Bobby Abreu, he was almost as good as Tony Gwynn.

Fernando Salas
I'm kidding.
I think people actually exaggerate how bad he was. Was he great? No, but he wasn't a negative WAR pitcher.

Tim Belcher, just for getting kicked.

Maybe he can come back as a pitcher.

Look at defensive metrics, Trout isn't great in center, hasn't been for awhile. Moving to left might help him stay healthy. Metrics clearly show Moniak is better defensively right now.

I love Ohtani, but I still don't think what he is doing is sustainable. When he gets to 32/33 years old I think doing both is really going to take a toll and his contract will be horrible. We need to get something for him while we can.

Ohtani needs to get out of this.

Someone mentioned Sean Casey. With our recent recent lack of success with draft picks, it would be a win if he has a Sean Casey career.

It's nice to do the same thread in reverse sometimes.

I think Barria can be an average starter, which would be a huge upgrade.

Philips did not add OF depth. He was a pinch runner and elite defender. Angels OF or Ward, Trout and Renfroe all good defensive players. 1.2 mill for a pinch runner.
Trout is league average defender at this point. He should be in left in a few years.

It's nice to have depth. Releasing MLB quality players is something we haven't done in awhile.

Because he is really good at what he does but not so good starting. He has his niche and can pitch for ten more years in that niche but if he converts to a starter he may pitch himself out of a job.
As is he has no options left, so they have to keep him on the roster. If he fails as a starter it may carry over to returning him to the long relief role. Why break such a good situational pitcher when what the Angels need is him in a long relief role.
Just find a starter and leave Barria making the bullpen that much better.
His career ERA as a starter is 4.03, it's 3.93 as a reliever. He seems pretty even regardless of what he does.

Why doesn't Barria start? He has a good track record. He has the 2nd highest pitching WAR for the Angels since he debuted.

Is Tori Hunter Jr. Still with the Angels?

Zack Greinke and Kershaw have similar Bwar. Kershaw is at 77.8 BWAR and Greinke is at 76.9. Lots of people seem to think Greinke isn't a lock for the hall of fame. They forget how good he was.

They were both pretty bad defensively. Abreu -10 BWAR, Gwynn was -7 BWAR.
