It is shocking to me how many deals like this Dipoto has made, when I cannot recall a single one made by Reagins.

I have seen warehouse supervisors from temp staffing companies make $30 per hour, so I am not so sure it is accurate to suggest they all get paid crap. And I know that at least some staffing companies work hard to provide their employees with steady, consistent employment.
Of course, nothing prevents those employees from working hard, learning a skill, and then saying goodbye to the staffing companies. This idea that workers are powerless to change their own situation is absurd.

Now you have to re-write your list. I am guessing Heaney would be your number one?

    great question.
to answer your question as asked, i say they fight it out in ST.
Now, chances are great that all 8 won't be healthy to start the season . Because of that, i think the problem works itself out.

Sign him just for the nicknames AO could make relying on "Edison" and all sorts of references to utilities/futility, Brown outs, and being "lights on" (as opposed to lights out).

Wouldn't surprise me one bit to now see them make a move for Shields or Scherzer.

Conspiracy theory: Angels didn't want to trade CJ because 1) they didn't wanna consume any of his contract to stay under the threshold if they added someone big and 2) they didn't have a clear replacement for CJ in case they did flip him and landed nobody. We have the replacement and now there's suddenly $18 million worth of breathing room, now you can consume some of CJ's contract, flip him, and sign somebody. I think this is a precursor to Scherzer. End of conspiracy theory.

    Howie,
Thank you for the memories. You busted your ass for the Angels and you were great with the fans. You're a class act, and even though you're going to a team I hate, I wish you the best.

The Dogs could have the NL All Star team on their roster, and they still would lose the division to the Giants.

Even Dipoto said this last year. They are willing to go over the threshold for the right player. We all discussed this last year during all the talk of Tanaka. It has to be the right player, that player could have been Lester or it might be Scherzer, but I highly doubt it is James Shields. I sure hope it isn't Shields, I don't think I could handle "Not Big Game James" during each time he falls behind in a game.

The problem probably lies with the increased pressure put on from the higher ups. The notion that if they don't get results, or an attack happens on their watch, they are finished.

I don't think we should vilify the entire CIA though. It undermines the countless american lives they have saved protecting our country.
Some of these people give up their own freedoms, that many Americans take for granted, to serve and protect the US.
It's sad to see them vilified.

    Edit:
I just watched this video so I'm in that "Murica" kind of mood.

I don't think they need this as motivation. The fact that they behead their own people for merely looking in the wrong direction indicates they can recruit just fine by simply informing their recruits that they will get to target westerners.
That being said, I agree with you that the U.S. mostly shouldn't be engaging in torture and should hold itself to the highest standards, if for no other reason than to enlist other nations as allies in support of our positions.

So 93 or 80% were guilty of terrorist activities. Sounds like they rounded up the right guys while erring on the side of caution. Maybe the Justice system failed for the 20%, which is on the President not curbing military on refusing any trial process. But to meet the requirements of finding the combatants in a non uniform wearing army the methods had to be less selective.

I think a lot of us just feel this is so low on the priority list that it really isn't a concern. I am far more concerned about the treatment of people in my own country than I am about the treatment of people who would joyfully murder my children if given the opportunity.
If you don't want to be waterboarded, don't be a terrorist.

Neither does anyone else really.  I mean there are only so many conclusions you can reach based on his released video.

    1. We know that he was really good in the "prep" ranks when he played on the Cuban 16-u team, like he was the best 16 year old in the world.
    2. He started playing in the Cuban major leagues at 17 and hasn't been very good at all until last year when he hit .279/.372 with pop at shortstop.
    3. He was the youngest player in the league in his first season and even on his own team he was more of a backup to Alex Guerrero (7 years older than him) who now plays with the Dodgers.
    4. We signed him at 20, and expect him to stick at shortstop and to move straight to A+ or AA.
    5. He won't turn 21 until mid-way through next season.

You have to believe that at 8 million dollars, shattering our international budget and only 20 years old, this kid is bringing something really special to the table and it's only a matter of time until we learn what that is.

I don't trust defensive metrics at all. They both are below average out there.
Kemp played 150 games last year and was very productive with the bat.(140 OPS+)
    Hamilton played 89 with a 114 OPS+

that's what i was saying. i don't think the angels have any intention of being way over the luxury tax threshhold in spring training, hoping that somebody will need a starter due to injury. it puts too much pressure on them and relies on uncontrollable variables. not usually a sound budgeting strategy. like i said, i think that's the least likely scenario.

in my mind most likely scenarios in descending order:

    cj stays with angels.
cj gets traded and angels sign james shields. because lester will have already signed with another team and scherzer is out of their price range completely.
cj gets traded and angels sign a lesser SP, like mccarthy.
