Probably after Bachman because I think there’s a much better chance Bachman will be a starter than Joyce, although they both could end up as relievers. I don’t know anything about Guzman which is why he isn’t on my list.

There is also Vera and Paris, couple of more shortstops, they seem like light hitters.  Might be trade bait.  I hope we get to see some of these guys in September, just for a look anyway.

  2. Everything got screwed up in the ninth inning, shit happens, no one performs perfectly.  Yeah Stassi is having a bad year, and I think he feels like shit for it.  He took the blame after the game last night, I heard his comments.  It wasn't only Stassi though, Loup fell down trying to cover home, Walsh had to try to cover first base, then realized things were not going well at home and tried to back it up, but too late.  Also before those plays Santana walked on 3 balls because the home plate umpire screwed up and lost count, where was Nevin to protest that mistake.  Or why didn't Loup or Stassi protest the home plate umpire's mistake.  And why the hell was Loup even still in the game at that point.  You can't make this much shit up.  At this point in a lost year, better to just laugh about the whole affair.  When the time is appropriate, changes will happen.  As usual, I am sure I will watch the whole circus again tonight, for some sick reason I still enjoy it.

My first instinct reading this was that it's because he's Asian, and everything is made in China. And I nodded my head and said "yeah, probably"

Then I realized that's not what you meant.

My first instinct is that since he was born in Hawaii, it has nothing to do with China, so maybe he doesn't make those plays, lol!....so confusing.

I doubt they're going to pull O'Hoppe away from a playoff-bound team with the arms he's working with there just to get a look in meaningless September games with a staff that will change a good bit over the winter.

He does need to be added to the 40-man this winter though to protect from R5, so there's a chance.

Protecting him on the 40 man roster this off season won't be hard, I have a feeling there will be plenty of vacancies created by dismissals.

I don't put it squarely on the coaches, but I'm concerned what happened with Walsh.

I think he has the Cody Bellinger disease.  Take a look at Cody's numbers some time, from hitting 47 home runs and a .305 batting average in 2019, he now is a .200 batting average player with occasional home runs similar to Walsh.  It was pretty dramatic for him, and maybe for Walsh as well.  I think it could very well just come down to confidence that you can produce at a high level for long periods.

  6. For me I don't have anywhere near the information needed to judge if it's a coaching or player problem.  My feeling is it is mostly on the players to perform better.  I also think that it is the coaches who will eventually take the blame, they are much easier to ditch and replace than players.  Same can be said for managers.

I see no reason that Rengifo, Fletcher, and Manganese Sierra can't maintain this level of performance for years to come

I can because this game gets radically harder as the years go by, and the players age and become more vulnerable to injury.  There are so many ways to identify your weaknesses, and exploit them.  It seems to me that ages 24-31 are the golden years for most.  Yes, there are younger and older outliers, but not a lot of them.  Rengifo is approaching his prime, Fletcher has peaked but still has some life in him, Sierra is kind of different as he is like a Dee Gordon type (probably not as great).  That's why I don't worry about Adel, he is just beginning his golden period and improving still.  Yes, you do need strong veterans to lead like Trout and Rendon, but health with them is of utmost importance.

Minasian deadline trades are trending toward being good.  The bullpen got reshuffled due to injury, and especially relief pitchers got a chance and they are responding.  Davidson may have chance as a 4th or fifth starter.  Moniac is a wild card, but he is similar in age to Adel, and he might be a usable player with regular playing time.  Dugger may have a year or two left in him.  I predict Duffy, Gosselin, Rojas, Velasquez, Suzuki, Chavez, Bradley, Diaz, Rosenberg, and maybe more (Sierra, Canning, Junk, maybe Walsh) won't be back on the 40 man roster.

A lot hinges on Ohtani, and what he wants to do about his future.

The Angels do this every year. Go on a meaningless hot streak in August/September that causes them to drop in the draft rankings and convince Perry and co. that only minor changes are needed in the off-season.

I don't think it happens every year.  Actually out of all the 30 MLB teams the Angels have the 13th best wining percentage  (.499) of all time.  That kind of describes the overall franchise for me over time, we sometimes are good (not great), and then sometimes poor (not the worst).  It sucks to be average.  And I think there will be plenty of changes made this off season.  Minasian will have plenty pressure to do so, if for no other reason than he has to look like he is taking proactive measures.  I think he will feel the heat from a reactive Arte.

So can we put the notion that “clubhouse chemistry promotes winning” to bed?

Perry talked our ears off about it, and the Angels are still losing despite having “pretty good” clubhouse chemistry.

He should focus more on acquiring/signing good players, not son-in-laws.

I don't believe that at all.  Winning teams generally have great clubhouse chemistry, but they also have to have talent.  The Angels are 6-3 in the last nine games without much talent available on the active roster right now.  So would you rather have a bunch of pricks sort of like the some of the Houston teams when they were cheating and winning, or players who you respect are doing the best with the talent they have?  I like the personalities of the players we have, but we need to find more like them that have talent to help the team win.
