They need to continue to sit Albert and play Walsh everyday at first and dh Ohtani everyday.  You gotta see if Ohtani can figure it out and give Walsh the experience he needs.  They are the future, Albert is the past.

Can anyone think of a another sure fire hall of famer who had a more forgetful last 10 years than Pujols?

I'll ask the question again.  As the season spirals our of control does anyone think Trout could think of his newborn at home and say it's just not worth it anymore and opt out for the rest of the season.  Scrub this year, come back strong next year.

I do love trade value threads.  Everyone seems to overvalue their assests.  I know Fletcher is a popular player here but look at his stats.  Solid 285-290 but doesn't steal bases, no power.  He is a utility infielder.  Check out Goodwins career stats.  He had a good year here last year but was it a flash in the pan?  He is a career 250 hitter with only modest power. The Angels think so highly of him that they still give Upton a chance to play over him.  Adell has value to the organization as a very young cost controlled asset.  I doubt given the 120 million on 4 players for next year they are looking to give away a top prospect who is cheap for anything that is going to cost a lot of money.  Maybe next year. The other young prospects aroung (Ward, Walsh) consistently get called crappy around here but people seem to think they can attract top tier talent elsewhere.  I particularly loved the statement above that the Angels should give Pujols to the Cardinals if they pay even a small part of his salary.  Lets get this straight:  no one is paying anything to get Pujols.  The Angels would have to pay his contract AND probably give up a prospect to get rid of Pujols.  PUjols said FU to the Cardinals when he left and the Cardinals have been breathing a 9 years sigh of relief that they did not get stuck with his disasterous contract.   It will be very curious in 5-6 years to see if the very unpopular thought (and rightfully so) of trading Trout a few years ago to completely replenish the farm system will end up looking like the right move to have made.

If you are Trout and this season continues to spira and you have a new baby at home with Covid swirling around would you consider just opting out at some point?

Yes I do. Was that supposed to be an insult?   Is that your thing, run around and insult anyone who has an opinion?   psychologically speaking that behavior is usually a defense mechanism in people with poor self esteem.

That’s why they have silver slugger awards.  For the best offensive player at each position.

again The problem of “value”.  If we use the war numbers inappropriately and subtract trout, the angels still suck.  If you remove Bregman, suddenly the astros might be in a wild card fight.  Who provided more value to their team?

He’s due for tommy john.  The angels should sign him immediately after the Season and send him for surgery.  Save the really, really heartbreak when it happens mid season and costs two years.

Someone help me out here.  Wasn’t there a team a while back that had a generational talent for 11 years.  They were unable to sign him as he signed with someone else who offered a too long, too expensive deal to watch him break down and fail.  I hope the angels didn’t do that with Trout.  Any remember what team that was?

and I don’t think the angels made a mistake to sign but rarely have these 10+ year deals made sense in the end.

Don’t you just bask in the glow of watching the best person ever at doing something?   Alberts DP record may become one of the untouchables as he piles on for two more years.

The problem with WAR is that is an individual stat in a team game.  If a player goes 4-4 with 2 HR in a game and their team loses 10-8, it looks great on the stat sheet and for WAR calculation but how valuable was that really?  The team still would have lost if he had gone 0-4.  If a guy goes 1-5 but gets a single in the ninth with runners at 2nd and 3rd for the win it may not seem like that valuable a stat line, but that seems like a more valuable game.  However stuff like that is not reflected in WAR because it just looks at the individual stats.  Otherwise it goes to one of my first points.  Why even have a vote?  Just give it to the guy with the highest WAR.
It is discussions like this that make the vote interesting.  No one can argue that overall Trout has been the most consistent great player in the game, doesn't necessarily mean he is the MVP every year.  The lack of a definition of valuable makes it more fun.
