  1. the truth is that every year it's not the ACE or BIG BAT that is traded that has the greatest impact on the playoff race. it's always some understated trade for a player that plays out of their mind for 2 months. i'd like to see the angels get that guy, and keep their farm system in place. who it is? i have no idea.
  2. stop trading key farm system guys. bedrock is one of those key guys right now. just leave him alone, let him get a little bit better after that major league exposure and then own him for 6 more years for very little money. sounds like a good idea to me. find suckers to take the guys you don't actually want, that's what the cardinals and a select few other teams somehow manage to do.
  3. what kind of game do you think this is? this is a maaaaan's game.
  4. don't question good nicknames, we're in the era A-? and ...y's. what happened to baseball and their great nicknames? days gone by.
  5. it is the padres and their historically bad offense. worst offense since the mound was raised.
  6. oh shit no. that's exactly the kind of management that has destroyed the angels development. bedrock has better stuff and years longer on his career. is street better than bedrock right now? yes, but not in 2 years.
  7. i'm against acquiring price. i don't like the price (zing!) and i agree with those who suspect he's on a career downturn. i've had just about enough of that in an angel uniform, thank you very much. if he holds up and is great for 6 more years, then good for him. although, i'm not buying.
  8. the indisputable fact is that the angels missing the playoffs isn't at cj's feet. unless you want to count when he was with the rangers.
  9. you can't beat up c.j. for struggling recently, he's been very good to excellent during his angels career.
  10. there's been a lot of posts in this thread that i generally agree with, but this one fully summarizes my feelings.
  11. john lackey is the greatest pitcher on earth.
  12. i would like a legitimate closer, i could live with a benoit or something like that and just go with the hot hand. i really don't want to see papelbon become an angel. mostly because i just can't stand to listen to the dumb shit he says. street seems attainable, but i don't know how he'd do in the AL. i guess we'll see what develops.
  13. i'd be honored. on an unrelated note can somebody prove to me that the angels are 36-2 when leading after 8, because that's going to blow my mind. i don't even see how that's possible, unless our record in extra inning games is unbelievable and i don't think that's the case either.
  14. this thread makes me want to kick several people in the dick.
  15. only a dude that fat and lame could take softball that seriously.
  16. obviously i'm not privy to the inner workings of the padres org, but my feelings are that they are going to wait until the offseason to name a permanent GM and that GM will then most likely fire everyone, except for darren balsley (the pitching coach) and probably the bullpen coach. both are very good coaches. so, i think bud gets fired either in the offseason or very late this season. edit: i should say that if black and ALL the coaches get fired, the one to hire as pitching coach is darren balsley. that guy has been leo mazzone without the fanfare. an extremely good pitching coach. predating bud black, i should add.
  17. just goes to show you how save percentage can be misleading. same as trading for a pitcher because he had 40 saves the year prior.
  18. you guys may hate the A's, but they are ballers.
  19. i live in san diego. the padres organization in it's entirety is horrible, but bud black has not been a good manager either. when he gets fired, which will probably be soon, it will be most deserved.
  20. the reports of joe smith's blown saves are greatly exagerated.
  21. just for the sake of clarification, trevor hoffman developed the circle changeup after suffering an arm injury and losing the mid 90's heat. it was a classic case of reinvention.
  22. i feel much better about the angels in a one game playoff than i do in a 5 or 7 game series. anything can happen in one game, but over a series the angels deficiencies, as well as others, will usually show themselves.
  23. that's fun to watch. technically it's on a wild pitch and a throwing error, but all the same.
