I thought he hurt himself on a swing and miss late in the game. He grimaced but stayed in. I was hoping it wasn’t the oblique again when he swung. Tight back sounds better.

Yeah, I noticed that as well, first thing I thought of was the oblique might be the cause.  He brings a lot of fight to this team, hope he gets over this okay.  Getting a win tonight just got a little tougher.

  2. I think Silseth gets another shot in there somewhere, probably the day game.  If they have to, I wouldn't rule out starting Barria either.  I like him better as a starter then a high leverage reliever, unless it is just in a mop up role where we are getting blasted.  It's going to be another brutal road trip I'm afraid.  A winning record on that trip would be wonderful.

I've had it with Rendon. He can go to a place that's hotter than Bixby Knolls. Total waste.

Why?  Because you want to see him play injured, and not have a chance to contribute?  When a player is injured I've seen far too many times where they hide the injury and hurt the team far more trying to play.  The latest example would be Bachman, he pitched with an undisclosed injury just before the break, and was not effective, now he is on the IL.

Arte would not go down in history as the guy who traded Ohtani, if he does. He'll go down in history as a guy that was such an incompetent owner that despite having two of the greatest players in the history of the game on the team at the same time, he could put an organization together capable of fielding even a .500 ballclub let alone a playoff team.

And that would be a very unfair assessment.  Arte has owned the team for 20 years, and he had some success early in terms of team performance.  Yes things haven't always gone well, but his intentions were good, he's done a lot to try to develop and support the various teams he has had here, support the community, and the fans.  In many ways, Autry also made plenty of mistakes as well along with the good.  So many things have to go exactly right to push an organization to the top and keep it there.  Spending gobs of money, and not interfering with operations doesn't always do it either.  If it did, ownership would be an easier job, basically just get as wealthy as you can and spend it all on your team.  Right now the disappointment of the current season and situation with Ohtani hurts.  But I often think that's the most pessimistic way to look at it, kind of buried in all of that is the good things that have happened and are happening as well.  It's easy to dwell on the bad stuff, harder to cherish the good things that have happened, or are occurring now.  So anyway, I think it's kind of silly to torch Arte for all the bad, and none of the good.  In the weekly podcast Victor Rojas touched on the this subject near the end, and I thought what he had to say was on point about Arte.

  5. I think our managers have been rather mediocre at best since Scioscia left.  When you think you have a contending team, you hire some like Texas did this year getting Bruce Bochy.  Nevin is a little too inexperienced for me, same for Ausmus even more so.  Experienced managers can clash with the current trend which is the front office intervening with day to day player management however.  Perry and Joe Madden didn't mix well, but Madden wasn't Perry's choice from the get go.  My question is Nevin learning from his mistakes, and will he improve as time goes on.

I think Ohtani ends up in Seattle next season. Just a hunch but Dodgers have winning tradition in playoffs every year. Seattle has strong rotation and with addition of Ohtani plus his bat in lineup would be huge. I will get crap from everyone on here but just stating my opinion on what I think will happen.

I don't think he will end up in Seattle.  DiPoto was interested when the Angels signed him.  I think he saw it as a chance to get controlled years from him cheaply, then true to his form he could absolutely flip him for a big haul if he performed early on.  I don't think he wants to pay half a billion plus for him now, it takes away his flexibility for constantly moving players in and out of his organization.  I would be far more concerned about the Dodgers getting him.

You really think it's smart to play through injuries, make them worse, and be lost for the season.  Injuries are a big part of this sport, I'd rather he be upfront about what is hindering his performance than become totally useless.  Hiding injuries serves no real purpose.

  8. Consistency is certainly not a hallmark of this team so far.  Just when you think they might make a move there is a letdown.  I've seen most of the games so far, and for me the most intriguing thing is some of the young talent, like Neto, O'Hoppe, Silseth, and Moniak.  Generally the pitching has been a letdown with not much signs of a turnaround with most all of the starters.  Even Ohtani's last three starts are somewhat marred by mistakes.  I expected more from Ohtani and Trout offensively, maybe they will get hot yet, maybe not.  They are just hanging around the fringes of a playoff spot for the moment.  I would love to hear what Minasian really thinks right now about their performance, and what his longer range plans really are.  Being at .500 for most of April and May isn't always a bad thing if you are making the most of learning about what you have, and how best to utilize it, or dumping what consistently does not work.  However, the more the team has to dip into a thin farm system, the more likely the team moves away from potentially contending.  Trades and waiver pickups can help a little, but they can also be a big negative too.

You’ve missed how good the bullpen has been. Every team in the division is flawed but we only focus on the Angels flaws.

I agree, the bullpen has been good after a short sluggish start.  The defense is perplexing, they make some really great plays, and have had quite a few really disappointing ones.  They have to find a way to have the starters go deeper into games without falling apart.

I have no idea what his issue is, but the hush hush nature of it makes me wonder if it's something they don't want getting out...

Catching aside, it could be something medically very serious to him or a close family member.  I hope not, Stassi is a good person and I wish him the best.
