He has a lot of incentive to resign.  Injuries can happen any time.  And rich people still spend money so don't go with "he has all the money you need" argument.  A 200 million dollar offer guaranteed is something you don't pass up.  Now that said I do agree the Angels have to show him a plan on how they will get competitive.  I do believe the fans are too negative on this.  In 2013 everyone said it was going to take the Angels 10 years before they can make the playoffs.  Well it took them about ten months.
Now with our pitching injuries things do look bleak.  However, we have a lot of money coming off the books within the next two years.  If spent wisely the Angels could be competitive by 2018.  I have seen stranger things happen.  Hell contrary to what all you guys say I think we would have been competitive this year had we been not  hit with all the devastating injuries.

Escobar is the team's leadoff & .315 hitter on an offensively challenged team with a $ 7 MM option for next year.  Unless he is bringing back high value & the organization is confident that Kaleb Cowart is ready to step in, 3B will be an issue along with LF next year.  Cuidado!

Panic can't set in.  The Angels still have some pieces on which to build a solid foundation. They should do some tweaking at the trade deadline but no "Fire Sale".

I am glad we didn't sign Cespedes .290/.362/.584/.946/18 HR/44 RBI. I was wanting him ever since the World Series. I mean he didn't cost a draft pick or anything.

If it's boiled down to that then I'm rooting for wins.  I watch basically every game and I won't sit there and root for them to lose.

This isn't the NBA.  Even top overall picks aren't guaranteed stars.  Tanking is pointless.

Well, I don't want them to trade away EVERYONE.  Simmons and Calhoun are keepers in my opinion.  I know Calhoun is our best trade piece next to Trout, but I want them to be competitive at some point during Trout's current contract and Calhoun is a big part of that.  Trade guys like Street, Smith, Escobar, and Lincecum and Santiago if they give themselves any value as the deadline approaches.
Then, give Cowart a shot at 3B, Marte at LF, and Bedrosian in a set-up or closer role for the rest of the season to see what they are made of.  Worst case scenario, none do well and the team gets a better draft pick.

Could never understand why people are so infatuated with the personal life of a player. Yes, MCab had some domestic issues, that is why we have a legal system. I only care what the player does between the lines.

    For the record...
This is not a thread to praise Dipoto, but a reminder that prospects do not always work out. Our entire fanbase should know this full well, but if you read the reactions in that Huston Street trade thread, you'd think we traded 4 Mike Trout's.
It still gets me bent thinking we didn't want to cough up Brandon Wood for Miguel Cabrera in addition to Kendrick, Santana and Mathis.

Lol, this type of thinking never ceases to amaze me. For the last 3-4 seasons we have been crying about obtaining a legit lead off hitter. Now we have one, and you want to trade him?

Remember the trade that a bunch of people were up in arms about? You know, the trade where we gave up way too much, mortgaged the farm?
Let this thread be a reminder that the reason you draft players and develop them is two-fold. See if they fit on your club in the future or be a piece to a trade to acquire a need.
Let's take a quick look at the prospects everyone was up in arms about giving up for the much needed closer the Angels needed back in 2014.
Elliot Morris: Cannot get out of Double-A since the trade, posting nearly a 5.00 ERA over the past two seasons.
Taylor Lindsey: Barely hitting above the Mendoza line and was demoted to Double-A last season. Still there, slashing .219/.306/.358
R.J. Alvarez: Has struggled in the big leagues to the tune of a 7.39 ERA with a 1.71 WHIP. He's currently trying to get out of High-A ball now (9+ ERA) while rehabbing.
Jose Rondon: Struggling to get out of Double-A after hitting .190 there last season. Currently he has posted an impotent .247/.278/.355 slash line in Double-A for the Padres with 8 walks vs. 36 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, we received Trevor Gott along with our closer Huston Street in the trade. There were members here and fans on social media at the time of the trade who were pissed that we traded the fireballer Gott for Yunel Escobar from the Nationals in a one-for-one trade. Some said that Escobar had a career year last season and it was doubtful that he'd repeat.
So far this season, Escobar hasn't missed a beat and has looked like the Angels best leadoff man since 2009, when Chone Figgins was setting the table.
Trevor Gott: In Triple-A Gott has posted a 4.55 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and opposing hitters are hitting nearly .300 against him (.295)
So basically the Angels got their closer and leadoff man for 5 Rondons that cannot seem to get out of Double-A or make it back to the big leagues.
    Well done, Angels.

So I'm the only one that thought it looked like Ortega was bunting for a hit? I thought it was a drag type of bunt, not the type of bunt where the batter leaves the bat in the zone longer to make sure he puts the ball in play.
