They definitely should but the fact remains they help support a lot of red states who are net takers at the federal level.  Like I said I'll be interested to see what kind of fall out there is in CA over this because I can see some of the R's who are still left facing po'd voters but voting them out and putting a D in definitely isn't the answer.  We have a governor who supported the newest gas tax increase saying people could afford it and voters who have been able to raise taxes on people making more.  If we continue on the same path we're going to get to a tipping point where even more businesses and people who make a decent living decide it just isn't worth it to be here.  I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for CA to lower the taxes we pay in state.

I wanted to see what the impact would be to me under four scenarios - current tax laws in current house, current tax laws in new house, senate tax plan current house and senate tax plan new house.  A new house priced at 750K results in a mortgage over 500K so not all of that is deductible while my current mortgage is under the 500K limit.  Basically staying in our current place it's a wash because under the senate plan the SALT deduction goes away but the standard deduction is raised and you're allowed to write off up to 10K in property taxes.  Moving to a new house under the senate plan will result in me paying about 3K a year more in federal taxes.  This is based on the senate plan tax brackets with 7 rates and not plan with 4 where I'd pay even more.  At the end of the day all most of us care about first and foremost is how it hits our wallets so I don't blame people who favor it because it benefits them.  The issue for me beyond that is that in the long run this is supposed to add to the debt so once again neither side wants to address the fact that future generations continue to have a bigger burden placed on them due to short term thinking.

It might be entertaining or interesting watching an egomaniac who's probably borderline (or flat out) psychotic let the power go to his head if we were talking about the guy who runs your local HOA but not when it's the president.  The last few days he's really seemed to go off the rails, even by his standards.

Not sure but they didn't agree to an extension before last Monday's deadline so he's set to become an RFA at season's end.  From the Lakers perspective it made sense not to extend him because they want flexibility to possibly go after 2 big name FA's this next off season.  If they don't need all of that money or they see him as being a piece to keep then they can match any contract he gets.

Sounds like there was some kind of disagreement or discord between the manager and either the players or upper management.

They could simplify the tax code and cut spending to balance the budget but it will never happen because any politician that did that would get voted out of office.  Even if they just said we're making 15% cuts across the board to make it "fair" the outcry over what's impacted would require a lot of safe spaces.  The problem is once they start giving something to any group (i.e. taxpayer funded) it's damn near impossible to cut it off.  We'll continue to see the middle class get hammered and further eroded until we get to a point where they have no choice but to make draconian cuts.

The one game playoffs are great because they're the equivalent of game 7.  They're a lot more fun than most of the playoff series which even if they end after 4-5 games you're waiting a week or more for the next series to start while the MLB, NBA and NHL are all guilty of this.

Terrible situation and I think for some people it's going to hit them really hard (if it hasn't already) when they're alone with their thoughts.  Read something yesterday that said some of the people who died did so blocks away after they ran out of the venue.  I imagine adrenaline helped get them that far and if they had to go I hope they didn't even realize they had been hit.
