  1. The Angels operate in secrecy; I’ll believe we are still in it until Ohtani makes his decision.

nobody predicted us signing Albert, CJ, Trout extension, and Ohtani. If there is one thing that Moreno is excellent at; it’s keeping a lid on how he’s operating. He’s very much in this fight, his ego will not lose Ohtani to the Dodgers without an excellent sales pitch and effort. Are we the favorites to sign him? Maybe not but this won’t be an easy decision for Ohtani.

Roberts spoke freely and relaxed for 20 minutes, but his face became serious as he spent several moments reading a text message on his phone after his session. He immediately huddled with Dodgers public relations officials.

If the Dodgers miss out on Ohtani and this is the reason why, Roberts will never be able to live this one down lol.

  3. Has it been discussed, even if its not logical, that maybe Shohei re-ups on a 2+1 type of deal with the Angels. Didn't Washington sign a 2 year deal? Maybe Shohei comes back for 2 guaranteed years at a record breaking yearly salary, his rehab year, and one year of pitching and then can opt into a third or out of the contract to get a longer term deal? Also would make sense on Ron's 2 year deal...

Just shooting from the hip here...

Everyone I talk to seems to think he'll stay with us because that's his comfort zone, but will our offer top other suitors? and will Ohtani's desire to be on a perennial winner factor in?

Thats good; I agree with that opinion as well. I don't see Shohei as the type of person to take the most money on the table type of deal. If the deals are close, I think he'll prioritize two things, Winning and his autonomy of his workload/comfort level with organization. Just curious, what is your personal belief? Is he staying or going?

  5. It'll be us or the Dodgers. I really don't think he'll go to Canada and I do not think he'll go to Chicago. Obviously that could be way wrong but I believe he'll stay on the west coast, as well.

Does he go to the team that he thinks is a piece or two away with a hell of a farm system and an already stacked lineup? Or does he buy into what Perry is pitching, the youth we have coming up the pipeline, and maybe get an assurance from Arte/Perry that they're going to go all in if he commits and finish what he started here in Anaheim? I'm going to continue to believe he's going to stay with the Angels.

  6. I think he'll end up with the Dodgers. If there is every a team that seems to be, at least over the last 5-10 years, in post season contention and consistent with their analytics, player development, etc. its the Dodgers. They've got a massive fanbase, he can stay in SoCal and he'll likely be playing for a perennial contender.

If not the Dodgers, I think Seattle and SF are the two likely landings spots. Both west coast teams, SF has a massive Asian population and he could be the face that brings them back into contention. Seattle just seems like a dark horse.

I hope he stays in Anaheim, and I think we are a top 2 landing spot for him, unfortunately IMO it doesn't feel like we'll be #1. If there is any truth to the rumor that came out last week that the Angels will try to accommodate Trout if he asks for a trade; I don't see us committing the money and years to Ohtani in that situation, I see a full blown rebuild.
