kevinb reacted to Angelsjunky in OC Register: Mike Trout on postseason drought: ‘It’s time. We’ve got to get to the playoffs’
    Career worsts for Trout:
    wRC+: 164 (career average 172, previous low 167 in 2012/2014)
WAR/162 games: 7.9, or 2.6 in 53 games played (career average 9.8, previously low 8.6 in 2014, when he had 8.3 in 157 games)
    BA: .281 (career .304)
SB: 1 (previous career low of 11 in 2016/2019)
Fielding Runs/162 games: -7.0 (previous low of -5.0 in 2017).
Also, lowest SLG since 2016, lowest OBP since 2014.
So, Mike: If you want to make the postseason next year, you've got some things to work on. You were still really good in 2020, just not as good as in any previous season.

Btw I've been through ugly times, too. My first venture into Angels baseball was during the 90's...
If I were older, I probably would have jumped off a cliff. Fuck that decade in the ass.

Yeah, for three years, his age 30-32 seasons. They don't have to risk his mid-30s, so should be getting the three best seasons of the hypothetical 7-year deal he could get if he wanted it.
Last year Strasburg got 7/$245, or $35 AAV - and that's for age 31-37. Strasburg has a better track record, but has also never been as good as Bauer this year. I'd say their market value is roughly similar. Cole got 9/$324, or $36M a year, but had a better resume than either pitcher and was younger - but that is mainly represented in the contract length. I have no doubt that Bauer can get 7 years if he wants it.
Now Strasburg was over-paid, even by today's standards. He's a very good pitcher, but not quite in the elite. From 2017-19 he was 6th in fWAR with 14.0 and 12th in ERA at 3.15, so probably a top 10 pitcher but not top 5. Similar to Bauer.
So if Bauer could get $30-35M on a 5-8 year contract, I don't see why he couldn't get $36-40M on a 1-4 year contract. There are probably quite a few GMs that would go for 1/$45M, 2/$85M, 3/$120M or 4/$150M.

It will be funny if the Yankees signed him and he and Cole reunited.

Even if he sucked I would sign him for his swagger.
Bundy has a little bit of that swagger on the mound but Bauer would take it to a whole new level.
    Get it done, Dombrowski 😉

With Bauer’s feud with the Astros and Anaheim’s proximity to the Padres (Clevinger), I’d say the Angels have a great chance to sign him.

Which then why did he play the season if this was the case and only now when there's 5 games left he decided to leave? I guess it just doesn't make sense. Maybe it was all this quarantine thing if these teams made the postseason and he didn't want to put his family through it.

You honestly can't be serious! Albert right below Tiger? Tiger was probably the most popular athlete in the world. He literally by himself created the Nike Golf world. Please tell me even the shoe brand that Pujols endorses? I couldn't tell you who sponsors Albert. Tiger had EA Nike and every other major brand company. Albert is a household name in baseball circles. I bet if you said Albert Pujols to random stranger on the street they wouldn't know who he was. Tiger not only is probably the greatest golfer or at the very least top two greatest golfers in the history of the sport, but he had one of the craziest controversies surrounding him with the sex addict, pills, TMZ thing. Albert has probably never been the most popular baseball player in the MLB. Even in his prime.
Agree, I don't think Arte just wants marketable guys. He wants to win. I liken Arte to Jerry Jones. It's his team, he wants the final say and he thinks he knows what's best. For better or worse.

People don’t agree that it could be family related people don’t care that he opted out and/or they’re ok with it. Create another poll with do you think he opted out for family reasons and I’ll bet it’ll you and 1-2 other people. Most people get exactly why he opted out. Youre clearly the only one I’ve seen argue it’s because someone in his family is sick or some made up thing that no ones substantiated the claim in the media or through the team.

Also I created the poll cause I wanted to see if people agreed with his decision or not. I like polls and wanted to see where people stood. If I was trying to disprove your theory I would have asked the question I posed to you above. Not everything is about you.

No, because there is always an adjustment period for a new coaching staff.
Bud Black didn’t immediately turn the early 2000s pitching staff around, but eventually they became one of the best by 2002.

Like when Arte Signed Colon Vlad Hunter etc. That culture? Arte can be blamed sure, but we wouldn't have Trout locked up or Rendon locked up if it wasn't for Arte. He has done more good than harm to this organization. We wouldn't be near the top in the league of spending if it wasn't for Arte. We sure weren't with the previous owners.

😂 sure everyone is making assumptions on everything. No one has inside information until that information comes out. With the information we do have the assumption I’m making is because of free agency. Youre taking the opposite approach and making an assumption it could be something else. Now go watch Winnie the Pooh so you know who Eeyore is.

Can't it be all three. Dipoto drafted them so he obviously thought they had talent. Eppler kept them in the system so he obviously thought they had talent. The players worked their asses off to become what they are right now so they deserve credit. The coaches and training staff for helping them get there as well. If anyone deserves more credit it's probably the players themselves. But I would praise all parties involved. I didn't think they had it in them.

So, who gets credit for Ward and Walsh and their performance, Dipoto for drafting them, our system (Eppler) for developing them (they were pretty darn good in AAA), or the coaching staff at Long Beach (Maddon’s staff) for giving them the swing alteration?

To answer the question it has to be the coaching staff. They've turned Stassi around, helped Upton snap out of his funk and some others.
