Might need to start ignoring Bauer news the same way I'm ignoring Trump news. Hopefully get a decision on Bauer by Jan 20 though

This isn’t a knock on anyone.  But I always laugh when I read “if we get an ace and another strong SP” our rotation will be really good. Like what team will not have a good rotation if you magically add both a #1 and #2-3 to their current rotation?!? That’s one HORRIBLE rotation/team if you added that and their rotation still sucked.

We kind of need Upton not to suck this year.

Angels in 2030 reacted to Angel Oracle in Trade Adell (+ club control through 2026) for Snell (3 years, $42M left on contract) straight up?
Let this sink in.  Aside from 2018, Snell has averaged just under 5 innings a start.
Is that because of a) pitch counts, b) TB being very conservative with starting pitching innings, or c) endurance concerns?

Bauer is @Angels 1961 and the only way he signs with the Angels is if they commit to Ohtani playing RF.

Some of you are funny.  Businesses change their names for lots of reasons all pointing to one fundamental reality....they want make more money.
I don't know what the rationale was for such a major change, but I am aware of how important an identity is to many groups.  I see the importance of group identity in this thread with some of the comments.  I think Cleveland is simply trying to navigate through some very treacherous waters where not changing is just as detrimental  as changing.

I'd like to see them go more politically incorrect if that's possible, while sticking with the native theme. Not sure how though.

This makes no sense.  Unless it’s an excuse to use as rebranding and merchandise sales.

    i'm sorry, but fuck that.
you'd give up marsh, c.rod, koch, and one of jackson or paris for either one of those guys?
that's a brutal trade for the angels.

I’d do Marsh, C-Rod, Kochanowicz and Jackson/Paris for Snell or Gray if it meant hanging onto Adell.
Hang onto Adell at all costs!

I'm not sure I agree. We have so few pitchers with high upside in our system. Trading one of them would really hurt.
That said, if we don't get Bauer, I fully expect Minasian to get Snell or Gray, whatever the cost.

I’d give up Adell for Snell, but I wouldn’t throw in one of our top pitching prospects. We are so short on pitching prospects that we can’t afford to part with any of our top guys.

I feel like the pumping of the Angels by Bauer does not bode well. He seems like he wants to surprise and build Some drama/interest.  Just a guess/ feel

Obviously that's cool to hear, but I will say, despite those rave reviews, the White Sox opted to mainly start Grandal at catcher, and in 2 of their 3 playoff games, started Grandal as well, too.
Grandal is obviously a good catcher, but notably, the Dodgers sat him in favor of Austin Barnes during some of their playoff runs.  So while McCann gets praise, I wonder how great he is behind the plate.  If he were really amazing, I would have to imagine the White Sox would have opted to have used him for all 3 games.

Right, and It think this is a very key consideration.
A lot of people point out that Bauer "only costs money," and that we can afford him because Pujols is coming off the payroll after this year and Upton the year thereafter.  While true, there are other upcoming costs beyond that, as Ohtani goes deeper into arbitration, Fletcher starts arbitration next year, same with Canning, etc.  Year 1 generally isn't too expensive, but the better they perform, the higher the costs, etc.
So while Pujols and Upton will be off the payroll in 2 years, we will also see significant costs associated with the others in terms of arbitration.  In this regard, trading for Snell, Gray, Darvish, etc is more appealing in that they all have 3 years remaining, not the 5-6 that Bauer will likely command, and both Gray and Snell are considerably more cost-effective.
Minasian may ultimately feel the best path in terms of balancing payroll and prospect cost is to deal for one of Snell/Gray, who have 3 years and 30-40mil remaining, and trading some prospects who he may not feel as high on as Eppler did, than spending 6/150+ on Bauer.  This is likely a strong consideration, since we have mega contract for Trout + Rendon already, as well as projected arbitration costs.

Bauer (or whatever big FA) isn’t going to live in Anaheim.  It’ll be Newport Beach, CDM, etc.  The very best of those areas too.  Life doesn’t get much better than that.
