Chris reacted to Dreams in Team Dipoto
The thing I like about Dipoto is that he not only took a Billy Beane approach (using statistics) to assembling a team, but he also took into account scouting (a player's physical and mental makeup).
My problem with Scioscia is he doesn't use statistics. He runs his team primarily on loyalty. His loyalty to his veterans and coaches is so extreme that it has hurt this team and caused our frustrated GM to leave. If Scioscia used statistics he would realize that his team is overly aggressive on the basepaths and that bunting is generally non effective.

Chris reacted to bloodbrother in Mike Scioscia's tenure
Hope so. At this point, the team just needs to move in an entirely new direction. Both Sosh and Dipoto go....Arte gets the new GM first, then the GM can find his new Manager where they can actually be on the same page with regards to things

Chris reacted to ettin in Dipoto cleared out his office
I can't wait for this board to start waxing poetic on Dipoto when our next GM trades for Carlos Gonzalez, eats the entire contract and sends Kole Calhoun and Andrew Heaney to the Rockies in return.

Chris reacted to ettin in Dipoto cleared out his office
At this point I don't care who leaked out the information, the loss of Jerry Dipoto is a major blow to this team period in my opinion.
You can't be a General Manager with your wings clipped. Moreno of all people should understand that yet he put Jerry in that position from the beginning.

Chris reacted to Reveille1984 in Dipoto cleared out his office
I think peace-brokering is a bit late at this point in the game. Seems like they've been at odds since Dipoto was hired basically.
Arte really needs to just man up and show Sosh the door. Dipoto leaving would be a huge blow to the prospect of this franchise actually becoming modernized and relevant, and who the hell is going to want to be GM here after that sort of fallout?

Reports are coming in that he resigned.
What the **** is this bullshit?
He was one of the bright spots in the organization.

Chris reacted to Second Base in The Angels Future LF is....
Part of the deal was contingent upon him signing an extension. And to be fair, there are hundred of these type of deals where you wish you pulled the trigger. Angels drafted Matt Harvey and Buster Posey, didn't sign either . They were on the verge of trading Aybar twice. Once to the Orioles Erik Bedard another to the Cards for Wacha It was also reported that they lost out on Adrian Beltre by a mere 2 million dollars they were outbid by the Red Sox on Carl Crawford by 30 million They were going to sign Matt Garza for 10 million more than he got from the Brewers but he was on vacation and didn't respond They offered the same annual value the Padres gave to James Shields

Chris reacted to Jeff Fletcher in Erick Aybar Leadoff
Aybar has hit .270 with a .309 OBP as a lead off hitter.
He's hit .276 with a .316 OBP overall.
Not much difference especially since the sample at lead off is smaller.
Aybar said in the past he did change his approach when he hit leadoff because he was younger and didn't know what he was doing. Now he isn't changing anything. Basically he learned.
The reason Aybar is in a slump now is because it's baseball and hitters go into slumps. He was hitting about .340 for about 3 weeks. He's cooled off. It happens.
Moving guys in the order has very little impact on how they perform.
The problem with the Angels lineup is not the order of the hitters but that there aren't enough of them. It's hard to make a good lineup with 3 good hitters, 3 ok ones and 3 bad ones.
