I'm sure the Angels will do everything they can to extend him.  All the other moves they've made have been for the benefit of the team many of them just flat out haven't worked but they're trying.  If he ends up elsewhere it would suck but I'm an Angels fan first and foremost.  Was long before they won their only title and will be long after.  In the meantime I'll just enjoy watching him play and hope they can right the ship.

Believe it or not Bosh was pretty damn good to at one point being one of the better PF's in the league, making the all NBA 2nd team and being a 9x all star.  Let's take a look at some of the guys making the most in MLB this year per spotrac:

    Ryan Howard 25M
    Teixeira 23.125M
    Pujols 23M
    Mauer 23M
    AGon 21.9M
    M. Kemp 21.3M
    Crawford 21.1M
    Werth 20.6M
    D. Wright 20M
    Beckett 17M
    Holliday 17M

All of these players may have been great or very good at one point and some are having good years now but taking into account their total contracts they're overpaid for what they're doing even in MLB terms.  Some of the guys you can easily make the case only had a few good to very good seasons and teams paid them on hopes of a progression of their production and that hasn't happened.

Jack being traded just means the Cavs can now afford a max contract but I don't think it's an indication of Lebron's decision.  On ESPN the other day they had one of their analysts standing in front of the interactive screen moving free agents to Miami's roster and showing where they would be salary cap wise.  All I could think was that in the end they were over the cap and their roster wasn't much better than it was last year.  Unless Bosh or Wade take a massive pay cut to come back there's just no wiggle room and Wade quite frankly needs to do that or find the fountain of youth.  I think Cleveland's roster is better long term for title runs than anything Miami can put together.

As far as Bosh goes he's like Pau Gasol - overrated when he's the primary player who can't help his team win a playoff series but perfect when he can be the #2 or 3 on a team.  That's what he would be in Houston so even though 22M a year is overpaying for him if that puts them over the hump and they win a title then it's well worth it.

The issue isn't where they take the money from it's whether or not they actually address the problems so he isn't asking for another 5B in a few months when thousands more show up at the border.

Hardly.  I'm pointing out that the feds do a piss poor job of it and everyone knows it, including the feds.  Not only is it a liability in regards to people coming here illegally it's a national security risk.  With technology they could do a better job than they do but like everything of course it won't be perfect.  It's a joke that the feds fail miserably, the states get saddled with the costs associated with illegal immigrants then the feds step in when states try to take action.

I'd be fine with that and I'm sure most others would too but it's a moot point until the feds actually lock down the border.  Poor people from other countries aren't going to try and go through legal means when they have no money and no skills and they know that if they can make it across illegally there's opportunities and taxpayer money they can take advantage of.

I remember a few months ago some website ranked by % the chances of those going for the democratic and republication nominations in 2016.  I died a little inside when I realized our choices may realistically (i.e. 3rd party has no shot) come down to a Clinton or Bush.

Edit - Some quotes from Ginsburg's dissenting opinion.  I'm pulling these from another board so if they're wrong or inaccurate let me know as I don't have time to read through her dissent right now:

"It bears note in this regard that the cost of an IUD is nearly equivalent to a month's full-time pay for workers earning the minimum wage."
"Would the exemption…extend to employers with religiously grounded objections to blood transfusions (Jehovah's Witnesses); antidepressants (Scientologists); medications derived from pigs, including anesthesia, intravenous fluids, and pills coated with gelatin (certain Muslims, Jews, and Hindus); and vaccinations[?]…Not much help there for the lower courts bound by today's decision."
"Approving some religious claims while deeming others unworthy of accommodation could be 'perceived as favoring one religion over another,' the very 'risk the [Constitution's] Establishment Clause was designed to preclude."
"The court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield."

Catwhoshatinthehat got a reaction from Tank in Your ideas on how to fix the K-12 education system
I had AP classes all 4 years in high school but didn't go the IB route.  Most of the people in the AP classes were in the IB program and they were pretty down to earth albeit they seemed shy and standoffish to the kids who didn't know them or have classes with them.  While I haven't kept in touch with many of them directly my friends who are on facebook have told me that some of them seem to be doing pretty well in life - multiple lawyers, some doctors and the list goes on.  AP classes are great because by passing the tests you can avoid taking some of the lower level college courses that are required for everyone.  My girlfriend's niece will graduate in 2015 from high school and she already has quite a few credits out of the way which will save time and money.

I'm not a teacher and I've been out of the public system for almost 15 years now but when a small percentage of the kids get more of the money something isn't quite right.  The federal rules say you have to provide certain services and I get that but there's stories of districts cutting transportation for 90% of their students in order to provide transportation to those with disabilities.  I know multiple teachers and one worked with disabled children who had parents who always wanted more one on one time and some who even sued the districts for more time and resources for their child.  Just to clarify I'm not blaming anyone but putting the majority at a disadvantage for the minority never really works out.  That said there's little or no correlation between money spent per pupil and test results so I can see someone arguing against the spending gap.

I think no child left behind failed and teachers shouldn't have to deal with unruly kids who disrupt and hold up the rest of the class.  Again all your doing is helping the minority at the expense of the majority.  Stop treating kids like they're all winners because that isn't how the real world works.  Ultimately though as others have mentioned it all starts at home.  Other countries put more emphasis on education and plenty of immigrants come here and have children who thrive in the US system.  The greatest teacher on the planet can't help kids who go home and don't have parents who take an interest in their education.  I think ultimately the biggest problem education faces is the biggest problem we face as a country - not enough people taking responsibility for their actions and kids are the responsibility of parents first and foremost and not the schools.

San Antonio has been the model of consistency and best run franchise in the NBA since they drafted Duncan.  That said once he's gone they're going to take a step back because it's not easy to replace a top 10 all time NBA player who's been anchoring the middle for you for 15+ years.  Popovich is a great coach but I wouldn't blame him if he retired when Duncan does because despite how well run the franchise is and how good they've been in the draft they're going to take a step back.  It may not be a brutal process like it is for some teams but it could take a few years to get back to the elite status.

I have no issue with breast feeding my only problem is when you see stories like this pop up it's people who are doing it in a way that draws attention to themselves like they want to make it bigger than it needs to be.  A mom doing it at a restaurant, a coffee shop or in a park while she has a blanket or whatever to cover is one thing but some chick popping her boob out while she's standing up in front of people or during a big moment like a graduation screams attention grab.  I don't advertise I just dropped the kids off at the pool even though people see me walk out of a bathroom.

I know from a federal perspective later this year the Highway Trust Fund will not have enough money to pay all it's bills many of which are to the states for their projects.  That said you can't keep going back to taxpayers for more money when the government is running annual deficits and the middle class is getting pounded.  Time to show some responsibility with what you bring in and stop buying votes before we're all ****ed.
