Actually don't know who to be pissed at right now.  In principal, the deal seemed to be a solid one for the Angels and their chances in 2020.  The fact that they're not as good is why I'm most annoyed.  The details as to why, if they ever come out, aren't as important.

All I know is that I now want the Angels to make it into a Highway World Series and we pull Luis Rengifo off the bench in Game 7, down by one and he crushes a 2-run homer to win it all.

This is a crazy little soap opera. An interlude before the final pieces of the deal are locked in. Adds some suspense and drama that could have long term major influence on the futures of four teams. Suspended animation for fans of each, afraid to pencil in the new names, thinking of all possible alternative options.
Imagine what's going on behind the scenes with all the teams. Front offices working around the clock, checking and rechecking with coaches and scouts, thinking inside and outside their respective boxes.
It would be great if cameras were in the rooms, watching the wheeling and dealing.
As it stands, the original deal is a win for the Angel's. Starting outfielder and pitcher with a legitimate prospect. At a reasonable cost. I would hope it stands without any revisions or substitutions.

It will be real interesting to see if Pederson is spun off for additional pitching or not.  Let's operate under the assumption that Stripling is coming back as part of the deal, that leaves a potential rotation of:
    1. Stripling
    2. Heaney
    3. Teheran
    4. Bundy
    5. Ohtani/Canning
with Andriese, Pena, Sandoval, Barria, Suarez and Peters as either long relief or swing starter.  Is that enough?  Probably not but it's a hell of a lot better than last season and I think you can see the rotation is also being built with the bullpen in mind as well since there are guys who can pitch multiple innings a few times a week.
I combine Canning and Ohtani together since I can see Eppler/Angels really taking it easy with those two and likely having a gaps in their starts.  With Ohtani considered the 26th man on the roster, that leaves Stripling, Heaney, Teheran, Bundy, Canning, Andriese, and Pena (when healthy, with Peters likely filling in) as starters and long relief and Robles, Buttrey, Bedrosian, Anderson, Ramirez and Middleton giving them 14 pitchers (including Ohtani).
Now, with Joc added to the equation, the lineup looks like:
    1.  Fletcher 2B
    2. Trout CF
    3.  Ohtani DH
    4. Rendon 3B
    5. Pederson RF
    6. Upton LF
    7. Simmons SS
    8. Pujols/LaStella 1B
    9.  Castro C
    Bench: Stassi and Goodwin
Damn, that's a pretty stout roster.
Angels are definitely still going to explore ways to upgrade the rotation as they need a 1/2 type if they can be had but they are less desperate now and can be patient in exploring their options.

First, there’s been rumors that they were in fact cheating on the road as well. Second, you think it makes them unbeatable? Uh, I don’t think you know how hard hitting is. It helps a ton to know what’s coming. It doesn’t make you incapable of losing.

@Pancake Bear The luxury tax part won't matter to the Angels as much as the Red Sox, so to get his AAV off their roster is a top priority. I suspect the Angels would be taking on more salary in 2020 and less in 2021 and 2022.
He's owed 32 million across the next three years and if calculations are correct, the Red Sox figure to be around 10 million over that threshold. Just a guess, but if this did happen, I think the Angels would be on the hook for 20 million in 2020, 15 million in 2021 and 10 million in 2022.
Red Sox would still be on the hook for 51 million of the 96 million Price is owed, but they'd be able to drop under the tax this season, and after next year they'd have Betts and JBJ off the payroll, and would owe 17 million if Price's salary, which means they're be able to extend our sign free agents again next winter. The following winter though, they'll babe on the hook for 22 million of Price's salary, but since it's the last year of his contract, this may not bother Boston so much. In the end, it saves them money and asked Boston to reload and compete again, likely in 2022 or 2023, rather than going through a full rebuilding process.
And for the Angels, they get the pitching Captain they need, the mid rotation starter they need, and at a price that's less than what they would've paid Keuchel or Bumgarner. Price moving away from the AL East, moving to a team with an equally as spectacular OF but far superior infield, reuniting with Maddon, working under Callaway, on a team that figures to have a decently deep bullpen, it just puts him in the perfect scenario to succeed. I think his ERA would deflate down into the mid-3's and he'd cover 150 innings a year.
Certainly not an ace. Certainly a risk. But it had a decent chance of playing out well for the Angels. And I doubt this deal would prevent the Angels from bringing in Alex Wood either.

    Here's what I think:
The Angels clearly love Matt Boyd. They checked in on him back in July and in December last year. Tigers want Marsh which I think is way too much and I think the Angels do as well. The Angels really want him and I think once the Tigers ask for something below Marsh like one of Adams, Knowles or Deveaux or someone else, then I think the Angels will jump all over it. Boyd has played on a terrible team and I think that a pitching coach like Callaway can really help his development. I don't think Boyd is an Ace, but to you point, I think he has the potential to slot in that #2 spot.
I'm all in for the right price. Marsh isn't the price, however.

If you missed Gerrit Cole’s love fest press conference today, consider yourself blessed. But I noticed some things that spell clear success for us and danger for the Yankees.
Cole brought out his oft pictured handmade sign from 2001: “Yankee fan today, tomorrow, forever”.
In 2001, the Yankees were the evil empire. Spending tons of money, but their success was all in the past. They won in 2000, then in the next twenty years, only once.
The year Gerrit Cole held up his sign, the Yankees lost in the World Series. The next year, 2002, they got sent home like the sad sacks they are by the Angels.
The Angels in 2002: Meh rotation, underrated team, with an undersized middle infielder and the best third baseman in baseball, and a relatively new, old school manager who brought the fun back to Anaheim.
2001 - Gerrit Cole lifts the sign; the Yankees go from a period of unprecedented success to a single championship in twenty years.
2002 - The Angels win it all
2019 - The sign is back; the Yankees are again spending loads of money
2020 - Same four numbers in the year. Astonishing similarities otherwise as well
Conclusion? The Yankees are in trouble and the Angels will win the World Series in 2020.
History and the numbers prove it.
    Those who ignore the past...
