  1. I see so many legends of the game with 100+ WAR, but it seems to be more rare. Trout might have a chance, but is the 100+ WAR era over? I see many players that are great, but it's hard to believe they will get to 100 WAR.

Sure, my response was what is going to happen. The voters DO like things of that nature; i.e. Cabrera beating Trout because of the Triple Crown. Acuna is going to win NL MVP and I don't think it's going to be that close either.

I agree with you. I also think Acuna is going to win because the whole 40/70 thing. But it's really a toss up who the better player is between Betts and Acuna.

40+ HR's is a fantastic season. 70 steals is an amazing season. 40 / 70? Bloody hell! It will be a travesty if he doesn't win MVP having done that.

Yes it's fantastic, but what that have to do with winning MVP. Betts has the same OPS and plays much better defense.

It's Acuna and deservedly so. I get the argument for Betts and all but Acuna just put up the first ever 40/70. He will win it.

I definitely agree it's special, but you don't give away awards just because somebody is the first. End of the day they both have a 1.000 OPS. Acuna steals more bases, but Mookie plays much better defense and also plays short stop and second base which makes that OPS more impressive.

  5. We know Shohei has locked up MVP, but who wins NL? I know Acuna has the fancy 40 HR SB thing, but what Mookie has done playing 3 different premium positions is pretty remarkable as well. Mookie has a slight lead in BWAR and FWAR, to me it's a toss up.

I'd give Mookie the edge because of his versatility, but either winning seems fine.

Brian Fuentes. Never understood bringing in a closer from Colorado. Quickly showed that the home runs that he surrendered were not a product of pitching at Coors Field.

Josh Hamilton. Took tons of money to come over, then played like he couldn't care less. Attitude when caught relapsing into drugs was that the Angels should have known what they were getting when they signed him.

Albert Pujols. Although I don't blame Albert for taking what was offered, his contract and lack of production set the team back years.

Fuentes was one of the best closers in baseball in Colorado. He wasn't giving up tons of home runs in Colorado. He started giving up more home runs and hits once he came to Anaheim.

He gave up .4 HR per nine innings his last year in Colorado. He gave up 1 HR per 9 innings his first year in Anaheim.

His whip jumped from 1.1 in Colorado to 1.4 in Anaheim.

    Relievers are erratic.

Except the actual talent wasn’t there from 2014-2021. So no, not really. Show me the 2014 version of Neto or O’Hoppe or Schanuel. Fletcher or Walsh weren’t close to Neto or Schanuel. Who were the back end relief arms in those years that looked like Bachman, Soriano or Joyce?  Morin? Bedrosian?  If you want to compare Sandoval Detmers to Skaggs or Heaney I think that’s fair. But then who is Silseth or Canning?  Tropeano?

Fletcher had a 3.8 BWAR, that would be the 2nd best player this year. Jared Walsh was an all star. The talent has been there, it just disappeared.
