. the word "impact" is highly subjective also. who is an impact player? is it only all stars?
