    Dude, that was unnecessary.

The facts remain there is no way to properly do a background check on a citizenship that has little to no internal tracking of their populace. The Director of the FBI, Come, just made that exact statement, they have no database at this time for a country that they have little to no diplomatic relations with.

I think the point is a unified front of states would send the message to the White House that the US is not the dumping zone for refugees from across the world. That the appropriate location is in a country bordering the areas of conflict that there is no language or cultural barriers.

I agree that it would better if some of them could end up in some of the surrounding countries.  That aside however, I think that its not right to assume that they wont integrate well here.  There are literally millions of examples of middle easterners who have come here and integrated just fine.

Rod was a very influential person in my life and helped me receive a second chance in baseball. I knew him for many years when his girls were young. We would sit and talk hitting and how to attack a hitter (I was a pitcher) based on where he stood in the box and were his hands were to what goes through a hitters mind and thought process during an at bat.

We would then go into the cage and I would then throw live to him and work what we talked about. It was almost Kung-Fu like (Grass-hopper when you can snatch the pebbles from my hand you may go).

When I caught him flailing at a forkball in the dirt. He stepped out called me over and said let me make a couple calls for you.

So I have to give some respect to the KCMO police recently. I was downtown when they won it, and it was a madhouse. KCPD didn't make a single arrest that night, but they could have. They chose to focus on public safety. They let the petty drinking in the street and other harmless stuff go that night. But they did take care of people that were obviously too drunk and needed a cab home. When people got up on cars they asked them to get down (and everyone complied), then sent them on their way. Same was apparently true on the day of the parade. I didn't go, but I can assure you it was a logistical nightmare here. From the people I know who went though, they said that the police were mostly focused on making sure kids that had been separated from their parents were taken care of. Nothing wrong with calling out potential issues in policing (as has been done in this thread), but when a group handles a stressful situation extremely well, that's worth recognizing too.

The interesting thing that Bill Maher has mentioned a few times is that ISIS has a fighting force of some 25k, where the "moderate" Sunni Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, etc) combined have around 5 million men in arms. They could crush ISIS without our interference (maybe logistical/targeting assistance) and yet they don't. Even Turkey could annihilate ISIS if they chose to. They're all waiting for the US to do their dirty work for them.

It's a regional problem that the region hasn't done jack shit with (except the Kurds...who don't even have a state of their own). Yes, we had a major hand in creating the problem by invading Iraq and leaving a power vacuum in place (this is why I believe that the cost of peace must always be part of the calculation of the cost of war). Now you have all of these competing forces in Iraq trying to outdo each other to gain the most power, and ISIS is now at the top. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that a good portion of ISIS fighters used to be in the Iraqi Army, especially the Republican Guard.

What happened in Paris is what happens when you are associated with the world's policeman/bully (depending on one's point of view). Additionally, France has the issue where they had Algeria as a former colony (and for a time, Algeria was considered a part of France until the bloody Algerian Independence War), with Syria & Lebanon as former "Mandates" under the League of Nations. So you have people who are not happy with the colonial history, but who probably also speak the language of the former colonial power.

You have a region that has been the source of ethnic, religious, and national conflicts off and on for nearly fourteen centuries, and yet is important to us strategically for one reason and one only: oil.

The sooner we get off our asses and get the oil companies off the government teat (and I'm speaking for the West in general and the US in particular) and actually invest in alternative energy, the sooner we can stop worrying about al Qaeda or ISIS or whatever other groups emerge. Because we feel the need to continue meddling and supporting "our friends" who happen to not be friends of ours (and especially not the people whom they "govern") except for ensuring the flow of oil continues, these groups are going to feel the need to strike back at those whom they deem their oppressors.

Has anybody else seen pictures of the Syrian refugees? All the guys are brown with black beards. They all have that malevolent look in their eye that says, "I'm only here to sever the head of the serpent."

This was a horrific attack.  My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, especially our own LB State student who lost her life to the cowards.

But, most of my thoughts return to how will we combat this evil?  These type of attacks have already been attempted here in America, but have been mostly interrupted.  We do very well investigating, preventing, and responding to these types of attacks, in spite of our administration down-playing their strength.  We should expect more attempts like this at home.

The plan to receive Syrian refugees is so scary, it's laughable.  Many experts have already spoken-out against it, saying it would be impossible to screen everybody who arrives.

There are ISIS fighters embedded among the refugees. Who knows how many. Two of them were among the killers who massacred over a hundred innocent people last night. Have you not been following the news?? ISIS has said on numerous occasions they're going to come here and fight us on our own land.

I'm okay with it as long as they park the refugees right on the White House lawn so the politicians can get a good feel for what the repercussions of some of their decisions are.

In all seriousness though I agree.  Let them in and we're going to see some of the same issues Europe is seeing.  It's always great when our elected officials can take care of another countries citizens when we can't even take care of our own homeless, veterans, mentally ill and the list goes on.
