There is also a lot more teams and players now. Baseball is also more international now. What percentage of players were HOF in the 60s compared to today would probably be a better judge. I personally think Lofton, Grich and Whitaker are better than a lot of players already in.

I don't know how much weight people give it but Greinke is an excellent hitter and baserunner for a pitcher. That gives him about a 5 extra WAR. He also has 6 gold gloves.

The active HOF players thread has me thinking about no longer eligible players that should be in the HOF. For me it's
    Lou Whitaker
    Bobby Grich
    Jim Edmonds
    Kenny Lofton
Tom Gordon (I know I'm crazy)
    Keith Hernandez
    John Olerud
    Craig Nettles
    Thurmond Munson
I'm sure I'm missing some, but feel free to add and argue.

I think I remember Maddon with the rays once screwing his lineup up once and he lost his DH for the game. The pitcher had to bat clean up too if I remember correctly.

I didn't like the trade either, mainly because of Napoli, but Wells was better than Rivera. Rivera was coming off a negative war year and Wells was a former gold glove center fielder who just hit 30 Homer's and a 4 WAR season. I thought Wells would be good, I wasn't expecting the huge decline like that. But Rivera was nowhere close to Wells. In fact Wells sucked less than Rivera after the trade. The next three seasons Rivera was worth a combined -. 5 war while Wells was only -. 1

Him tagging up from first to go to second because Puig caught the ball nonchalant. Pujols is slow, but he is a smart runner.

I think Kelvin Escobar could have had some good seasons if he never got injured. Wasn't he better than Bartolo when Bartolo won the Cy young.

Yeah Garret racked up hits and stayed healthy. He definitely had trajectory to 3000 hits for a while. Finished with over 2500. He also rarely walked which helped.

The thread about Bourjus and one hit wonders made me think of players that I thought would become perennial allstars. Here are a couple I can think of.
Ramon Ortiz - I thought he was a younger Pedro Martinez in the making. Maybe more Ramon Martinez after all.
Todd Greene - I remember him coming up from the minors and going on a tear until he broke his hand. I thout he would become an all star catcher.
Lou Pote - I always thought he had good movement and was deceptive. He put up good numbers in his MLB career. Not sure why he never stuck around. Who can you guys think of?

What are you talking about. Stats can also vary year to year based on league averages and the parks they pitched in. Washburn had a 4.5 war in 2002. He had a 4.3 war in 2005. 3.9 War in 2001. His last season in baseball he had a 3.7 War. Yes 2002 was his best year, but he had several other years that were close.

I'm arguing that with his contribution And actual playing career he should be a no Brainer. I think his role in free agency, while monumental, actually makes people downplay his career.

I think he should be in as well. He also had over 40 career War, may have got close to 60-70 range if he kept playing.

    Directly from his Wikipedia
"In 2010, Mathis was ranked by Beyond the Box Score as one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball.[8] He also matched his career-worst batting average of .194, while posting a sub-.500 OPS in over 200 at bats."
