The Braves have eight qualifying batters, and a ninth with 434 PA. Meanwhile they only have 14 batters with at least 50 PA -- meaning, they're having to use very few scrubs to fill in plate appearances. Of those 14 batters, only one has negative WAR (-0.7).
The Angels have three qualifying batters and 26 batters with at least 50 PA. Of those 26, seven have negative WAR (-3.3 total).
The Angels haven't had more than four qualifying batters since 2014, their last playoff appearance when they had six. To get to eight qualifiers you have to go back to 2012.

I don't know if I'd go that far. I would say that you shouldn't just classify all "analytics" guys as the same. Some are better than others, even if they are all "analytics" guys.
My sense is that the Angels weren't relying too much or too little on "analytics," but maybe that the particular analytics they were using weren't the best for the particular players/coaches they had.

His physical breakdown makes it a tricky offseason of free-agency for Ohtani. He probably won't get $600 million or more over a decade. A second elbow reconstruction and a fully lost season of pitching turns him into a premium DH and little more for at least one season. In his 30s, there is no guarantee he'll ever be as effective as a pitcher as he was pre-injury. 
I also wonder how much trust he has in the Angels' medical staff.
I wish Shohei well in his future endeavors, The locker clear-out seems pretty final from an Angels' standpoint.

They have autopsies every year, nothing changes.  It doesn’t sound like anyone has learned a thing.  Will they get lucky one year and have all their short term older signees put up decent years and compete like the Giants a couple years ago?  Maybe.  But much more likely not. No long term plan for sustainable success.  Just more insanity doing the same thing over and over and hoping for different results. 

Unless we hear otherwise, the logical assumption is that the team is not on the market.

I think he gives Perry one more year, and then fires him if it goes bad.
The question is whether Arte will hire his own guy as manager or if he’ll let Perry pick his own guy.
Arte likes to deflect blame away from him.
After 2018, Scioscia was gone.
After 2019, Ausmus was gone.
After 2020, Eppler was gone.
After 2021 and part of 2022, Maddon was gone.
 
So he’ll make Nevin the scapegoat and have Perry as his scapegoat if 2024 goes badly.

Since Nevin is gone, get rid of all the coaches as well.  Might as well start with a clean slate.  And dump the training staff, start over from scratch.  Above all please don't cheap out on anything Arte!  Don't get a rookie MLB manager, get someone with experience and who has a track record of success.

Nevin can’t be blamed for the Angels 2023.  The injuries were brutal.
But that doesn’t mean he automatically keeps his job for next year.  He doesn’t have the track record of success to enjoy that luxury.
It is perfectly fair to be on the hunt for an upgrade at manager, and if you find one you don’t hesitate.

I don't know a job that you can fail this badly for three years and expect to be back. Stoneman took over a team and won the World Series in year 2. So it can be done. 
The farm / scouting may have been better in the 90's but the team very much operated as a mid market under Autry and Disney...they didn't spend the way Arte has on payroll. 
What they need is a President of Baseball Ops, and a new GM, someone entrusted to run the entire operations department and keep Carpino and Kuhl out of the media, and keep Arte out of spending, etc. They need to redo the scouting departments, embrace technology and analytics (but keep out of in game decisions, the divide needs to be clear). They need to emulate the Dodgers front office and work to build the whole organization back into a consistent winner.

Makes activating him all the more pointless.  So he can occasionally pinch hit, then?  Who needs that on this team at this point in the season?
