papawealey reacted to Ohtaniland in Should Scoscia be let go ??
Come on TD, he's making $5M per year and shows no signs of really getting upset or concern about anything. He's scuffling, he's working on things, he threw really well but missed a few spots, we just need to tweak some things, he's fine, he's healthy but he needs a day to clear his head.
The best one is when he tried to convince the fans that it was ok for Josh Hamilton to be rehabbing in Houston rather than with the team of doctors in Arizona because he would be doing the same rehabbing in Houston.
Hey he's just jolly ole Mike Scioscia no matter what. He's a good guy that doesn't want to rattle the cage. HOF no matter how we play on the field.

papawealey reacted to Angelsjunky in I'm going negative....
My point is that we have unrealistic expectations based upon a very good run from 2002-09, which neither fits the history of the franchise nor proved to be sustainable. For a bit there it seemed the Angels were moving into the category of "premier franchise," but it wasn't to be. They're a second tier franchise, and perhaps not even that.
During the Reagins years it was "one good tweak and we're back to 04-09." During Dipoto it was "one (more) big splash and we're back to 04-09." Now it is "a few savvy moves by Eppler, and maybe we can capture lightning in a bottle like 02, but otherwise it is back to 04-09 before the Trout Window closes."
What seems to become more and more clear with each passing year is that this organization is thoroughly fucked, from top to bottom. It is just a crappy organization. Now there are tiny glimmers of hope, but we've been saying that for years.
That negativity is partly fueled by the Richards news, I must admit. Overall I think Eppler seems to be taking the right approach, with a focus on long-term improvement. The best news is that they're no longer selling the future to patch a sinking ship, like they did from 2010-15. The bad news is that you don't go from being a crappy organization to a great one in a just a year or two. It will take time.

Good thread. Calhoun is a player's player: shows up to play every night, delivers solid results, and gives it his all.

Whew, that was close. Took some lousy pitching and untimely hitting to eke out another loss..
Snuff that halo out!

It's really not even worth getting worked up over anymore. Scioscia is a bad manager at this point, Arte is a bad owner, Pujols is a bad player, etc.
I said this before the season but I still think it's true: This is finally the season where everything is blowing up in Arte's face. The lack of minor league depth/foreign spending is glaring, Ridiculous amount of money invested in basically no production from Wilson/Hamilton/Pujols, attendence is going to plummet, etc. They've been able to piece their way to respectable results the last few years (largely due to Trout but still) and that was fine while it lasted. But we're now in a position where we'd be a 105 loss team without Trout instead of a 90 loss team without him.
Bottom line, it's a pretty ugly situation. They're going to need a couple really strong drafts, some good FA signings/trades, and they're going to need to hit big time on an international player at some point to turn this thing around while Trout is still under contract. They also need to get rid of Scioscia sometime in the next 2-3 years. It's time.
I'm going to enjoy watching Trout, Calhoun, (and Heaney and Richards if they come back). But the rest of the team is old, boring, and not productive

Is it possible anyone here doesn't remember his titanic sack-clearing double in the 2002 WS?
Great to see GA recognized.

Here's an idea, stop tweeting that you're at the game, put down the phone and actually watch the freakin' game. That would cut down on fan injuries by 90%.

Does anyone honestly think Cespedes will be a great player into his 30's? The guy posts an Erick Aybar esque OBP. Pretty much all of his game derives on power and athleticism. He takes very aggressive swings constantly and has been doing it for years. Oh yeah and he has a weird obsession with playing golf every day before a game, and he refuses to quit or listen to anyone saying otherwise.

papawealey reacted to Docwaukee in Mariners looking to trade Mark Trumbo
by the sheer fact that he can stand in the OF.
I think Cron is a better all around hitter because of his ability to make contact. I don't think he's done progressing yet so there is some upside there. Trumbo is what he is.

He's 32. He's enigmatic. He's greedy. There's every possibility his arm is about to fall off.
All hallmarks of a terrible free agency signing.
Let the Dodgers clamor and plead for him.

papawealey reacted to Brian Ilten in Mike Scioscia plans to manage Los Angeles Angels next season.
If Scioscia is allowed to manage again next year, Arte is just going to have to pony up to buy more tickets at the end of the year so he can hit the 3M mark.
Scioscia is the single reason that I have tanken a step back from caring about the Angels. As long as he is there, I, and a lot of other fans, will continue to take a step back.
The Angels front office is a joke.

papawealey reacted to floplag in Season has left me bitter...
Not gonna lie, this is one of those seasons that makes you want to just find another team to watch. Been watching this team for 40 years now, and i don't recall a stretch of years that have left me less happy about being a fan of the club. So much promise, so much potential, and in the end even with a solid stretch run we are left unfulfilled, under achieving, and basically looking like a monkey f#@$king a football. I do not get how it went so bad so fast, i truly don't, it just makes no sense. So many bad moves made by so many people in so many areas.
I think i liked this club better when we acting like middle market, a least then we knew what we were, these last few years of trying to be large market large payroll behemoths have resulted in this? We talk a big game but we don't seem to want to back it up. Its inexcusable to me that the club stepped up to make some big dollar signings then when we got close to the luxury tax suddenly got penny wise. As much as any under achieving player i feel the front office failed at least as bad in recent years. ...and i wont even talk about the manager, its so far past tie for a change here.
In the immortal words of Jack Nicholson's Joker, This club needs an enema.
I'll never give up being a fan of this club but right now its very hard to have any hope for the next few seasons unless Arte finds his wallet in a major way and we get a GM with a brain that can tell Sven where to get off.
