Of course a World Series title would be pretty cool.
But what would it take for you to consider the 2017 season a success?
I would be happy with around a .500 record and playing significant baseball the last 2 weeks of the season.

My 27 year old son often brings up one of our many Dad/Son only baseball trips. We've been to Old Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Tropicana Field, Safe Co Field, Dodger Stadium, Petco, The MetroDome. These memories will be the memories that he will have forever, when I am dead and gone. Hopefully, this will keep a part of me alive in his stories.

Baseball for me is cathartic. I grew up with it, thanks to my dad, and it's literally one of the two things that we can still talk about (the weather being the other...he also turned me into a weather geek). We really can't talk about much else. When I flew out to Europe (via LAX) in September, he made the drive out from Riverside and we had lunch at the airport and talked about...the Angels. And the weather. 
Still, it was great that he came all the way out to see me.
It was hard to follow postseason baseball while 6 hours ahead of the East Coast (5 hours this week, as Germany turned clocks back last weekend), as all the games were basically the middle of the night for me. The Cubs won Game 7 at about 6 AM my time. But I was listening.
 
 

Didn't make it all the way through this thread but wanted to add this...
A scout who has covered the Angels system for several years told me that Alcantara was, in his opinion, the best prospect in the system. Said he looked like a big league 7th or 8th inning guy. 
This needs a huge caveat though: this scout had not seen the short season teams or the 2016 draftees, so not Jones or Thaiss. But he did like him better than Ward. 
Also, this scout really hates the Angels farm system, so even if he did think  Alcantara is the best, that still doesn't mean he thinks he's good. If a guy might be a 7th inning guy, how valuable is that? He could just be JC Ramirez. 
I am not sure how good Maybin will be, but if he plays great defense, as he should, and has a .340 OBP, that's a big upgrade from the awful defense and .275ish OBP (guessing, didn't look it up) they got out of LF last year. 
Theres also very little risk to this deal, and it's one year, so they don't spend any of their 2018 money, when the market will be better. 

Yeah the thought of trading Calhoun for pitching and signing Cespedes has definitely crossed my mind ha! God I want Cespedes on this team so badly!
 
I also REALLY wish we would've saved our Santiago bullet for a guy like Dietrich
 

Not sure why, but I get the feeling that Cespedes' best days are in front of him. He reminds me a lot of Beltre (Begin racist comments). Everyone thought that Beltre was done after the Dodgers and he just continued to get better and now he's potentially looking at the HoF.

I believe he will only be paid 7 million. Given how he did at the plate alone, he would be a steal at 7 million. The Angels can do anything with him afterwards.

The farm is secondary to the team IMO. I have no problem trading prospects for the betterment of the team. It's one of the reasons why you have a farm. 
Eppler is very aware of the farm situation and will continue to improve the farm in time. 
This off season will be a combination of free agents and trades. It should be a lot of fun.

Which could definitely increase interest in Escobar. If Walker takes a QO (at $17m!!) or negotiates an extension before the 5-day period is up, Escobar on a 1/$7m will look appealing to teams who had targeted guys like Walker, Freese, Turner, Valbuena this offseason. One is already off the board, and Walker and Turner are likely to stay.
