Murphy is batting .318 against LH pitchers this year and has had some clutch hits for us down the stretch. He's also hitting .381 vs Oakland.

 

Victorino is batting .230 against left-handers, but is a nice guy.

I personally prefer Murphy even against LH pitching but his sample size against lefties is very small.

The only metric you could find that would favor Victorino over Murphy is percentage Hawaiian. And veteran-ness.

Yeah that's really not how it works.

I think Victorino has had his shot and blown it, while playing Murphy in the field is a marginal enough thing as it is against RHP. If it were up to me I'd be playing Cowgill.

I agree with Cowgill and Robertson over Victorino. Victorino is only getting starts based on his past experience and reputation, not on his performance this season.

Like I said in another thread...this "platoon no matter what when it's a vet" philosophy should be stressed throughout the minor league system, so that the kids coming up wont be disappointed by being benched when it happens..
