John Taylor reacted to Blarg in This series: Vin or Victor?
I grew up hearing Vin Scully more than the revolving door of Angels TV announcers. The Dodgers had more televised games so his voice was more often the voice of baseball and he always got it right. So right he rarely had the company of a Color Commentator, there was no need, Scully was always prepared. He is comfort food for the ears when it comes to baseball.
The duos other teams chose to use is to make up for the lacking of the play by play announcer. If you would imagine Rojas or Smith doing the entire broadcast solo it isn't a pretty picture. So they need a buffer to take some of the talk time away and it falls on guys that are paid to pose as experts when often then are just running their mouths and offering little insight.
I'd rather listen to Vin over Rojas and Goober but Time Warner decided that only Dodger fans within their cable network will be the only ones that get to. Which means most Dodger fans won't get to listen to him as well. I guess as an Angels fan there is that to hold over them.

It's because any chance I can get to listen to Vin Scully call an Angels game, I have to take advantage of that. I really believe the guy is a National treasure. I always learn something when I listen to him call the game.
Also F#%K the Dodgers.

I think he was just complementing his rack.

John Taylor reacted to CanadianHalo in Don Orsillo coming to the Angels?
Even though I stopped watching shortly after the deadline I'll be pissed if they get rid of Victor. He's one of the few I enjoy listening to. Gubi is freaking horrible, he's the only person on this planet that brings up Albert's career stats more often than Albert himself

I'd rather have a stat-minded Joe Maddon type. I don't want a stubborn old school baseball type.
THINGS HAVE CHANGED. Move on with the changes, or be a bottom feeder.

I hear ya. I'm coming out to Cali specifically for my yearly pilgrimage to catch a home series, and I am more excited to hit the beach then attend the games. I also booked the Embassy Suites right next to Stadium so I'll be able to open up the window to catch the invariable whiff of failure, lol

When I'm coming out to California with a couple of nights free and am considering not even bothering going to an Angels game.

You are probably in such disbelief that you have to make a trip to OC to see it for yourself. Enjoy your trip.

I did the Hamiltown one first, but I was watching the Simpsons episode where the Shelbyville residents show their rage by "shaking their fist in anger" and it seemed funnier to me than the Hamiltown dig lol

well, i guess this answers that age old question of what's better than staying in idaho in september?
have fun, and i hope you catch a couple of home run balls.

Idaho is actually part of the Rocky Mountains, and we identify more with the Pacific Northwest. Also I was born and raised in Huntington Beach. If you call me a mid-westerner again I will shake my fist in great anger
Edit: And burn Hamiltown to the ground, whilst shaking my fist in great anger!

...I will still be watching every game I can on MLB.tv, and I will still be rooting for the team to win, and I will still be making my yearly road trip down to OC from Idaho to catch a home series in September, because this may be a pretty crappy team right now, but dammit its MY pretty crappy team.

Most mid-westerners root for the Tigers or do they not suck enough.

John Taylor got a reaction from 70runner in Victor and Gubi
I think Victors tone reflects how badly the team is playing. I like it because Physioc would be such an optimistic homer no matter what was happening, and I think Victor is being honest about how he is feeling while still being professional. Gubi to me sounds like the color commentator on a EA Sports MVP Baseball game saying the same crap over and over again.
