Watched aome documentary about unemployed people in long island on hbo. Kind of hit home, reinforces the point of saving money.
Years ago i heard someone say most americans are 2 months away from homelessness, as in if you lost your income youd be out of luck on rent in 2 months. Not sure how accurate that is but it always stuck with me. So i save as much as i can

Anybody else watch/love "Serenity"/"Firefly"?!  Nathan Fillion is hilarious!  He's also great in "Castle" on ABC, and "Slither".  He was also the wrong Pvt. Ryan from Minnesota in "Saving Private Ryan...

I just watched "The Cabin in the Woods" on megashare.info the other day.  It's from Joss Whedon (who is the creator of Serenity), and was pretty good.  Very entertaining spin on the kids in peril in the woods movie.  Lots of dark humor in it as well.

I know we're not going to have an AW.com Fanfest this year -- and I applaud and thank the AW.com folks for making that announcement early on -- they certainly deserve a rest from organizing what had/ has become a huge event.

Who is all going to ST this year?

I will be at the Halos game in Tempe (vs. Mariners) on Tuesday, March 15 and on Friday, March 18 at Surprise Stadium (Angels at KC Royals).  other games as well . but those two are the Halos games I'll be seeing.

looking forward to seeing Simmons at SS. He's going to prevent a fair number of runs this season. Pitchers will be liking that.

Who's at second base? that'll be interesting to watch this ST.

I would love to say there should be no background checks in support of 2A, but the reality is that background checks do prohibit some folks from purchasing guns that should not have them.

I would actually be in favor of stronger background checks, if this administration would stop taking away our "big, scary" guns.  I'm very much in favor of concealed carry, and ending these gun-free (victim-full) zones.  It would also help if we could start charging for gun-enhancements and actually getting longer sentences.

You are your own first line of defense.

Sorry this happened to you, Hollywood...

But, the fact is that Irvine Cops suck for the most part.  I base this on my own professional and personal experience.  I'm sure there are some great Cops that work for the by-the-book robot factory down there, but I've learned of a lot of bad experiences with them.
A friend of mine left two of our Departments' best jobs, to lateral there a few years ago.  He was back within two months, with lots of horror stories.  He lost a lot of seniority coming back, but kept his sanity.

I personally got rung-up for almost two weeks suspension after a minor run-in with IPD at a Buffett show a few years ago...  It stemmed from something so minor, I wouldn't have even cited a regular citizen for it (not to mention another Officer).  Two of these four IPD Cops were former friends who had lateralled there (and a diminutive Sgt. Wyatt and a rookie).  This Sgt. basically pushed an issue that wasn't there, in order to prove to all of us present that he was the boss.  ALL four came into my hearing, and flat-out lied about what had happened.  I got my suspension reduced, in spite of MY OWN Deputy Chief trying to make himself look good to IPD.

The best advice for encounters with Police has already been mentioned previously: Follow the Officers' directions during the incident, and fight your battle in court.  I would strongly recommend videotaping every encounter.  If you can't do that, at least turn-on your cellphone's audio-recorder.  Most encounters go smoothly, but I sure wish I had some electronic evidence for mine.

Not to go all captain obvious here, but I'd rather comply and be released and then pursue legal options instead of being cuffed and taken to the station, as I'm sure all of us would.
    But yeah, it's a no-win all around.

Speaking respectfully, bullshit. Complying just fed that cop's ego. Of course, if he hadn't complied he would have been much worse off. It's a no-win situation. Abuse of power, plain and simple.

LB, can you offer some insight here? I know you've been shit on in this thread, but should Hollyw00d have been treated like that? His person and car searched? Should he have requested the officer's sergeant?

i'm wondering why the cop believed he had probably cause to search you or your car. had you been smoking or drinking?

you did the right thing by complying. i wonder what your legal options are and if they would be worth pursuing.

The other night, I went to a 7-11 near a motel in Irvine. There's some construction going on in the parking lot, so I parked near the motel and walked to the 7-11. It was about 8pm.
As I walk up, there's about 4 Irvine cops in front of the store and they're talking to some woman. I go in, buy a coke and some cheese, and walk out. I go back to my car, and a cop pulls up, blocking me from leaving.
He gets out, asks me questions, and tells me people use motels for crimes. I tell him in parked here because of the construction, and i went to 7-11. I show him the stuff I bought. He proceeded to search me personally. I comply. He asks me why I'm there. Told him again, 7-11.
He asks to search my entire car. I decline, telling him he's harrassing me and wasting my time and I want to leave. I tell him I have cooperated and i have the right to not have my car searched. He says he has probable cause. I tell him he doesn't.
He searches my entire car. Finds NOTHING. I'm furious.

Sorry NY daily news, but my thoughts and prayers are with the victims.  It's heartbreaking to read about how these families are torn-apart.

isis is here in America.  They are not roaming around in squads, wearing their black pi's (yet), but their sympathizers/soldiers are here.  They are actively planning Islamic terror attacks as we speak in the name of islam's goal to assimilate the world.

It is now established that the San Berdo attack was perpetrated on behalf of Islamic terror.  It's silly, childish, and frankly dangerous that the decided terrorists family attorneys, media, and our own potus continue to deny this fact.  I believe it will eventually come-out that these two "martyrs" had plans to hit more soft-targets, but were interrupted.

    These attacks will continue (and get worse), because they use our freedoms against us.  We have a defense though;
-THE most important defense is, "If you see something, say something."  I understand if you're uncomfortable carrying a gun to defend yourself, family, and others against this threat.  But, if you don't report suspicious activity and be a good witness to sound an alarm, you are guilty of in-action.
-The knowledge of the possibility of armed-citizens would drastically-reduce incidents.  They chose their target carefully, knowing it was full of un-armed/protected victims.

We know that these and other wanna-be jihadis, came into this Country through immigration.  Our systems and policies will NEVER keep all of those who wish to harm us out of the Country.  Gun control will NEVER keep weapons out of the hands of those nut-jobs who only want to kill us.  With that said, I believe we need to stall this practice of allowing Syrian (and other refugees) into the Country at this time.  I don't claim that they're all terrorists and not victims, but if you watch video of them entering European Countries, you'll see they tend to leave a trail of destruction while imposing themselves on the welcoming Countries.

My thanks and props to all of the First-Responders and investigators, who jumped-into action and ended this threat.  Sorry we couldn't get there in time to assist while it was still "active."
It makes me laugh that libs and the "blm" people can paint all Cops as dirty-murderers of minorities, yet can't admit their own guilt and criminality seriously contributes to even the worst-looking cases of brutality.
