I saw on Reddit that Bobby also said he believes the Angels' were given a chance to match but it was too expensive for Arte, he believes?

I'm happy the Angels are not saddled with a bloated contract like the one Ohtani got from the dummy Dodgers. I think it's a slap in the face to all Angels enjoyers that he would choose to play for the Dodgers being so close in proximity/cross town rival (even though r'tard Dodgers ball washers say it's not a rivalry). I can't help but dislike Ohtani now even though he was a fun player to watch for the last few years.
As great as Ohtani was, in some way I think his superstardom may have had a negative affect on the team. It definitely did on Trout. It was basically like a Buzz Lightyear (Ohtani) and Woody (Trout) type of dynamic. Angels fanboys had found a new toy and Trout as much as he respects Ohtani's game, I'm sure he was pissed a bit that he was no longer the team's top dog. I think during his tenure the team never really gelled together because so much emphasis was placed on what Ohtani "the unicorn" (as some call him, not me) was doing, not that he wasn't deserving of it but it became a media circus and I don't think the rest of the players responded to well even though I haven't heard of any rumblings to that effect. Just my opinion.
One poster on these forums keeps calling Ohtani the new "Kobe" which is so ridiculous I can't believe the post has likes on it (should be thumbed down). Kobe won three championships as a youngster and then two more as a veteran all with the Lakers, never changed teams. He is probably the most beloved LA sports figure of all time. Also, he spoke, y'know, ENGLISH and was a native born American! Ohtani is a foreigner and he could never be compared to a superstar like Kobe (or Jordan/Gretzky for that matter) in the sense of being a LA icon no matter how much you think they are alike, you are just flat out insane for even trying to say that. LMAO. I'm not a Kobe worshipper by no means at all and thought he was a bit full of himself but I'm not that big of an idiot to try and say Ohtani the Japanese foreigner who doesn't speak a lick of English could fill those shoes or ever would fill them. And the same poster said New Balance should start a line that is like Jordan shoes? ROFL. Dude, you are comparing Michael Jordan to Ohtani now too? Just an insane level of mental problems you have to even go there. What person in their right mind would ever by a shoe because Ohtani wore it? You do realize that MJ shoes and basketball shoes are considered fashionable and are worn by the general public. Nobody wears any shoe a baseball player endoreses. Griffery JR/Trout sneakers don't sell, neither would Ohtani's shoe if he had one or gets one. LMFAO. Too funny. Plus, New Balance tried a Kawhi Leonard shoe and nobody bought it. They are known for selling MADE in US/UK sports shoes and even still it is a stupid brand like the rest of the big market sports companies who shill for Chinese yen.

The only right answer to this question was to trade him. It was very clear we didn't have the pieces or the talent to make a run, no matter if we tried or not.
The Padres dd the right thing by trading Soto. We should've traded him. Too late, time to move on.

Was talking about this with someone yesterday. Ohtani is the most popular baseball player, in years (if not decades), by a wide margin.
You have guys like Jeter and Papi who were maybe close, Griffey being the closest, who still don't touch his popularity. Meaning on a global, casual fan scale.
People in Europe are talking about him. Every major athlete has talked about him the past two years.
Going to LA, he'll be the new Kobe. Ans there's a ton of money to be made on that. Baseball players aren't like NBA guys popularity wise. And even if Trout has his own Nike shoe, it's a cleat. Meaning only kids and guys playing baseball are going to buy it. Whereas Shohei and his popularity are going to lead to a ton more.
Like you said, he's going to get richer and richer from endorsements.
It's kind of crazy to think about. He's been super famous playing here the past few years, and now he'll become even bigger. And I don't mean that to knock the Angels, but the situation he's in now is pretty crazy. He has a chance to become the most popular athlete in the world (our time, not ever). Not sure any MLB player has ever been that, with soccer and the NBA out there (those two sports have a way bigger market than baseball does).

In Dodger lineup with Freeman batting behind you and Betts in front Ohtani should put up huge numbers. The years go by I think his pitching will be the biggest question mark. He will be a 45 to 60 HR hitter for many years. Barring injury on the basepaths Ohtani will be one of the better hitters in the game. No matter what you think of Ohtani he has been good for the game. It just did not work for halos for what ever reason.

This hit me a few years ago... as much as I hate them, it's hard as hell not to sit back and admire them.
It's not just the money they have, but they just constantly seem to make the right moves. (Aside from October)

I hate how well run the Dodgers are man. Being able to outspend and boast one of the highest payrolls yearly is the easy part, but them being able to win 90+ games yearly while still maintaining a top 10 farm system every year just isn't fair. Will always have the pieces at their fingertips to make a trade for high end players

At the time of him signing, wasn't it rumored that the Angels' were one of the only organizations that would accommodate Ohtani and his workload, 6 man rotation, etc. ?

Even if I wasn't comfortable with Bieber being healthy; I'd make that trade. Adell has had multiple opportunities and hasn't proven shit at the MLB level. It would probably cost more than Jo Adell, though.

Something that I've been kicking around in my head the last hour or so (among a bunch of other things).
It's already been said to death that we had 6 years to convince him to stay, and that's true.
But I think more directly it was the last 2 years. This past year is obvious enough. But 2022 shouldn't be ignored
2021 Ohtani becomes the biggest story in sports. Ohtani becomes an international sensation, and probably the most popular ballplayer since Griffey.
You still had Trout and hope for Rendon.
And we proceeded to fill out the roster with guys like Jack Mayfield, and Gosselin, and Velasquez, and Lagares.
I liked last offseason, and was excited about Renfroe in particular, and liked that we added depth. But we again stayed away from true impact guys.
I think if you're Ohtani, after the previous 4 seasons, knowing that if Arte wasn't going to go all in with him at his peak, he was never going to.
It was probably pretty clear to him that he would be the next Trout, with Trout the new Pujols, and making the next 6 years like the 6 before it

I know you're being sarcastic but not all these dudes are making $40-60 million a year in endorsement and marketing deals. Yamamoto, if he lives up to the hype, could probably make a pretty chunk every year in endorsement deals. No one is exactly lining up to put Blake Snell all over everything lol.

What’s this “we” shit? The blame lies solely on Arturo. The dude is a disaster of a MLB owner. Gutted development and front office followed by terrible FA contracts. The guy needs to sell the team to someone who isn’t keen on hollowing out the franchise while putting lipstick on a pig.
The Angels are the Meg Ryan of baseball.
