  1. @Chuckster70 - this is great stuff!  And I totally agree w/ this quote from the summary pre-amble: "I don't give out grades for drafts as it takes at minimum four to five years to really see how successful a draft was"....

So... Do we have a similar summary archived from 4 or 5 years back that we could review to see how well the organization talent evaluators did that year (and I like the idea of a scale: "if two or three players make it to the big leagues with some form of Major League success (three-or-more years of average value), you can call the draft a success"

    Moniak minors .256/.305/.410/.715

    Marsh minors     .288/.371/.440/.811

I hope this clears up any discussion about which player has a more likely chance to have a major league career.

    Sooooo....

How do you extrapolate those stats into an MLB leading 36% strikeout rate...? (3% more than any other MLB player)...

  3. For me - Fletch is a great piece to fit in a healthy and solid line-up that's clicking.  A line-up that includes: Trout, Ohtani, Rendon, Rengifo, Walsh...

If you're counting on him as a centerpiece in a thin line-up (see last night), you're going to be disappointed and frustrated...

You need these types of pieces to make a deep run in the playoffs (think S. Speizio, M. Lemke, K. Lofton, C. Taylor, etc)... guys that put the ball in play and make things happen...

Can someone with knowledge about prospects compare what the Angels received from the Syndergaard trade to what they could have drafted had Syndergaard not been signed?

My gut tells me that even though the return was meh, it was better than the potential draft pick.

They received a former number one overall pick... And a high-ceiling single-A outfielder...

They wouldn't have received a #1 overall pick - and certainly not 2 picks, had Syndergaard walked...

  5. Did we improve this year's roster that was/is only headed to the scene of a violent crash... no (that's the whole point of being a "seller" at the trade deadline!)...

Did we improve our future prospect base... yes (and we did so in areas of organizational need)...

Did we better position ourselves financially to retain Ohtani... yes (and this point trumps the first two by an order of magnitude - for me anyway)...

  6. Gore is hurt and his velo is down...

Abrams his hitting .230 and not looking all that great at the plate...

    Hassell is in single-A ball...

And for that the Pads get Soto.... and the Bell kicker.... (that's 2 MLB proven solid or better bats, for 3 weak loto tickets)...

I'd be pissed if I was a Nats fan...

I'm pretty happy with this. I kept going through scenarios of different teams prospects/players coming our way for Shohei Ohtani and none of them really made me feel good with the return.

I truly believe that Arte will not only extend Ohtani but shock the world by adding some key players to help bolster the club's chances in 2023 and beyond.

    Same...

And I'll add: I actually think Shohei likes it here and would prefer to stay... Now Arte and Perry need to show Ohtani (and Trout) the commitment they both deserve as the two greatest players of this generation....

The Padres are offering CJ Abrams, Adrian Morejon, Mackenzie Gore, Robert Hassell III and more for Juan Soto.

That's a franchise altering amount of talent, all of which is major league ready or will be soon, which removes the uncertainty.

You're looking at a star starting SS, two major league ready lefties that project toward the middle or front of a rotation and one of the best OF prospects in baseball, that doesn't come with the red flags that Adell or Marsh had (that's not to say they both won't figure it out, but the learning curve being a steep one should've been foreseen).

If anyone is offering that for Ohtani, then I hope the Angels make that trade, both for their sake and Ohtani's.

Everyone keeps talking about and comping Soto - As though it's an actual comp!?!??!

The Soto deal is the floor for Ohtani.  Ohtani's a front-end starter AND an All-Star hitter (not to mention, he's AS capable as Soto, it not more so, on defense)...

The biggest L this org could take, would be taking any deal comparable or similar to Soto...

If “paired with a healthy DeGrom or Scherzer they’re almost unstoppable”. . . .

Then why aren’t the Angels just committed to adding one or two super premium players so that is is the Angels that are almost unstoppable?

This is exactly what they should do instead of even considering trading him.

...uh... where do you see another DeGrom and Scherzer laying around...?!?!?!?!?

I sure miss him too, @Deek.

The last time I was in ST with @tdawg87, we joined @krAbs and Paul to the Cubs game at their new ballpark. The car ride over was fun.

The older we get the more we see friends and family of ours pass on. It's a sad but a reminder that we have to love on those closest to us and enjoy the time we have with each other. Nobody knows when our time's up on this earth.

I totally forgot you were in that old forum and in that suite party back in 97 or 98 when Spezio walked off on the Tigers closer after Jeff Weaver dominated the Angels the entire game.

Dang Chuck - great memory!  I can't recall what I did last week half the time - LOL!!!

  11. Thanks for sharing Chuck... And so sad to hear the news about Penny - I met her  a few times at our functions over the years and her wit always made me smile...

And thanks for the bump on Paul/Pablo's thread... He was a dear friend/co-worker/"Angels-season-ticket-holder-group" and I think of him often during my bike rides in SoCal...

    Haven’t found it yet.

I did see who has the most 1 run victories so far.

NYY have the best record at 18-8

    Seattle is 18-12.

Toronto has the most wins (19-14 record).

Thanks AO… now I don’t feel so bad - LOL!

I think (if it’s as bad as I suspect) that it’s a noteworthy topic for discussion…

  13. Apologies for not being as tech-savvy as many on the board, but I actually did spend some time trying to find the answer today and was unsuccessful...

Who leads MLB in one-run losses... I'll be shocked if we're not in the top 3... I can't remember an Angels squad that seemed to lose more of them...
