  1. I'm guessing he means as far as the Angels and Clippers being the "little brother" franchises to the more storied and well known franchises in SoCal.
  2. Amazing how quickly things change. I guess this is what happens when I start to give the Clippers credit and take them as a threat. They can definitely still win the series but all the momentum is going Houston's way.
  3. Great deal for the Angels. If it doesn't work out he isn't Vernon Wellsing, Gary Matthewsing or Josh Hamiltoning the club.
  4. Yeah because as a species we've proven time and time again that there's no need for rules, regulations or oversight. It's not like people have a tendency to push the limits, see what they can get away with or flat out lie and cheat while looking for even the smallest advantage.
  5. Multi-layered conspiracy? I didn't read the full report but every article said the conclusion was that Brad "probably" knew what was going on and as eaterfan mentioned it was the ball boy and equipment manager while none of the coaches, front office or ownership were implicated. Again the rules were broken so there should be repercussions but if anything this exposed the holes in how the NFL handles and monitors the footballs teams provide for each game. They measured the pressure before the AFC title game and the balls were within the limits and after that the guy on the field let some air out. If it's that big of a deal the NFL should be supplying the ball boys or have the refs keep the balls somewhere that is monitored at all times.
  6. When news first broke some current and former QB's said this isn't anything unusual as far as a QB doing something to the footballs his team provides for the game. They should be punished for breaking the rules but the penalty is too harsh and I agree that Goodell basically wings it because of the court of public opinion.
  7. Not surprising as Harden is fun to watch but he plays little or no defense far too often. Offensively he reminds me of Tracy McGrady who could light up a scoreboard but other than that he's not the key player on a championship team. Howard has regressed since his Orlando days and it started with his move to the Lakers where he seemed to wilt under the pressure of a bigger market. That guy is more talk than anything and I do really enjoy watching him lose in the playoffs. Looking at all the remaining teams right now it's the Clippers then everyone else. GS can turn it around but they are facing a long physical series from Memphis. Nobody in the east looks impressive right now and had the officials seen Blatt trying to call a TO yesterday when they didn't have one Cleveland would possibly be down 3-1.
  8. It was reported earlier today that the Jaguars #3 overall pick Dante Fowler went down during an 11 on 11 drill and they're now saying it's reportedly a torn ACL and he'll be out all of 2015: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25178655/watch-no-3-overall-pick-dante-fowler-suffers-apparent-knee-injury
  9. AOS and Carter are good enough for me. I like the Hunter character but aside from being hot Bobbi's character hasn't been all that interesting to me and I don't really think Palicki is that good of an actress.
  10. How many "idle rich" people do you think there are? By that I mean people who inherit money and do nothing with it to generate income? Most of the people you're railing on inherit assets that generate income and/or they do what they can to make more money like open businesses, invest and so on. I'm guessing a lot of them fall into the 50% of earners who pay 97% of the income taxes in any given year. We must run in different circles because I don't know people sitting around complaining about the "idle rich." I don't care how people earn or inherit their money as long as it was done legally and they paid taxes when it was earned. Estate/inheritance taxes which are a double taxation as MT pointed out are ridiculous.
  11. I don't understand the NBA's scheduling. The Warriors/Grizzlies played game 2 on Tuesday and don't play game 3 until Saturday. The Clippers/Rockets played game 2 on Wednesday and play game 3 on Friday. So the Warriors/Grizzlies have three days off between games 2 and 3 while the Clippers/Rockets only get one day off. Is there something else scheduled in Memphis or Houston impacting when the teams play?
  12. Can someone education me as to why the pressure matters that much? I mean as far as how you could use that to your advantage because the defenders are going after the same balls that Brady is throwing to his receivers. The receivers still have to run their routes, create separation and get open while the QB has to make his throws. If they're under inflated are we assuming they hang up there longer so someone like Gronk who is bigger can go up for it? Is being under inflated advantageous to a QB like Brady who is aging and his arm isn't as strong as it once was? Did the NFL arrive at the lower and upper limits the balls need to be inflated at because of anything science related or did they just set it and say follow the rules? I'm a Broncos fan and don't give a crap about NE but this all still just seems way overblown to me. Spygate seemed much more serious and yet this is getting just as much attention.
  13. He posted an OPS+ of 78 last year and while he's had success this year it's over a whopping 22 at bats. For the record I like Peter, he was one of the few bright spots at times on the Angels and played like he cared but no one could have predicted the Hamilton situation playing out like it did and the team needing another OF'er in 2015. The Angels needed a 3B and they traded from a place of strength to get one. PB was overvalued a bit much by some on here and the combo of him and Grichuk wasn't going to bring in a bigger haul to fill the Angels needs.
  14. They said it was sung because of something to do with Cinco De Mayo but really Tecate was a major sponsor who paid for it. Once again proving money trumps everything.
  15. Most people I talked to wanted Pacman to win but expected Mayweather to win via decision, myself included. I guess I can't be disappointed since it's what I expected but for me that was the last hurrah for boxing.
  16. Stacy lost the starting job by the end of last season to Mason. It's the backup to the backup demanding a trade when he was already likely to get cut unless someone gets injured during camp. As to the O line comments I think there's still quite a bit of talent left in the draft. Even taking that into account after sleeping on it I'm still not a fan of the Denver move. I realize that Von Miller is a FA next year while Ware is 33 so they're looking ahead which is always good but if they have any window with Peyton this year it all hinges on him not getting hurt. I realize they already added a few guys for O-line depth who Kubiak is familiar with but I would have preferred they just stood pat as there was a lot of value left at the end of round 1.
  17. I filled up on Tuesday night for about $0.30 more a gallon than when I filled up 2 weeks before and on the way work this AM prices were up another $0.35 a gallon. Crazy that the price per barrel is still less than half of what it was a few years ago and we're now paying the same per gallon. Naturally on the news they said a few refineries were shut down for maintenance which is why prices are up.
  18. San Diego moves up two spots to take a guy who as mentioned would have been their unless someone else was trying to move up to get him. I liked the pick for Denver until I saw what they gave up. It wasn't the picks so much as Ramirez who I realize wasn't great last year but they already had needs on the O line. For all that trade talk so far only a few small moves.
  19. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and run on Sunday. Between the busy season at work, birthdays and family gatherings my gym trips have been shorter (mostly cardio) and I haven't made it out to run every weekend the last few months. Despite that I've lost 5 lbs in the last few months but I'm guessing a chunk of that is muscle. I plan to start lifting more but I've been doing most of the same exercises for so long and need to find something else to get into that's more of a full body workout.
  20. Agreed. Looking at the deals anyone who moved into the top 5 or even 10 to get a QB had to give up a lot more than just 2 picks. There's enough teams (Philly, Cleveland, NYJ) interested in Mariota that Tenn could come away with something similar to what the Rams got for the RG3 pick. Given the interest I think they're crazy if they don't trade the pick unless they absolutely believe he's a franchise QB.
  21. I read the offer was their 2 first round picks this year but there was talk (could merely be writer speculation) Tenn would ask for that 2016 first round pick as well. A sportsline article I came across yesterday showed what teams have given up to move up for a QB going back to 2001 when Atlanta moved up to get Vick: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25167515/report-browns-offer-titans-two-first-round-picks-to-move-up-for-mariota
  22. I think the simplest answer as to why he's mentioned and should play a role is that he and Ned were the only two people to leave the Tower of Joy alive. With Ned losing his head only Reed knows what Lyanna made Ned promise on her deathbed. Of course that doesn't mean the simplest answer is right. Whether he intended for this to happen or not I have to give props to Martin. Him not finishing the books has led to so many theories, dissections of the books and discussions like this that only increases interest in the story.
  23. There's no happy medium because as has been discussed before when rioting happens the people doing the looting and destroying are pretty much just looking for a reason to act like idiots. Unfortunately for those who want to do something constructive or try to bring about change they're overshadowed by the idiots.
  24. The thread title is definitely a hyperbole but while browsing yahoo and a few other sites this morning multiple articles popped up after a study showed that from 2007-2012 birthrates in the US among women in their 20's declined to the lowest number of any generation in the countries history: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/will-childless-millennials-turn-america-into-japan/ http://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-birth-rate-dropped-15-percent-2015-4 Obviously the recession is the main reason for the drop but at the crux of it is a system that continues to squeeze the middle class. The cost of raising a child continues to climb, college costs are out of control and wages more or less have been stagnant for years. I remember some time back Jerry Brown said something to the effect of "I don't know what affluent families in CA are doing but they sure aren't having kids." Does anyone else find irony in the fact that the system we (I'd rather say they but I'm a part of it too) created depends on people procreating but it's becoming too expensive for some people to do just that? On the bright side these declines have hit all groups with would be single mothers being no exception. I've got no doubts plenty of these people will have kids later in life but I'm just envisioning Idiocracy where the power couple waits to have kids and the husband strokes out trying to fill up a sperm cup.
  25. I'm sure that won't stop faux news from spending multiple hours talking about it while blaming the president for not taking any action.
