I'm happy he was posted and that the Angels have a chance to obtain a guy with upside at a position of need..   I'm fully cognizant of the Dodgers interest, the Yankees need to add pitching, and the possibility the Rangers are looking to pull off a stealth move.  Thing is, I'm perfectly okay with the idea that they turn around and get a Maholm, Capuano, or Baker, and a RP scenario.  Tanaka may be the ideal but he's not the only option and ultimately they have to think long term, IMO.
 
My hope for the Angels this year is that they find a way to get themselves out of the corner they have painted themselves into.  If they do nothing other than play well but fall short of two better teams while extending Trout at some point and finding a couple pitchers to build around along I'd consider it a very successful season.  I want to see progress, the playoffs would be great but not a necessity.  I don't care if 2009 was a long time ago, I don't wan't to contend for one year and then fall back into oblivion, I want them to go on another run like the one we saw last decade.  The AL West isn't going to get any easier and the Angels need to plan short and long term.
 
I've been critical of Dipoto, I wonder who the real JD is, the guy who talks a good game or the guy that chases guys like Marmol.  But, I still hope that he turns out to be the guy that can usher in a new golden age, one where the Angels join the Red Sox, Rays, Rangers, and others as statistically inclined organizations.

I am not clear about the new problems because the season has not yet started.  Dipoto certainly addressed last season's problems but it remains to be seen whether the changes will work.  Hindsight is always the most accurate technique in identifying the best possible alternatives.
 
Let's give him a chance....and if it doesn't work this season, Scioscia can eat him.

Why don't we all agree that we have no clue how we're going to finish, but like the good old days we're optimistic and fans regardless, cheering on the Halos for every 162 games during the season?

Sounds like the way many people get ahead in business.  Very few professions consistently promote or hire based exclusively on merit, achievement and leadership skills.  I am the exception and have earned every promotion and bonus.  The fact that my parents own the business is simply an interesting side note and has no bearing on this discussion.

I had a difficult time watching Hamilton consistently swing and miss at off-speed breaking balls 3 feet off the plate while being paid to be a middle of the order bat.  I am not looking forward to 4 more years of that.  I guess I prefer to watch the "decline" of Pujols than the "prime" of Hamilton.  If he is still playing, I think Pujols in year 10 will have a better year than Hamilton did in year 1 in their respective contracts.
 
I know I may be the only one thinking this way.  I enjoy living in my own little world.  Everyone knows my name.

This is a trade that does not seem to be time sensitive.  This trade could have happened later in the offseason after Dipoto addressed our pitching needs.  I realize there were three players at third base, bit not one of them served up walk off homers or blew big leads.
