I prefer not to overpay for Cole, and use that money to sign Wheeler, Odorizzi, and a 5th starter/bullpen help. Cole’s contract will end up being the next one that sandbags the team in it’s latter years. We have had enough of that.

I have to admit I was all for signing Zobrist the last two times he was a free agent. Not this time.

He has the stats but not the "W/L" of a Top tier guy. 44 wins in 5 years = avg approx. 9 per year.
That would have made him our ace

Mickey Callaway just got canned by the Mets.
He was a bad manager, but was an outstanding pitching coach in the AL for Cleveland. He has that quirky personality like Maddon, so I could see them hitting it off well.
He also has history with Maddon and the Angels in 2002, getting a ring.

Mets GM BVW at the press conference today said Noah Syndergaard will be on the Mets opening day roster, and they are not trading him.

I didn't think so at the time, but man do I miss the "good ole days"

I would be willing to trade Trout if it means winning again.

The lack of a statement from Chuck is really troubling.

I agree, the man deserves respect. You wouldn't do that to Sioscia !!

I think what you see is what you get with Ausmus. He did nothing with a vastly superior roster in Detroit, so I don't see anything changing between now and a year from now. At that point we will all be calling for his head.
Maddon is very quirky, but maybe that's what we need with such a bland roster. He did some of his best work with inferior talent in Tampa Bay, so I would love to see a return to that. Things are just so *ucking boring around this team lately. Maddon would provide a much needed shot in the arm.

And I respect yours as well. It very well may be. With Fletcher becoming more and more of a solid name I wonder if the Angels are questioning a new contract for Simmons that would be $15M as a starting point.
The Mets are loaded on the mound. They also have a narrowing window with some names getting older and also needing substantial raises. They could use a bat.
This would be crazy but maybe we’d get away with a package of Marsh, Simmons, Suarez, Yan and a throw in like Ward.
Perhaps expanding the deal to include Edwin Diaz would bring the price down. No way the Mets can bring him back next year, so unloading him as part of a package would blur the lines a little when you try to evaluate who "won" the trade a few years from now. Mets gave up a few prospects to get Diaz and Cano, so getting a few back would go a long way. He doesn't make a lot of money, and needs a change of scenery. Maybe we fix him and get our closer.

Collective Soul:Saw them live earlier tonight at the Wellmont theatre next town over, Montclair NJ. Small venue, so great up close show. They performed almost all their hits and worked in some new ones. I have always thought they are an underrated band.

If the Angels popped open champagne bottles for winning the division someone ....
Someone on the team would probably hurt themselves doing it and need TJ surgery. Meanwhile, the cork would probably hit Trout in the eye, scratching his retina, making him a mere mortal.

I never knew there was a sequel. Cool! I’ll have to check it out.
