I figured it out.
Bauer admires this guy, and wants to be like him.   Decision making sucks.

If we waste farm assets on 2yrs of the defensively mediocre Contreras, I'm gonna be pissed.

Quintana is a guy i only want if he's the 2nd guy following Bauer or some traded for TOTR guy.  Next to Bauer he makes sense since we won't have much funds and Q would be an inexpensive option on a short (1-2 type year) deal.  A guy that we can take a risk on for upside with the workhorse top guy Bauer.  
But if were talking about Quintana as the 2nd guy along with some other middle of the rotation guy -- sorry, i'm not satisfied with that at all (facepalm).  We've seen enough of that year after year after year.....

I've seen people here prop this guy up as being legit.... This take right here pretty much sums up this fraud. Dude is an Astros fan pushing a narrative everyone knows is false.  Stop buying into this POS and his bullshit, he's spouted off so many things about how MLB teams operate that are factually incorrect its not funny, but now he's just flat out making shit up.

Actually Beatles, you have it backwards.  Arte's problem is trying too hard to win it all -- going for it with big contracts and guys at the end (or past) their prime.  He's spent TOO much money on the team on the field -- not enough within the organization (scouts, development team, etc.) and building said organization from the buttom up with a long-term view.  You try to jump ahead to the line and you usually screw yourself when all's said & done.  I give him props for trying and wanting to win.  But it's not the best path LT.

I’m not upset about this as of right now, but if Odorizzi/Bauer/Tanaka/Paxton sign elsewhere and Gray/Musgrove/etc get traded elsewhere or stay put and we end up with flyers like Quintana and Happ, then yeah I’ll be pissed we didn’t just bite the bullet and give Sugano his $13M AAV that it would’ve taken to get him to sign here

Well, at least it was something to think about the last few days.  At least hockey starts in a week.
