I thought it was all about playing time for Albert. Won't he get LESS on an NL team, especially the Dodgers. Of course this is costing the Dodgers nothing.

Late to the thread so probably just repeating everything that has been said but it’s proper mixed emotions.
Hes been pretty terrible for half a decade, never lived up to the contract or prior performance, been such a weakness at the plate and running the bases for this team and we are going to be better without him in there.
However personally still quite emotional. He’s a true icon of the sport. A generational talent that has done so much for the game. By all accounts an incredible person off the field. And it’s a shame to see him go out like this.

I guess as an Angels fan I’m happy this decision has finally been made and we can move on and improve the hitting. As a baseball fan I’m sad that it’s happened like this and not on his own terms, but glad we can celebrate such a special career

Not sure how I feel about this.  After all this time, in his last year, to just cut him after the FO benches him feels like dirty pool.  It’s not like he’s singlehandedly cost us these games and certainly isn’t a damn pitcher.
this feels wrong in so many ways to treat a first ballot HOFer this way this late in his contract.
I am not saying we are not better off without him by any means, but it doesn’t feel like something the Angels would do.
there’s got to be more to this story.  A lot more.  I really hope he requested it.  and that the decision was his.  Then at least we’d have clear conscience?  But on the surface we look like aholes

Update: sounds like Albert asked for it, so be it then.  Again I’ve wanted him to walk away the last couple years.  So yeah we are better off.  Just the timing is so freaking bizarre.  We tolerated his mediocre numbers for 9 years, and this year wasn’t any different, yet they make the call now to cut him?  Not in spring?  Not in the off-season when we could’ve gotten pitching.  Just weird, isn’t it.
and sad that such an amazing career is going out like this.  Fizzling out with deflating ballon noise and negativity and controversy.  What a shame.
    but...moving on

Hard to top '95 as far as disappointments go.  I even took a baseball break after that.  But, this is a team that does not have a chance because the pitching is not there, bottom line.  You should be able to win a few games once in awhile when you score 3, 4, 5, or even 6 runs.  It has to be devastating for the players to score and it doesn''t even help. And the starting pitchers that do good and leave with a lead (when they are allowed to go at least 5 innings) pretty much know the bullpen will blow it all up (and the opposing hitters are happy to face our pitchers). Of course knowing there is only a few weeks to straighten it out doesn't help.  It makes me sad to even watch.

Everyone WOULD have forgiven him except his apology meant absolutely nothing since he blamed it on the media.  And, he didn't learn anything from this experience, it was all poor him.

So, make excuse....then act like it was technically against the rules, but not that big of a deal....then give a half-hearted apology about the way things turned out  (getting caught).    He would have been better off just shutting up.   At least he didn't predict the White Sox would be in the world series....

A reader forwarded this story to me and I ran it by Scott Boras and he said it’s not true. They never were told or led to believe in any way the Angels had any issue with having two Asian players.

He was born in AZ, played at ASU and now he gets to play for the diamondbacks so good for him.  He was one of the few guys in the last decade that came up through the system, turned into an every day player and produced while he wasn't really a highly touted prospect.  I wish him nothing but the best.

Hell, yes!  I can see going as a non-political honor/celebration no matter how you feel, but wearing that hat changes the whole vibe and makes it about Trump instead of the Nationals.  Disappointed with Suzuki.

Palomar reacted to GA16 in OC Register: Whicker: What did the Angels know about Tyler Skaggs – and when?
And what about his real family? His wife, mother, friends  and relatives? Does this also "blow away" the myth that they were his family because they didn't know Tyler was an addict either? I hate hearing all the blame being placed on the Angels shoulders. If the Angels should have known then his real family should have as well. It is unfair to point the finger at the Angels and say they let this happen, when it is much deeper than that.
