2002_halos_II reacted to mtangelsfan in So at this rate, we are going to be sellers
If we traded Weaver after the hometown discount he gave us so he could stay in SoCal, that would be a total douchebag move.

Coming home from his first baseball game, Hanky swung open the front door very excited. Unable to attend the game, his father immediately wanted to know what happened. "So, how did you do son?" he asked.
"You'll never believe it dad!" Hanky said. "I was responsible for the winning run!"
"Really? How did you do that?"
    "I dropped the ball."

It is so easy to look at the situation now and say what it is Dipoto should have done and/or not done.  I can say I didn't care for the Blanton signing or the trade for Hanson.  At the time, most here were not happy with either of those.

Looking at it now, it would have made sense to do:

    Sign Hunter (saves money)
Sign Anibal Sanchez (uses money saved above)
    Keep Santana
    Traded for Vargas

    Rotation:

    Weaver
    Sanchez
    Wilson
    Santana
    Vargas

That would be much better than what we have now.

As for the bullpen, they would have been able to keep Walden, sign Burnett and sign Rafael Soriano.

The game where they came back to tie in the late innings with clutch hits after getting no-hit for 7 innings. What game were you watching?

That's debatable.  There are a lot of things that this organization does for this website.  They haven't ever asked for anything in return, have never commented on some of the outrageous things posted on here and have never tried to steer the conversation on aw.  That is reason enough to have at least a small amount of grace and thankfulness from us fans and members of this site.

Mind you, this is my opinion.  Neither AW nor anyone else has asked me to make this argument.  It is just how I feel.

2-4, 1BB, 1 run scored (to break up the shutout). A couple good defensive plays. It was a good game for the Angels. I can't say it was a bad game for Torii.

Don't know how to answer someone's post here, but bdavis621 said "he could have stayed here if he wanted to."  That ..."he bolted to Detroit at start of free agency."

That's BS! Torii waited & was very patient in waiting, for some sort of offer.  They never really made him a decent or credible offer.  They didn't want to re-sign him! They said so.  He wanted to stay!! The Angels insulted him.  They said they just couldn't spend the $ for him.  I hope he does GREAT this weekend.  I'll be there tonight giving him a standing O.  I'm ashamed at the way mgmt. treated him & I want him to know that we, as fans, are very grateful for the years he gave us & the loyalty he showed the Angels up to the end.  He was so much more to the team than just a player.  He was the heart & spirit of the team & I, for one, miss him terribly this year.

Scioscia does not have guys coming after him because you could probably say he is a "player's manager". He lets guys go out and do their thing and if they aren't performing he is sure to say that "so and so will turn it around" or "the ball came out of his hand real well last time" even though he got crushed. Scioscia never throws anyone under the bus, which I sort of applaud, but it seems like that is the last thing this under achieving team needs is a passive, polite, nice coach.

I really feel this team can benefit from a new voice, one with some fire and passion. Someone new to the position that has to prove himself. Scioscia has been there and done that and it really reflects in his style, which comes off as very passive and complacent to the fans. His teams don't show energy like a Texas or San Francisco. Maybe that is just the way these guys are and if so, then that is unfortunate. Baseball is supposed to be fun and it just seems like Scioscia has everyone walking on eggshells.

As much as I crucify the guy, it is not 100% fair for me to say he is a bad manager and everything is his fault. Does he make a lot of calls that I deem very questionable? Of course. Does he do a lot of things well? Of course. Sometimes a new, fresh voice is just needed and like a poster said earlier, it is easier to get that change from the top then it is too overhaul the whole roster. This team should not be 2-6. The team last year should not have missed the playoffs. At the end of the day, winning and losing falls on the manager.

I see it more of the Angels are the men who go to strip clubs and throw their money at strippers and think the strippers like them, only to be disappointed when they find out they're not really that into them.

Sorry to say Chuck.  But this has happened in the past before.  Even to posters on this board.  The only reason why this is an issue is because it happened to a reporter who is an Angels fan.  There is no shock about this happening at the stadium.

This isn't a decathlon.   I don't want to watch Jonathan Quick play center,  Lionel Messi play goalkeeper, or Peyton Manning play safety.  I don't want to watch Albert Pujols pitch or watch Jered Weaver bat.

I don't want to watch the worst hitters on the bench come up because you have to hit for the pitcher. If a pitcher is throwing well, but the bases are loaded, I don't want him to be taken out because he can't hit.   The DH makes baseball a better game and more appealing to the masses.  That's why everyone uses it except for the National League.
