  1. I knew a guy who was a former heroin addict who said if he had one beer at a bar his next step would be getting as much cash as he can come up with, going somewhere he knows he can score then locking himself in a hotel room where he'd get high until he runs out and worry about the consequences later. This is a guy who was married with kids and had been sober for over 15 years at the time. He volunteered at the methodone clinic so he'd lived through the worst of addiction, saw it every day and would live with it the rest of his life. His solution was to never drink, not put himself in situations where he might be tempted (i.e. going to a bar) and plan accordingly if he was going out with friends who did drink. Hamilton knows if the team wins the division or a playoff series people will drink and champagne will be sprayed. He knows that if he hangs out with friends who are going to a bar they're probably going to drink. He knows that if he watches alcohol commercials and doesn't change the channel it may tempt him. I would never belittle him or anyone else in his situation but that's all a part of dealing with addiction and at the very least you have to put yourself in the best possible situation. Even just one slip up and years of sobriety can mean next to nothing because it's like you never stopped.
  2. I don't mind it but like Stevens said if I want Mexican food I'm not going to Chipotle. As far as taste goes it's got some good choices but I just never catch myself going there where as before I would go a few times a year. They've done just fine without my money and I think they've got a great product or business model because there's a lot of people who will go out of their way to eat there. Like anywhere you go it's all about what you choose to eat but I remember how surprised some people were to see the calorie content once you built a burrito using the online tool.
  3. I wish Josh the best as addiction is nasty. If you've ever been to a meeting for yourself or anyone else and heard someone at AA or NA talk it's pretty eye opening and not something people can easily overcome. That said from a contract perspective this is one of the things I dislike about the fully guaranteed contracts in MLB and the NBA. I realize it's the nature of the beast so to speak but it's still ridiculous to me that contracts are fully guaranteed. I'm not saying that because I think he should be cut but rather because in this situation teams don't seem to have much protection (insurance for injury aside) while the players do.
  4. He didn't make it in the NFL last year because he sucked on the field. Nothing to do with him being gay but that didn't stop him from saying it did.
  5. I'll take things no straight or single guy ever said for $1,000 Alex.
  6. Pretty similar to what happened to the guys I knew. They went from white kids wearing baggy (non jnco) jeans listening to rap and when they showed up to register for classes sophomore year they were wanna be candy kids. One of them had some kind of furry bracelet or some weird crap going on. Even weirder than their change in clothing was their demeanor as they came off like candy kids did being laid back but dopey.
  7. For one of the guys I was talking about working at or even just hanging out at Circle K would be a best case scenario. Guy got sent to continuation school junior year because he was so far behind. Most people in that situation got sent there middle of senior year because they weren't going to graduate but he got an early jump on them. Last I heard he wasn't wearing shoes and had adopted some kind of hippie lifestyle but that was right after high school so I'm hoping he changed for the better. Nothing wrong with their demeanor it was just a trip having known them for years yet at the same time not really surprising because one of them was a follower and would have followed the other one off a cliff like a lemming.
  8. That's a pretty spot on description. I had a few friends I grew up with who started wearing jnco jeans sophomore year of high school and people at school who didn't know them thought they were into the rave scene. The irony was that neither of them had ever been to a rave but that didn't stop them from wearing jnco jeans, over sized shirts (usually white) and have some kind of bracelet or beaded necklace that was multicolored. One of them was the guy who could start growing a mustache in 6th grade so he had that going too which completed the dirty raver look.
  9. Didn't seem intentional based on both Quinn and Myers reaction. Maybe that was their reaction because of how bad of it was. If it was intentional I'll gladly let that one fly over my head.
  10. It was a great call as evidenced by Quinn trying to make a joke during the 40th anniversary show blaming his stutters or messing up lines during weekend update on the person holding the cards. A joke he couldn't even get out without screwing up the punch line.
  11. We have about an hour left recorded to watch so maybe there was more but if you're talking about her doing Farley's Matt Foley she was terrible. I realize it was short but all they did was try to cram the funniest moments from his original Foley skit into 30 rushed seconds. There was no set up it was just let's mention "van down by the river" then watch her take out the table.
  12. I still can't get into FPS on consoles after years of playing TFC and CS on a desktop. I have fun playing like Metal Gear Solid or Halo multiplayer if I'm playing at my buddies house but I can't imagine putting serious time into a FPS on a console due to the controls. I'm still playing the newest dragon age but as someone else mentioned earlier in the thread I need to keep the story moving. Over the last month I've been pretty busy and the only times I played I've been killing dragons which has almost gotten repetitive.
  13. When I read the first word "hicks" I thought they were referring to the redneck culprits and not a last name. Sad yet not really surprising because out of 7+ billion people on this planet there's bound to be some crazy ones.
  14. As others said they definitely made money on the reboot but given the success of some of the other superhero franchises the quality wasn't there. To me about the only way to make Spiderman interesting as far as a new movies goes is to get him into a crossover with some of the characters Marvel has the rights to.
  15. As we discussed in another thread after the SOTU where he mentioned doing away with the tax benefits of a 529 plan this is the next logical step as far as the government is concerned. Our government has a massive spending problem and rather than getting that under control they spend their time on trying to figure out how to get more out of taxpayers which will ultimately screw the middle class.
  16. For me it's not an issue of believing otherwise it's more an issue of seeing how things like this happen without little or no consequence to the guilty parties. Probably not the best analogy but to me it's like seeing some of the stuff individuals who uphold the law get away with. We know there's always corruption and a good old boys club that protects their own but these days with technology we hear more about it happening and there seems to be little to no real accountability. We've got a federal budget that allocates ridiculous amounts every year to the defense budget "protecting us" from foreign threats yet people who could be a threat are allowed into the country and even a path to citizenship if they have enough money.
  17. I think most can agree that some time ago how much money you had in this country started to trump everything else including your ethnicity, political affiliation, religious beliefs, etc. Basically the wealthy can get away with just about anything and actions that would have the posters on this board in prison result in a fine or some kind of plea deal for those with enough money. This is just another extension of that on a global level. Money rules the world.
  18. She always looked like a meth head even in her video way back when. When I saw this thread title I thought it was going to be about her od'ing.
  19. The Pats didn't call a TO when the ball was down at the 5 after the miracle catch because Seattle had to use one of their own or they would have had a delay of game penalty. Most of the players on the field didn't realize he actually caught the ball which kept neither side from getting down to the 5 and set in time to get a play off. The only reason NE would have called a time out there is if Seattle got down and tried to run a play.
  20. I guess that depends on how you define "stopped." They stopped him from getting into the end zone but he gained 4 yards to get to the 1 when NE was playing to stop the run. Again I don't disagree with a throwing play from the 1 on 2nd and goal because if it's incomplete you waste some time and still have the last time out but I was surprised to not see a roll out with a mobile QB either throwing to the corner or trying to run it in. The CB deserves major props and he made a couple other nice plays on that last Seattle possession. He defended that ridiculously lucky catch as well you could ask from a CB yet he didn't let that get him down and made the biggest play he'll ever make 2 plays later.
  21. To his credit after the game Carroll said in an interview "we made the call." Whether that's just the coach taking the blame or not we may never know. Then again if the Seattle OC is out of a job this off season that may be a pretty telling sign.
  22. NE was better prepared and made adjustments when needed while Denver simply got manhandled by Seattle's D last year. NE stuck with short passes whether they were to WR's, Gronkowski or Vereen because those worked and they didn't try to get too cute with the play calling. Even after throwing a bad INT Brady didn't get rattled while last year before Super Bowl 48 I think it was M. Bennett who said if you get to Manning you can rattle him and that's exactly what they did. NE's receivers also didn't get pushed around which is something Seattle is very good at doing. They did it last year to J. Graham in the playoffs against NO making him a non-factor and they did it to Denver's receivers as well. Glad this year's game was entertaining which is good for the sport.
  23. On the last drive I thought it would end with a turnover but that was before the ridiculous catch on the ground that was pure luck as far as right place right time. I don't blame Seattle for not running on that 2nd and goal but I thought they would maybe do a roll out right there and not throw it into the middle of the end zone. I dislike both teams but preferred seeing NE win and most importantly wanted to see a good game after watching the Broncos (my team) get their shit stomped in last year. Great game.
