    Dear Pete Rose,

    Your first three season's you hit .286/.348/.386 - 105 OPS+
Trouts first three seasons he hit .311/.403/.561 - 172 OPS+

At his current pace Trout will exceed your career total of 160 HRs over 24 years in only his 5th full season.  Yes, you were very good at limiting your K's as a player and then you bet on baseball and got stuck with the mother of all golden sombreros.
    Grats.

Eliminating the shift would be re-writing the rule book. As long as the 8 players are in play between the lines it should not matter.

Glitchy reacted to ElainaFrancis in THANK YOU to friends of PercySquint
Hello everyone, my name is Elaina and I am Mike's (aka PercySquint) daughter. I have tears in my eyes as I write this-- I am so incredibly moved by the kindness of the community on AngelsWin.com.
As you know, my dad had a brief (just over 2 months) battle with cancer. We were shocked at his sudden passing, and not a day goes by where I reach for the phone to call him. It's just surreal. My four year old son and especially my two year old daughter, with whom he had a special bond, ask about him, wonder out loud if he is looking out for us, and shout "Hi Grandad!" from the backseat of the car, anytime we drive past Anaheim Stadium and the big A.
I've always known he was a diehard fan, and have countless memories of going to games with him growing up. But I didn't know about his presence in this forum until after he passed, and what a gem it's been for me to discover. His wacky posts, all of the photos of him in that unforgettable hat, and the touching tributes many of you left upon hearing the news that he had died. My husband and I read through each one together, laughing at some memories, crying at others, and blown away by the amount of people whose lives he touched.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank this community for remembering my dad. For the unbelievable kindness you shared by raising funds for the kiddos. For the touching tributes in the jerseys and Angels sweatshirts, which they will proudly wear in memory of their Grandad. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I know my Dad is having a blast watching all of this unfold from above, and I know he'll be there when I take my daughter to her first Angels game, and when my son starts pony tee-ball in the spring. He'll be there with all of you guys, his buddies, as future seasons (and hopefully playoffs) unfold.
A million times over, thank you.
    -Elaina Francis

I don't think so, failos.  The 2014 Royals remind me of the 2002 Halos.  Once your team is done, baseball doesn't end.  TB, have a great time at the World Series--very cool!

I'm certain this can run us aground into a never ending debate about what it means to be "a fan".  I don't want to set a definition for everyone across all space and time, but for me, it means something particular.  It means I'm going to devote my time and emotional energy into exploring all the facets of the team. I'm going to forgo some activities and money so that I can experience the game with the players.  It means the team has my loyalty, devotion and emotional capital.  I'm not simply hoping they win, I'm willing to be deeply disappointed if they lose.

The 2001 Jermaine Dye/Neifi Perez trade utterly destroyed me. It was clear that the Glass family did not respect me and I was giving the team more than they would ever give me.  I still hung in there for another 3 years (man crush on Mike Sweeney).

Did I just decide to become an Angels fan?  In a word, "yes".  I decided to give myself a 2 year transition period to root for both teams and then I forsook the Royals.  I stopped checking box scores.  I didn't care who was starting.  I moved on.

I didn't burn my George Brett signed World Series ball or anything.  I still own my cap and I reserve the right to put it on any time I want.  But I'm not going to live or die with them. I went from being an active fan to a passive fan (although in 2006 I probably felt hate for them).  I experienced all the emotions of a breakup with a girlfriend. It just so happens that my ex-girlfriend is now in a beauty contest with my wife.

I grew up a diehard Royals fan and "converted" to the Angels in 2005. Last night I was swirling with emotions because, as you can imagine, this is a dream come true, a nightmare scenario for me.  Or perhaps it's a nightmare scenario a dream come true. I can't make up my mind.

I'll spare you the 10,000 word post that would express everything I have to say about this series. But I will leave you with this:

Ned Yost represents EVERY reason why I'm no longer a Royals fan. There are too many limitations placed on this team to have the extra burden of mismanagement and stupid baseball decisions. The old demons came back to haunt around the 6th inning last night for me and it wasn't pretty.  As much as I don't like the cognitive dissonance from this match up, as an Angels fan I'm thrilled we are playing KC. The Royals not only have to beat the best team in baseball but they also have to beat the worst manager in baseball. I like our chances. Ned Yost literally cost them the Division Title. That's hard for a manager to do.

If the Royals do happen to advance I'll find myself in the uncomfortable position of being something akin to an ex-Mormon rooting for BYU.

Your immaturity is showing. You have no idea what type of pain an ab strain is if you make that statement. It's similar to a pulled back muscle. Good luck forcing your body carry a box let alone pitching full speed in a playoff game. I can't imagine pitching with either injury unless under some sort of pain killer.

Hey Guys.  This is David, Matt's Dad.  Thank you for the kind words and the laughs.  I have been on the board for quite some time, but do not write too many comments. Just to clear a couple of things up.  My wife, Karen, Matt's Mom does not have a beard.  HaHa  I do not have a full beard now but did a few years ago. Just a mustache and goatee now.  Thanks for supporting Matt.  He is a great young man who has worked his butt off to get to where he is at.  I am so glad he was finally given the chance to help this team.  We are so blessed that he has performed the way he has.  He will give you every thing he has each time he pitches.  I hope it continues. GO ANGELS!

I don't know if you have an account here, but I know you at least read this board. I just wanted to say thank you for having Matt. He is awesome.

Also, I'm assuming you have a beard, or have at least had one at some point in your life, but thank you for giving him his genes so we can stare at that bush of holiness while your son pitches.

Again, thank you for Matt. We appreciate it.

Just before he threw the bat, the previous pitch Abad did try to plunk him. But according the the "unwritten rule" this was going to happen. A few nights before he tried to get into it with Donaldson for a clean tag. Then today he purposely hit Norris in the head with the bat on the back swing (taking him out of the game). He was for sure going to wear one for his antics this weekend. Manny better wear his armor the next time they face him because he will wear a pitch or two before when they face one another in July.

The league should slap a few games suspension for his total antics. He will probably win the appeal due to no concrete evidence, but give him a scare. Let him sweat out the due process.
