it seems like City of God has been mentioned quite a bit here, so I finally watched it tonight. And yeah, that's just a freaking excellent movie, and even more so when you realize it was made thirteen years ago. Really well shot and edited and told a totally enthralling story. I'm bothered that I didn't see this earlier and will probably be that annoying guy evangelizing this movie to my friends for the next few weeks.

I disagree with bunting to move a runner from first to second in general. It's even worse when you've got your best hitter coming up after the bunt. Really, the only situations in which I'm comfortable with bunting (outside of some NL pitcher batting .081) are with a runner on second and nobody out, the occasional squeeze play, and the Aybar-esque bunt for a base hit when you think the defense is looking a bit too relaxed.

It's a great bad movie. Superbly acted and really engaging, yet I walked away thinking it wasn't that great. But Tom Hardy is freaking awesome in it.

For places to eat, I like Urban Spoon better than Yelp.

Agreed. I just love his mental makeup. He doesn't let his ego control him. And he's mature enough to, despite how great he is, take a look at his overall game, find areas he can improve in, then work his ass off to do it. That's a true pro.

There's nothing wrong with a group of people gathering to worship a God of their choosing with a goal of helping their community or those less fortunate in the world. I haven't been to a church in years, but I still believe that most churches are run by and include people that behave well and have good intentions. This case is, of course, gross. But to suggest that it in any way represents Christianity or religion in general, isn't correct either. Some people are terrible and exploitative. It's just a human thing, but the faith behind it is not the cause.

There was a game in Texas in September 2004 where Vlad hit a chest high fastball damn near a foot off the plate inside for a home run to left. That was the game that started his ridiculous run to end that season. I just remember a feeling after that game of "We got this. Vlad is going into full Hulk mode." It exemplified one of the things that only Angels and Expos fans really understood... Vlad could hit this ridiculous level for a few weeks at a time where you just knew he'd destroy whoever was pitching on any given night.
