  1. Surprised I haven't seen anyone mention S. Johnson signing with SD given all the Charger fans on here. While reading about it I was surprised to see that he is only 28 as it just seemed like he's been around longer. As much as I like seeing SD fail I think this could be a nice signing for them. Having a QB who can actually throw could lead to a nice season for him.
  2. Agreed. A very small percentage of guys who play college ball get to the NFL. Guys that get that far normally aren't going to walk away because for many of them that's why they played the game and it's how they make a living. Even if some more guys decide to retire early there's plenty of other guys who would love to take their spot. I'll be honest I wouldn't let my kid play tackle football because I don't think it's worth it as far as injuries go and he's not going to make a living doing it. That said for a lot of guys growing up neither them nor their parents look at it like that and I don't think that's going to change to the point that NFL or college football suffer.
  3. Miami has been trying or willing to unload Wallace going back to last offseason. They paid him #1 receiver money but the problem is that he isn't a #1 receiver as he's more of a deep threat who is good for about 60-70 catches a year. Spiller signed with NO which is interesting since they have Ingram and Robinson also on the roster but right now their WR's are a somewhat broken down M. Colston and a relatively unproven Brandon Cooks. They have 5 picks between the first 3 rounds and I'm sure they'll add another receiver but losing Graham will change how teams defend them.
  4. Cowboys sign McFadden to a 2 year deal. T. Knighton ended up signing with Washington on a 1 year contract for 4M. After Suh signed I thought this guy would get a multiyear deal being the 2nd best DT on the market but it seems that concerns about his weight, him possibly overplaying his hand (saying Oakland's offer wasn't close to what he was looking for) and the depth of DT in the league and draft just seemed to kill his value this year. I'm guessing he's hoping for a big year and more interest when he's a FA next year. Just seems crazy to me because Polian and some of the other analysts were saying as far as value goes he may be a better deal than Suh considering he wouldn't get as much money.
  5. There's a report that the Saints are shopping Kenny Stills. If that's true I'm even more confused by them trading Graham unless they end up trading Brees. Colston restructured his deal but he's nowhere near the receiver he once was and can barely create any separation. They've had success over the years with lesser known receivers but those guys benefited from the attention Colston and Graham would get.
  6. Saying it about her can be construed as being racist while saying it about Bush was considered poor taste or childish.
  7. Agreed with both posts but it's sad they couldn't show more fiscal responsibility before so that they aren't in a situation where Romo counts 27M against the cap. Regardless I think franchising Dez was a must as having him helps open up the run game as teams can't always stack the box.
  8. Murray supposedly got offered 5M per year from Dallas. I realize RB's aren't as valuable as they used to be with teams using dual backs and it being a passing league but that's quite a bit less than McCoy just got on his new deal while Ingram just got 4M a year. Of course it comes down to guaranteed money in the NFL but on an annual basis if they offered him 5M per I can see how despite it being a business that wouldn't sit well with him. Edit - it's being reported the Eagles are giving him 42M over 5 years with 21M guaranteed which is closer to what McCoy got on an annual basis while getting 26M guaranteed.
  9. I've got a roku 3 which works just fine for streaming. Until someone comes out with an affordable option where I can get live sports and only the channels I want so that I can cut cable none of this really appeals to me.
  10. Agreed but Drew Brees is pretty much a god in NO and is a huge part of the community. At the end of the day it's a business but trading him at all and more importantly to a division foe would piss a lot of fans off.
  11. Denver has signed both Owen Daniels and Virgil Green to 3 year contracts. Given Kubiak's zone blocking offense it's not surprising that they added someone like Daniels (been with Kubiak for years) while resigning Green and didn't make an offer to Julius Thomas who ended up with Jacksonville. Thomas is a mismatch nightmare but to steal a line from someone else he can't block the sun out of his eyes and he's failed to stay healthy every year he's been a starter. He was fun to watch but given the teams cap situation there's no way he was staying in Denver.
  12. Guess he's done in the NFL by choice. I'm sure he could have gotten a back up gig somewhere but I guess given all the injuries he's had in his short career he decided to call it quits.
  13. Graham had a down year by his standards but he was also dealing with injuries and is in the prime of his career age wise. Seems weird for them to trade Graham with Brees' window closing unless they really are trying to move Brees as well.
  14. It did (so did other phones in the office) and I actually came here to see if there was an update on the Amber Alert thread or a new thread which there wasn't at the time. I quickly googled how to turn off Amber Alerts as I too have a few phone and will no longer be bothered by family squabbles.
  15. Agreed. Their solution to problem solving too often involves getting on their phone and looking up an answer rather than actually trying to work through it on their own. That doesn't cut it in the real world at work which is a complaint many older workers have of millennials.
  16. Most articles and commentary about millennials considers the generation spanning those born in the early 80's through the early 2000's. Regardless someone born in 1985 probably has far less in common with someone born in 2000 than a boomer born in 1945 does with one born in 1960. I always thought I was a Gen X'er as well and older articles used to lump me in there but somewhere along the way articles on millennials started to consider me one of the oldest ones. It doesn't bother me as I know who I am and it doesn't define me I just don't think it's a valid comparison lumping someone like me in with a kid currently in high school.
  17. Doesn't surprise me either. On a separate note I think the millennials generational definition is too large. I realize other generations span 20 or more years in some cases but comparing someone like me born in the early 80's to my gf's niece who is graduating high school this year is apples to oranges. The youngest millennials don't remember a time without the internet, social media sites and cell phones. I think the impact on technology has affected younger individuals more and makes their upbringing and reality a lot different than anything I experienced. /end old man rant
  18. Any who don't speak up are helping to cover up things so I'd say considering the length of a cops career it's higher than 10%. That doesn't mean they're all covering up police brutality but there's plenty of lesser things that are allowed to happen or not reported. It's herd mentality especially when you're dealing with the good old boys club where you're supposed to keep your mouth shut or turn a blind eye.
  19. We gave That's My Boy a chance hoping it was more of a throwback to Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison and that was the last time I will ever give Sandler money. Props to him for personally making 10's of millions with a movie like Grown Ups but it's almost like his own company and being able to do whatever he wants is the equivalent of a guaranteed contract where he can shit the bed and still get paid. Only when he does it his friends get to join in and make money too. Glad to see Chubbs and the crocodile made an appearance.
  20. Prior to injuring his quad Manning was statistically one of the top 3 QB's. If he's healthy he's still got the ability to be a top 5 QB for one more year so it's not like they're a .500 team who's refusing to move on from their veteran QB while the team circles the drain. The Broncos future after Manning is a least a few years of rebuilding or at most first round playoff fodder because Osweiler or anyone else that comes in is a huge step back. No reason not to take one more chance if Manning passes his physical and wants to come back. They need to address the O-line, keep D. Thomas who they franchised and see if they can find a way to keep Knighton. They have some cap room and I'll be curious to see what happens with a guy like Clady who had a very disappointing 2014.
  21. Alonso being a former Oregon LB coming off a torn ACL. He had a damn good rookie year in 2013 and more now than ever players can come back from injuries like that but still no guarantee about his production going forward. Between trading McCoy and cutting Cole and Williams the Eagles have freed up about 30.5M in cap space once you take into account what Alonso will make. I remember when there was talk they could try to trade McCoy to Oakland to move up to get Mariota. That seemed to be writer speculation but there's multiple reports that Kelly wants Mariota and it would take a lot to move up high enough to get him. Maybe all that cap space allows them to fill the needs that wouldn't be met through the draft if they send a lot of current and future picks off in a deal to move up.
  22. He wanted out last year because he knew their QB situation was terrible and he wanted a shot at a ring after a terrible 2013 season by the team. They won more games than I thought they would because of a very good defense but they should have honored his request last year. Obviously he's older and not the dominant receiver he once was but now they're telling him his role will be decreased when he caught 85 passes last year. Seems kind of crappy to not trade him last year and now they're apparently trying to chase him out but that's the business aspect of it. His cap hit is 16.1M so I think he gets cut and becomes a FA. Where he ends up may depend on how much of a pay cut he's willing to take.
  23. Same. In Irvine we just got hard rain and wind for a while but no hail from what I could tell.
  24. Definitely not the kind of person you want having the access codes and their finger over the button.
