2112 reacted to Jeff Fletcher in Not done?
I shouldn’t be giving my opinion here since the trade isn’t even done yet, but this is my guess....
The Angels wanted Stripling all along. The Dodgers wouldn’t give up a pitcher with 3 years of control and a good track record without asking for prospects the Angels didn’t want to give up (Marsh, etc).
Suddenly the Dodgers are picking up an outfielder and a TON of money, so they need to get someone to take Pederson (and his $9Mish). The Angels agreed to take him just to get Stripling, at a much lower prospect cost.
Stripling was the point of this, I believe.

Just give him the money. The Angels will look cool, and the Dogs will look like a$$holes.

2112 got a reaction from Chuck in AngelsWin.com Today: Angels Win?
I remember this guy named Chuck that got permanently banned from a board I used to frequent. I stopped posting there and started posting here in 2004. Chuck and I have been friends (with the rest of you) ever since.

2112 reacted to Stradling in Adam Kennedy: "Angels are weak"
Over the last few years he’d be the occasional fill in on the pre or post game show, not very often but every once in awhile. Just a hunch that will never happen again. Some people might applaud his honesty but to me it’s kinda sad. When you can’t control your mouth there’s a really good chance you aren’t ever going to be employable. Certainly not covering a team on the radio or tv. By the way he looked super uncomfortable when he was the fill in guy.

2112 reacted to Second Base in Fangraphs / pitcher lists writers high on Patrick Sandoval
The way I see it, Pat Sandoval is the sort of pitcher I would buy low on if I were a GM. Why? His fastball is trending upward, his delivery is still simplistic and he owns an absolutely devastating change up. Guys with that profile, get better over time, as they learn to add and subtract from their fastball, and spot their breaking ball.
Matthew Boyd on the others has one of the best breaking balls in all major league baseball. But since his debut, the fastball has gone from 93-95 to 90-92 and the change up still isn't developing into anything more than a show me pitch. The reason for the high ERA is because when hitters guess right on a 91 mph fastball, it's BP. And the K's are so high because it doesn't matter if they guess right on his breaking ball. You can't do much damage on a ball that breaks that far horizontally.
End result is that in 2020, Boyd is the better pitcher of the two. If the Angels got him, I think the ERA would drop down between 4.00-4.25. Sandoval would develop though. By 2021, they'd be roughly equal in value, and 2022 and beyond, Sandoval would develop into a solid #3/4 starter.
Basically what I'm saying is that if the quality of starter the Angels are looking at is Matt Boyd, they're better off going with Sandoval. The only way I don't roll with Patrick is if they get a legitimate mid rotation starter or better.
Otherwise, Sandoval is the better long term investment.

2112 got a reaction from Tank in Ryu to Toronto 4/$80m
How much is Eppler and how much is they don’t want to play for the Angels? A lot of these pitchers have mileage on them and want to play for an instant contender.
Toronto excluded.

2112 reacted to kevinb in Ryu to Toronto 4/$80m
I don't know. Most of it has to do with money. Are the Phillies that much closer to the playoffs than the Angels? Are the White Sox? I get the Yankees but they offered him the most money, similar to Stras with the Nationals. Other than those two teams who signed high priced deals with instant contenders?

Yes we are the reason we have shitty government is my point. We let it get here. Then we elected a dude where the democrats can now feel justified in hating conservative agendas.
