Second Base got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in Uses of the term Dipoto
Just so I think we're all clear on the versatility and usefulness of this word.
Dipoto - 1. To screw something up.  2. To lay waste to something.  3. To hoodwink or fool.  4. To trade needlessly, either not improving or actively being worse off after a trade. 5. A collegiate pitcher with low upside, but a high floor.  Very likely to become a AA/AAA starter.
    Used in a sentence....
    1. Wow, they really Dipoto'd the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes.  Now Seattle has no prospects, a ton of international money that needs to be spent, and no free agent international prospects to spend it on.
    2. Since being hired as the GM of the Mariners, Jerry has Dipoto'd their farm system.
    3. "Don't worry guys, I'll Dipoto the media.  they'll love it without realizing how bad this is."
    4. I got bored sitting in my office with nothing to do, so I Dipoto'd and traded our third string catcher for a 32 year old AA reliever.
    5. Dipoto picks shouldn't be in the first round.  More like the 26th.
Alright, so now that you know, feel free to deploy this term to maximum efficiency.

I said it in another thread, or in a PM, can't remember, but at the time I considered JMF the best bat in the minor league system, and likely the 4th best bat on the Angels behind Trout, Upton and Ohtani (Simmons on the DL).  Now that Ohtani is on the DL, it looks to me like JMF is by default, the third best hitter on this team behind Trout and Upton.
He's better than Valbuena, Pujols, Marte, Maldonado, Kinsler, Cozart, and Calhoun/Young/Hermosillo.  Yet those are the guys getting playing time.
It's ridiculous the Angels wasted this much time in calling him up.

it's weird to say and I know I sound like a prospect homer, but he's probably 3rd or 4th best hitter on the team.
In fact, he's not even really a prospect at this point.  There just wasn't room for him on the major league roster but he's a major league hitter for sure.  I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

This sucks.  I was hoping to see Ohtani win Rookie of the Year, Trout win MVP, Richards win the Cy Young and either Maldonado or Simmons win the Platinum Glove.  Simmons is down, Ohtani is down, Richards is hit or miss.
Time to wrap Trout in bubble wrap.  If he gets hurt, I give up.

Second Base got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Angels trading for proven closer?
The Red Sox, Indians, Twins, Angels, Nats, Cards and D-Backs will all be in the market for relief help at the trade deadline.
If Britton, Hand and Herrera are the only three made available, then the price to acquire one might be extremely steep.
Granted, the Angels have one of the better farm systems in all if baseball right now, so they can afford to outbid those teams, but we've seen what happens when you Dipoto a farm. You have nothing left to trade from, your payroll skyrockets and you have no depth to absorb an injury.
But I do envision a scenario in which the Angels acquire a couple of arms at the deadline.

I say we let Hermosillo run with this for a little bit to see if he shows signs of improvement.  He's doing fine defensively and can definitely run.  Scioscia trusted him with the double steal.  I mean he's a 23 year old kid, I don't think we can just say after a week worth of playing time that he won't get it done.  What if we judged Trout but he same measure when he was first brought up.  Yeah, he's a 19 year old being comp'd with Mantle, but still....

The way the current system works, the 11th round pick is pretty much your best draft picks outside of the 4th round.  The team is much more free on what they can offer as a signing bonus, and many end up being compensated on par with a 4th or 5th round pick.  So the fact that the Angels drafted this kid is significant.  I'll offer my brief scouting report below the video.
    https://2080baseball.com/draft-prospect-video/connor-van-scoyoc/
Great frame, fastball sits 90-92.  great extension and for the most part, throws downhill and really take advantage of the height God gave him.  Definite room to grow, could end up adding velo. Fastball has natural tailing action in on a RHB.  Hides the ball well, but struggles staying on top of it.  He rushes his delivery for a fastball, as if his body is amping itself up for the necessary explosion.  Needs to fix that otherwise it'll be something batters can key on.
Love the arm speed on the change up and his command of the pitch.  Potential "plus offering".
His curve is inconsistent at best.  It flashes "plus" because of the sheer amount of break it has, but he doesn't really know when to release the pitch or exactly how much spin to put on it.  Thus, he can't throw it for a strike with any normality and if that's what it is, it isn't even game ready yet.
Slightly slower to the plate out of the stretch, but love the fluid mechanics.
There's a ton to work with here.  The Angels coaches will likely work on slowing down his wind up.  He already has excellent balance though.  Slowing down his wind up should keep hitters guessing as to pitch selection, but don't be surprised if he gets hit hard in Rookie Ball.  The curve needs a lot of work.  But if he's coachable, and successfully irons some of these little things out and continues to fill out and mature, the Angels could eventually have themselves a starter that throws 94-95 with a plus breaking ball and plus change up.  No way to accurately guess which way his career will go, but I feel the potential is there to be a solid #2/3 starter.

Rhoades has touched 98 this year.  When he was first drafted as a starter, fastball generally sat 92.  This year he's up at 95.

I know everyone else already gave their takes, so I'll just briefly offer mine as they probably don't offer anything we don't already know.
Jordyn Adams - Obviously a superior athlete. The swing itself looks loose and fitted to drive pitches to all fields, but I don't see the power in it. I don't like that we loaded up on another outfielder when the systems seems full of those already, but he never focused on baseball before. Maybe the experts are right, maybe this is a great pick. He's likely to get a lot better and judging by the dunk and the football highlight videos, he has more upside than pretty much everyone in the draft.
As soon as the Angels switch sports, they'll have the best football team by far with Adams, Hunter Jr., and Marsh at wide receiver and Hermosillo at RB. We'll put Trout at TE. Need a QB.
Jeremiah Jackson - I don't know a lot about him, only briefly read his name pre-draft. But there are two things he has in that video that you can't fake, size and power.
If the experts say they did good, then I'll buy it.

I feel like the farm building measure will give Eppler the opportunity to acquire someone like Brad Hand. It sucks because you know he'll probably cost them Brandon Marsh (and then some throw-ins like Gatto), but when you have Adell, Deveaux and Adams, you have plenty of upside outfielders to replace him.
