Exactly! You know the shitty thing is that because of Eddings making the call on the Josh Paul/AJ play, calling it a ball that hit the dirt, even if it was reviewed, I doubt it gets overturned because I don't think I have seen a definitive view because of the way Josh caught the ball with the glove opening to the ground, at least that is how I remember it.

Nope. Not at all. It just so happens the Angels tend to always get the sh*t end of the stick, especially when it matters most. Not a coincidence, at all.

For a road game, agreed.   Nibs is a basket case on the road.
    Sure enough, since the ASB:
At home: 30 innings (pitching at least 5.2 innings in every game but one), 3.30 ERA, 1.43 WHIP
On the road: 22.1 innings, 8.10 ERA, 2.20 WHIP

I hope that Nibs never, eeeever pitches a road game in the 2014 post-season.

If somehow the Halos win the ALDS in 3 or 4 games, then they can come back with Weaver and Nibs in ALCS games 1 and 2 at home, and hope that Shoemaker is ready by the latter stages of the ALCS.

Longevity is your answer.   Was Pete Rose better than Ty Cobb?    Hell no.   Had Ty Cobb logged the ABs or games that some of these guys did, like Rose, He'd be the overwhelming hit king.

EDIT: Just checked to see Petey had 2,700 more ABs than Cobb.   For a lifetime .366 hitter, thats about an extra 975 hits Cobb would have had.

Take away the years some of these guys lost during the war, and Jeter isn't 6th.

Jeter is the beneficiary of a lot of good fortune.    He never suffered serious injuries.   He was drafted as a Yankee and played well enough in a stacked lineup to stay there.   He became a God to those fans.

He shouldn't have been a #2 hitter for the last several years.    Those extra ABs translate to hits.    He managed to hold the Yankees hostage the last few years with hitting in that slot.

Jim Thome is like 5-6 in home runs I think (I'm not going to bother to look), and not only is he not mentioned ever as a greatest power hitter of all time, he likely won't make the HOF.

I think the Olberman argument speaks enough about the mediocrity that was Jeter.

Arod is only 500 hits away from Jeter.   Had he not had his suspension, he would be much closer.   Trout will likely pass Jeter.    Ichiro had he come to the MLB a few years earlier could have been the all-time hit king.

I'm kind of having a hard time figuring out the whole "played for the same team" argument and why it's relevant to Jeter's accomplishments as a player. It doesn't make him a better player than someone else because the Yankees paid him a bunch of money to stay with them and surround him with all-stars. The Yankees could have easily just said "nah dude, see ya later" and he would have gone somewhere else.

Jeter was very fortunate for two things… a major-injury free career and being drafted by the Yankees.

He would have been Rey Ordonez if he would have been a Met.   Had he been on KC or Cleveland he would have been just another guy.

Very good player but certainly not worth the hype that's been displayed this season and this week.

Of course as I said that, someone is finishing the bronzing of the Jeets statue in Anaheim.

Lead your league in Runs and RBI's while playing for the team with the best overall record. If that doesn't get you a unanimous vote, I don't know what would. However, they'll be some guy, like that idiot Bill Conlon, that just likes to see his name in the paper by being the one contrarian. Good news is he's dead and can't vote or molest kids anymore.

Derek Jeter had a great career and is/was a fantastic ambassador of the game.

He never cheated, but his stats/awards/honors and even titles are EXTREMELY padded because of:

A.) He was on a team with no payroll
B.) He played for the New York Yankees
C.) Gold Gloves might as well mean most popular

You'd be a little pissed too if you had a career similar to say:

    Todd Helton
    Paul Konerko
Even Griffey Jr didn't get a 1/4 of the attention Jeter gets. Hell, he might have not got 1/10th.

It's not even Jeter, it's ESPN, MLB, etc.

    Yeah, I know...real original....but, it's true.

Oh  no, that would be trerrible. I mean we've only heard about Jeter's retirement since last year and the All Star Game was played so they could talk about Jeter and ask every player how great it was for their career to play with or against or even in the same league as Jeter. And of course Trout was selfish enough to keep the All Star MVP award instead of give it to Jeter. Then there was Jeter day at Angels stadium, where they gave him a surfboard to go with the painting of a painting they gave him last year because he said he was going to retire in a year.

Yeah, we just can't ignore Jeter's accomplishments for the Yankees. Swell guy. Never got a gift basket from him but I live on the wrong coast, I guess.

Only if this included moving the Angels to the east coast. Jeter wouldn't be anything if he had played here. He also would have been traded to the Cardinals 14 years ago.
